Thing is, the new air benders seem very few and far between. There were what, under 20 in all of ba sing se? A city of millions. A few might show up, but hardly enough for their own gang.

When I was asking about the airbenders, I was thinking further in the future, like maybe decades after Legend of Korra. Right now the answer is obviously "no," but I'm asking if there's the possibility of the answer being "yes" farther in the future, because not everyone who airbends will want to be a Nomad, and not everyone who airbends will operate legally.

I think that after the series ends, non-Nomad airbenders would end up living separate from temples and have normal lives, but could still go to a temple and ask an Airbending master for some bending tips. That way, the two groups could have a good relationship with each other.

Glad to see the Internet is collectively losing their shitake mushrooms over the pulling of Korra today.

Not like there totally wasn't a reason behind it or anything.

@arctic Nick did this to the show. they put it on at a bad time and refused to advertise it. They've handled it like crap while it's a good show that deserves better

[up][up] Nick actualy bars cartoons with a female lead from airing now IIRC...

Or is that Cartoon Network, so yes, it kinda is....

I don't remember either one of them saying that directly. You might be thinking of Cartoon Network's idea that they don't have any reason to cater to the female demographics.

If we're going that route, Boys actually are more than 50% of the younger than 18 demographic and the percentage likely increases the younger the audience.

In that sense, it makes sense for them to focus more on boys, but they seem to have a very shallow impression of what boys will like, and to completely ignore girls doesn't make any sense.

To all those saying someone else should just buy the show...I'm not sure you realize how complicated the rights issues there can be. And that's also assuming Nick would even want to sell the rights, whether they use them wisely or not.

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.

Most of the waterbenders from the original series seemed to be.

Which made me scratch my head when the movie came around.

Yes and No for CN.

CN does have a show airing now with a female semi-lead show called Steven Universe. The protagonist is obviously Steven, but the three main characters outside of the protagonist are his three older (like, early to late 20s older) female guardians who have quirky and defined protagonists and, from what I hear, is developing a pretty decent mythos and, supposedly, developing their characters and playing with them in a non-plot heavy fashion.

At least its more likely to get renewed than Clarence which is having A LOT of controversy right now, but that's a story for somewhere else.

Now, on the other hand, and I hate to bring up said show again, Sym-Bionic Titan was a show that was intended to be Genndy Tartarvousky's (I can never spell his name right without looking it up and I'm lazy) return to CN, the channel that he basically made a household name through work on Power Puff Girls (Lead Character Designer while Craig Mc Cracken was the creator), Dexter's Lab, and Samurai Jack.

It was an awesome show with a unique art style that, damn, it had GREAT animation (which could EASILY get into Scenery Porn at times) and fantastic music, writing, and voice acting. The first season was... Very Character driven. It wasn't so much forwarding the plot and it was formulaic in some points, but it was obvious that they were taking their small steps towards building bigger plots, which it really got towards at the end of its twenty episode run.

They also were very clearly gunning for an older target demographic by dealing with more teenage issues and doing so straight forward rather than hiding behind allegories or euphemisms.

The most imfamous of this was a scene where the Head Cheerleader is trying to convince one our three main protagonists (who is a robot disguised as a typical nerd character) to take her Take-Home-Test for her, where she eventually gives up trying to be coy and simply turns on some loud suggestive music and dances for him before sliding the test towards him which he flat tells her no. They then go to discuss why Kimmi (the cheerleader) was acting like she was and they took her from a typical 'Rich Bitch' flat character and developed her out nicely and later goes to be a pretty important character for the season.

Anyway, the show was axed because of supposedly lack of merch sales (There wasn't any because I would have bought it in a heart beat) despite having probably the easiest stuff to make merch of. There's probably two dozen Kaiju Monster Designs by the end of the series and the protagonists each have their own Robot Suit which dozens of weapons each AND they can combine their robot suits into a MASSIVE Mech to fight more powerful foes.

Its often theorized that the show, which lent itself very easily to a toy line, wasn't given merchandise deals because it, like Korra now, featured a Female Lead character. She, also like Korra, was very nicely developed and often outright defied certain tropes that fall on females in cartoons. The show hammered in at times that Illana (the female protagonist) can hold her own in a fight, has her own awesome mech suit with its own special powers that compare nicely to the Male Protagonists' Suit, while also having her own voice of character AND being probably the best rejection of the Limited Wardrobe Trope I have ever seen by always having a new outfit every episode (often more than one) and never repeating them.

But, its been thought that action figure companies weren't interested because of the female lead. The word that CN would often be sending notes about wanting changes to the show, often drastic ones, to the animators makes me think that too.

Anyway, thought that might be relevant since SBT and Korra have a lot in common even though they don't seem like it from the surface.

EDIT: Come to think of it, SBT is probably the closest to Pacific Rim as an Animated Cartoon. The show, to put it simply, is basically a throw back to old 80s Mecha Animes, but combined with 80s teen movies like Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club, and etc. And trust me, if that sounds like an Odd Combo, it is but it WORKED. :) I'd highly recommend it.

Honestly, I never watched too much of Sym-Bionic Titan, but what I did see I really liked.

Why didn't they sell merch? Female Transformers sell just as well as males of similar notability.

It's Tartakovsky, by the way. [Is a total SBT fan as well]

Darn it, why do animation companies always eliminate the gems but keep all the cow dung on air? Not that I hate Adventure Time or Steven Universe, but neither can hold a candle to Sym Bionic Titan or Legend Of Korra. Or Avatar The Last Airbender, for that matter (I keep meaning to watch it, but my family and I keep forgetting to rent it from Netflix. I know, pathetic. (-__-')).

[up][up]Either no one lined up to do a toy deal (Economic Recession or not interested???) or CN just didn't market it around well.

Though, like Korra, SBT was certainly targeted for a upper demographic level and that means more clothing and poster based merch, not toy based stuff, which is what CN pushes for. It basically needed what CN does with Regular Show and Adventure Time at Hot Topic; some figurines, patches, jewelry/accessories, tee shirts, etc.

But, since its an action show, Toys Only???

Like I said, I really only bring it up because its possible Korra is having the same issues.

I'm a critical person but I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. Now, I should be writing.
