More specifically, posters who were not banned for exactly the behavior you guys are upset about. Because to my mind, banning them is a pretty good sign that we don't condone it.
Have you hollered those posts? I don't frequent the Anime & Manga forum so I had absolutely no knowledge of Kodomo No Jikan before this whole thing blew up. There must be a way to discuss an offensive work without being automatically taken as an apologist for the material it contains. It's that theory that has schools banning Huck Finn for "being racist".

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"They were around for a long time before they got banned, though.
Kill all math nerdsFor the record, I agree with Fighteer's insistence on concrete examples of the so-far hypothetical scenario(s) that are being put forth. It strikes me as ridiculous to believe that we can afford to devise a rule for every possible scenario that we can think of, regardless of how (im)probable it is and how much the increasing complexity of the site rules would weigh down the site's performance.
And how much of that was spent doing that sort of objectionable behavior?

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. It's not about devising a rule for every permutation of something, it's about developing a policy that is more stringent than "don't be a dick," and recognizes that dickish behavior is more than just being 'rude' to someone with an opinion you find disgusting.

Major Tom has recently been warned for instigating in the Iraqi Government faces collapse thread. Same type of behavior he has exhibited from day one on every thread dealing with the Middle East.
Rottweiler has repeatedly voiced sexist, elitist, and anti-Islamic views. To my knowledge, he had been banned once.
Yes, Signed, Raw Power, and Tongpu were banned... After years and years of rampantly offending everyone around them.
The Mods are not all-knowing/all-seeing; you cannot expect a group of less than 10 people to keep tabs on every single thread/subforum. That's what the holler button is there for; you call for them. It's like how 911 works IRL, actually; they can't have a patrol car in every single street 24/7.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Major Tom is one of those border cases. All of us in the mod team would love to ban him but it has to be for a legit reason, not just "expressing conservative views". We aren't trying to be a circlejerk of politically correct opinion, no dissent allowed.
Rottweiler did get banned and promised to stay out of trouble. Has he been up to his old tricks? We specifically warned him not to.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The problem is that when people try and 'deal' with their views, they get thumped or banned.

@Anthony
Only when they do it in an unnecessarily rude way.
The mods have posted in threads where Tongpu praised rapists and Deboss advocated forced sterilization. Not only should ignorance not be an excuse, but it literally isn't. If semi-regular lurkers are aware of the behavior, why isn't the mod?
By dealing, I mean having the courage, the maturity, showing that you can be a man or woman and being able to ignore what may or may not be a troll post. By replying to them, they win.
Please, post the evidence showing us this.

Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger than YoursAnd 'being unnecessarily rude' is a policy that is very poorly defined, even as it is written now.

Then they're "dealing" with it the wrong way - as in, they've stooped down to the offenders' level instead of politely and rationally deconstructing their offending comments/opinions and pointing out their inherent flaws while surreptiously reaching for the holler-to-the-mods button.
Are you sure you're talking about the Deboss?

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I don't think I've ever heard of someone getting banned for hollering. Since that is the way you deal with those views, I haven't heard of the problem.
Fight smart, not fair.Rott has to my limited knowledge stayed out of threads dealing with women.
If Major Tom is accused by a mod of instigating shit, isn't that reason enough?
Rott was promoting Islamophobia and racism in the thread that got Shichibukai banned.
"Dr. Strangeloid, or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Cleanlink" - thespacephantom@Deboss: Exactly. I don't see what's so hard or unacceptably inefficient about the Holler mechanism.
And pardon me for asking, but can you confirm the authenticity of echoecho's claim here, Deboss?

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. No, the mods have gotten it wrong before. And as far as this instance goes we only have your word to go by. A link that demonstrates what you are talking about would allow us to see just what the issue is.
Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger than YoursThe user Tongpu praised rapists? What? Where? Could anyone please show me? Or were his posts thumped?

525: A community should be self regulating, if you can't deal with shit on your own then why bother even having other users. The report button should only be used for things like porn and people bitching for too long, not for every minor opinion expressed. Especially when this site's policy is to ban without reason given, the person will not learn, they will not grow, they'll have the same shitty beliefs just somewhere else, hopefully somewhere with the common sense to let users grow some cojones and deal with problems by themselves.
The administration says it does not want to be a nanny state and then goes on about how you should never deal with things on your own. It is not wrong to call that a fucking joke.

So, now it's got to be one strike and you're gone forever? What part of "he was warned not to do that again" flew over your heads?
I'm getting a very strong vibe from some of you that you will simply not accept our answers on this matter until/unless we ban every controversial or unpopular opinion from TV Tropes on sight. I'm sorry, but that will not happen. If you refuse to accept that, you can go post somewhere else.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I don't see a post from Devise. Deboss perhaps?
Captain Planet delved into the topic of having kids and I believe forced sterilization. Should we delete the page because of it?

The Kodomo No Jikan thread should be evidence enough, if that's not enough there are all the rape threads in OTC which have no shortage of rape apologists trying to say that victim blaming is perfectly valid, the fetishes thread routinely features people talking about child porn as a positive thing.
