This is silly. On my Corruptor, I have T3 powers made for my Lore and Destiny slots, but I have yet to unlock the slots themselves.

Yeah, I figured that might. Course, that would entail finding a league that will do it at a time I am available.

Oi! "City of Heroes is now free forever?"

Why does it say my account name isn't available then?

...does that mean that I still have to buy it first?

No, it means someone else has your account name, most likely.

But it can't be—after a few good names I just started putting up random letters and nothing worked.

Typing in random letters is a good way to type in the same string of random letters used by a spammer account, so... yeah.

Well what's good then. :/ I can't use my handle, my name, any other names I can think of...

Nothing will work...

You might want to contact support, Keybreak, if literally nothing is working (even something like variations of your old handle? Numbers in place of letters or numbers afterward or whatever?).

...On another note, I've been hearing rumors about Issue 22 content.

Namely, that Dark Astoria is getting revamped as a level 50 zone with a focus on solo Incarnate content. As in, you will be able to obtain Incarnate loot without having to do trials.

Also Staff Melee will come out then and it will be awesome.

But hey, old zone revamps! That can only be a good thing.

[up] That's not really a rumour, considering they had a dev chat about it.

Before I22 we'll get:

  • Two new Trials (TPN Network, and the aptly named Mo M trial, featuring Mother Mayhem)
  • Titan Weapons

In I22 we'll get:

  • Stalker Revamp (basically, when you're not in hide, Assassin's Strike will be a slightly weaker but still fairly strong regular attack that has a chance to crit depending on how many hits you have done with other attacks)
  • Dark Control, Dark Assault and Dark Affinity (Which is Dark Miasma but with a few powers replaced so you can make a Dark/Dark controller without going control overload)
  • Staff Melee (going to have swap-ammo like "forms" you can switch between, +damage, +recharge were those I remember, there was one more)
  • Dark Astoria revamp (street sweeping in DA drops threads and gives IXP, missions too but finishing a story arc gives you components, etc. (but these are time-gated) Incarnate shifts apply in DA.
  • At least one trial as well (involving Diabolique and Mot, apparently)

EDIT: Source Thread

Welp. Thanks for the confirmation and the link! I called them rumors because I had only heard about them through unsourced forum posts elsewhere. Good to see all those official pictures of all the new loot and the new zone...and the new costume pieces...and the rewards...and the...

...ah fuck me. I think my VIP subscription is coming back sooner than I thought it would.

A question for those of you who may know...

The "side-by-side comparison" of Free vs. Premium vs. VIP on the official site lists free players as having access to eight archetypes. Is this correct? If so, which of the two base archetypes are missing for people who play free?

I ask because there's a possibility I might be able to bring one of my buddies at work to Paragon City on freebie power, and would like to be able to tell him what to expect.

Controllers and Masterminds are the ones missing, as I recall. Allegedly, this is because those archetypes are more complicated to play and have additional server-side overhead.

[up]I'll believe the additional server-side overhead part, but unless things have changed quite heavily since I was last playing, Dominators are far and away the most harrowing class to play due to being made of wet tissue paper and not really having any means of regaining health beyond normal regen. Compared to Controllers, the lack of room for error is notably more painful than having to let one specific enemy live to keep an anchor debuff rolling.

Exceptions from the above go to the Domis who stacked enough recharge reduction from IO sets to attain permadom, because they can just hold All The People, All The Time.

Huh. I don't know, Tinweasel; while I'll admit that my Dom experience is limited, I didn't find them quite as harrowing as all that. Maybe because I tend to play everything like a blaster; it's not 'controlled' until it's dead. *shrug* Fast, hard and aggressive seemed to work alright with my Mind/Psi Dom, anyways, heh...

Amen to that, chameleon! I have a Mind/Psi Dom too. Between Dominate, Mezmerize, and Levitate, most things can hardly attack me. Those things that have hold protection face my Levitate/Telekinetic Thrust/Mezmerize combo, usually keeping them slept until I've dealt with the other enemies first. Unless of course I am in Domination mode, in which case I just rip through everything.

Try sitting on a primary other than Mind Control for a bit. The difference between being able to sleep dudes in a solo context and being limited to making them stand in one place while they shoot at you is pretty large.

When you don't have a primary where almost every power stops attacks outright (I play Grav/Psi and love it, unless robots are involved), things get a lot more management intensive, and a single missed hold becomes a lot more hazardous to your health. Thank you, devs, for letting me slot accuracy - and curse you, devs, for making it a necessity.

Haha yeah, my first Dom was like Fire/Fire, and I hated it.

I made my original Mind/Ice Dom after playing a Mind/FF Controller for a while. Deleted that one, though, and remade the Controller as my current Mind/Psi Dom.

In other news, I made a Sonic/Kin Corruptor today, which is my latest stab in a series of attempts at playing a Sonic Attacks character, and is also my first Kinetics character. Level 8 now, plays well so far.

Dominators are quite sweet. They do good damage and have controls. Sure, in a team setting you're better off with a controller, but solo Dominators rock.

Actually, according to datamining the hardest class to play is the Blaster. They die roughly twice as often as the next-closest class.

Well, a blaster is a Glass Cannon - their only defense is for everything to be dead. Dying is a price you accept for the speed of killing.

But, damn it - ah well, I guess I can play on and off even if I'm not a VIP. But this is so much of what I've wanted for so long - DARK ASTORIA actually being used, YES! My stalker will work better, more fun powersets...

I just unsubscribed and all, since I knew I was going to be focusing on the two Skys for a bit and then SWTOR when that came out, but Co X really doesn't want to let me go, does it?

City of Heroes will never let you go tongue

I'd be curious as to when exactly that Datamining was done- I started blasting in i3, and, well... heh. That blaster must know every floor in the city by now. By taste. Blasters since IOs and Defiance 2.0 have become a lot sturdier. I rarely die on my main Energy/Energy blaster now; knockback is better mitigation than most people are willing to admit.

Oh yeah, Knockback can be pretty good defense...

When you're not clipping the enemies through walls.

But speaking of Knockback, I bound E on my aforementioned Corruptor to use the Shockwave power and say "FUS, RO DAH!" :P
