Rap and Hip-Hop:

Blood on the Leaves is good but I'm so used to Kanye West autotune songs to care any more. But I think "She Instagramed her self like bad bitch alert" Is my new favorite lyric of the year.

EDIT: Anybody listen to Meek Mill Dreams and Nightmare album how good is it I only heard Dreams and Nightmare and Burn so far.

Sorry for the double post but I just heard Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip thank the song was perfect all we needed to make it better was a verse from Kanye.

[up] I listened to the Abstract and the Dragon also. That remix of "Scenario" is crazy.

And in other news, Macklemore just swept the rap categories at the Grammys last night, with Kendrick Lamar winning nothing for good kid, m.A.A.d. city. Internet Backdraft has been crazy.

Does Kedrick have any other albums planned?

Also any news on Lupe's new album or songs he plans to put out?

2855 Acesoldier Zero, Tue, 28th Jan '14 8:26:07 AM from Virginia Relationship Status: Gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
[up] Nothing announced for right now, he spent pretty much all of 2013 doing guest verses and touring with Kanye. On his label, Schoolboy Q is about to drop his major label debut, so I think that he probably is working on a new album, but he's going to wait until Oxymoron drops before any info comes out.

As for Lupe, he's got two albums planned, Tetsuo and Youth and Skulls, but I don't know too much about either one. I'm a Lupe fan, but my expectations are kind of tepid until I hear them(did not like Lasers or Food and Liquor II).

Funny Lupe never struck me as a person to do guest verses.

Oxymoron just dropped last week. Shit is immensely hot, I highly recommend it.

In other news, Rick Ross's new album should come out in like two days.

Man of the Year is the only song I like from him but I'll check it out.

YEAH YEAH YEAH

Oxymoron's my favorite album so far.

If Ross can keep making music like "The Devil Is A Lie" and Sanctified", he might make me a fan with Mastermind.

That "In Vein" track with The Weekend is a definite banger on Rick Ross' album. Also Curren$y's "The Drive In Theatre" mixtape is a great project. Constant Godfather 3 skits.

[up] I love this track, although I wouldn't have necessarily put The Weeknd as a natural fit for a track with Rick Ross.

Interesting trivia I learned about Mastermind - apparently the beat for "Mafia Music 3" was originally going to be a beat Dre was going to use for Detox:

I've got one question: what makes a Piss Take Rap bad? Is a non-black-ghetto person rapping automatically bad, or what are the criteria? Because I can't tell the difference in lyrical level between what I see here and the likes of Snoop Dogg or 50 Cent's products.

[up]A piss take rap, as I see it, has to involve cheesy lyrics, weak flow, and the rapper involved trying to come off as hard or cool, but failing. It's usually done for Stylistic Suck, and not really based on race; OG Loc rapping in GTA San Andreas is an example of a Piss Take Rap, B-Rabbit rapping in 8 Mile is not.

I've never really listened to rap or hip-hop before, who or what would you recommend I listen to?

2867 The Handle, Thu, 1st May '14 2:55:42 PM from Location, Location, Loca
I'm gonna go with the stereotype and say The Marshall Mathers LP. Also, Jay-Z's Blueprint and Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne.

And Gurren Lagann's main theme, Rap Is A Man's Soul, a.k.a. Libera Me From Hell. RAW RAW FIGHT THE POWAH! [opera intensifies]

How come Rap is so much about boasting and otherwise being boisterous?

[up][up]I'd also suggest some stuff by Childish Gambino, if you also like techno/electropop because a lot of his beats are in that style.

Regarding Lupe, I don't know, he's just getting a bit too tinfoil hat-ish for me. He reminds me of those people at street fairs who sell raw shea butter and try to tell you about The Man.

Necroing cause I wanted to post this Busta Rhyme/Eminem collab I came across a few days ago.

This is the second time they've done a track together, and personally, I think Em's verse is better here. Busta's is pretty good as well, though it takes a bit for it to pick up. Beat could probably be a little better, bit I appreciate how Scoop Deville was able to flip House of Pain.

So...

Death Grips have formally broken up, but the second half of their (ostensible) final album is still forthcoming. I sincerely look forward to it: The first half contains some of Ride's most versatile and diverse flows yet, and the production was absolutely insane.

Also, the new clipping. is pretty damn good. "Ends" in particular is just a wonderful track.

Have a ton of new artists I discovered that I want to post here.

I'll start with Bishop Nehru. He's dope, although he sounds a little too much like Joey Bada$$ when you first listen to him. Very talented though, and he just made a project with MF Doom thats dropping in late September.
