Oh yeah, not going to deny playing as Malk was really fun on my second play through, seeing all the little hints they dropped in the dialogue, neat foreshadowing and all,I think translating Malks to a medium like video games and not having them turn into a Fish Malks is really hard to avoid

I don't think anyone would disagree that the silliness was definitely fun but the Malk PC in Bloodlines 1 had dangerous levels of Fishmalk. I'm not a "stop having fun" guy but it definitely cheapened the Clan's narrative.

Essentially:

"Weird oracle that has funny moments" Totally fine.

"W A C K Y crazy person who argues with a stop sign" Not really fine.

Still, the devs have stated that they want to have better Malk presentation while not abandoning the humor, so this should hopefully be a moot point.

Not remotely as important as making sure the game is actually fun to play this time around.

I know that sounds obvious, but I've tried to play the original again a while ago and I honestly had forgotten how terrible the combat was. Incredibly unbalanced as well, I mean gameplay-wise there's little reason to go with anyone other than the blood wizards and use anything other than their "Morning After Party" spell, even if it is hilarious to make my character stand there looking like he's trying to remember if he turned the stove off while everyone around is literally puking their guts out.

And I swear to God, I don't think I ever played a more obnoxiously designed stealth-mechanic since the Bethesda Fallout games.

[up]To each their own, I always saw the Malkavian story as just a wacky mad romp after I'm done with the main plot, like watching the Abridged version of an anime.

BTW, what's a "fishmalk"?

Yeah that seems closer to the current idea of the Mals - tuned into the ACTUALS of reality but not able to convey it clearly.

man I'd love to find a group to do an actual table top of this.

In short, fishmalks is when you try to make vampire deadpool or harley queen.

It was obnoius as it sounds.

From a character standpoint that's what makes a Malkavian playthrough memorable, at least for me. Unfortunately the random lulz seems more popular, I'm glad to hear the devs will be focusing on the former in 2.

I won't lie, don't like Malkavians. Overrated, IMO. Give me Toreador or Tremere. You can't do better than Anne Rice or vampire wizards.

It'll be hard to decide which I want to do first in my initial Bloodlines 2 run.

The Tremere are especially tempting because the Pyramid is gone which means I could realistically RP a more...uh, independent Tremere.

Speaking of which, better be lots of choices to say fuck you to both the Cammies and Annies. I realize they basically went "I must go now, my planet needs me' to the Sabbat in V5 but I still hope for at least something along those lines in the game.

My usual pick is Tremere as well.

In the game, that is, I can't exactly play the table top version.

Same, wish I could. Normal playthroughs I like Tremere or Gangrel.

I doubt anyone would hold that against you, I'm not a fan of the Fishmalk tendencies of Bloodlines!Malks and yet I still adore its playthrough, Vampiric Mad Oracles that Know that Which They Should Not is a very compelling concept smile

Also something that occurred to me during VTMB talk elsewhere...

The Fledgling really dropped the ball with Heather. Yes, the Blood Bond ccan be horribly fucked up and creepy but the reason Heather keeps fucking up is because you never tell her a damned thing. You never explain anything beyond "I'm a vampire."

Perhaps with a little instruction she wouldn't kidnap people or get herself killed. You just leave the poor, addicted girl who think she's in love with you all alone in your apartment for God knows how long so of course she gets into trouble.

Hopefully if we have a Ghoul in Bloodlines 2 we can actually take proper care of them. Maybe even how well you take care of them - giving them information, trusting them, etc. - will determine if they live or die.

Eh, considering the blood bond is effectively brainwashing, maybe they should leave it at the "horribly fucked up" and the only moral thing to be done is to not start it.

I mean I always play as low humanity character and even I balked away from that.

I mean, if they're willing, I don't see a problem. Somebody like Knox is a good example of a really happy Ghoul.

Yeah, honestly to be fair though the Fledgeling also got next to zero instruction so of course theyd fuck up having a ghoul.

[up][up] Well yeah, even if the person is 100% reasonable and intelligent and mature and in control of their actions when they become a Ghoul, Vampire blood (vitae) is the best drug ever. Regular drugs wreck your body and lose their potency with use while vampire blood makes you stronger and the pleasure high never fades.

It's also why feeding is interesting in VTM. The Kiss (feeding) is also an ecstatic experience. In short, logically speaking, it makes perfect sense to let yourself be fed upon or drink vampire blood.

The horror of it all is a bit more subtle than your typical vampire who must kill to live and it is a painful or terrifying experience for the victim. Here the "horror" is that you would probably gladly give yourself to a vampire.

P.S.

There are exceptions. The Giovanni Kiss is very painful and Nagaraja have to literally eat their victims' flesh, not just drink from their blood so they have to kill to survive.

Admittedly if some hot goth babe vampire wanted to enslave I'd go willingly and be a ghoul lol, but that's just me. She'd probably also get a wicked buzz from my blood.

Can't wait for this game. It's a shame that all this pandemic shit happened and my buddy's V5 game never happened.

Had an idea, and damn I want to make a Malkavian version of Hunter S Thompson.

Oh I'd be a simpering slave to some vampire chick before she even touched me. If she wants to actually give me powers and the best high ever, that's even better.

Or I'd probably just end up selling my soul to a demon or something. But hey - it'll be good while it lasts.

Those Anarchs are good folks. They're the only major vampire faction that won't persecute you for the religious beliefs of worshiping demons.

[up][up]That doesn't count because you'd do anything if a hot goth asked you.

And this will likely earn me derisive looks, but I really want a Nagaraja to be playable in this game, the hot cannibal lady is one of my favorite NPC of Bloodlines.

[up][up] Pisha rules. Everybody loves her.

I wonder what Mary-Elizabeth Mc Glynn is up to these days. She is a legendary VA and Pisha's voice-actress.

I want more Independent Clans, anyway. Bloodlines 2 looks like it will just be Camarilla vs. Anarchs and that's boring. We don't even have the Kuei-jin this time around.

Plus nobody is a born fan of a specific Clan. Everybody was like "we gotta include Malkavians because people liked them." Yeah, they liked them because Bloodline 1 made people like them. "We have to include them because they're popular" is a regressive thought process. You never get anywhere. You just reifnorce the current top favorites, the current Greatest Hits, instead of making new ones.

Maybe they should have inserted 1 new Clan so people would be made to love them just like they were made to love the Clans in Bloodlines 1.

I guess the idea is additional Clans will be DLC but I think my point stands. The Giovanni (or Hecata, whatever) could be the new favorite Clans if they were featured prominently and written well as a playable Clan in Bloodlines 2.
