Well, when they fight stronger enemies, they have the limiters lifted.

IIRC, it's explained that the function of the limiters isn't so much to keep power in check as it is to balance out the team and prevent unnecessary rivalry.

It also serves as a blind, because an enemy has no way of gauging their real strength.

They can still wreck armies but honestly, those 'armies' are lame robots, kinda like the Mooks of the TSAB.

Mooks aren't the only ones that get wrecked; Vita sends Garyu through a wall without much effort.

Y'know, I can see an entire plot thread arising due to mandating power limiters on superheroes.

I wonder what it'll be like if they visit a place where limiters are prohibited due to a law that has never been repealed for centuries.

Well, they're in the military; I think in some circumstances the regulations of the armed forces take precedence over local legislation.

The power limiters were a minor plot point in concealing their S-ranked powers. That's why Quattro never saw the Dungeon Bypass coming.

I think it's also why Nanoha decided to take Scaglietti's bait when she suspected he was sending over his aerial units to evaluate them and harvest crucial intelligence.

I'm not sure, but I think Nanoha and Hayate knew that they were being covertly monitored, and that's at least partly why the limiters were kept on as long as they were.

Or they could simply not use their powers to their full extent.

^That might not work if:

  • The enemy had mechanical devices that can gauge power levels a la DBZ
  • In the heat of battle, it would hamper your fighting abilities if you were forced to concentrate on keeping check of your own power in addition to everything else going on at the same time, and there's always the risk that you might let out just enough for the enemy to catch on. I mean, I'm sure they could do it, but it probably makes life easier for them to have the limiters on.

In a sense, those limiters are part of the "Fight Smart" strategy. Lull your opponents into overconfidence, then go all out at some point. Thus, once again, obligatory Quattro's Oh Crap moment before the Dungeon Bypass reference.

Also, the "official" reason for the limiters is TSAB politics (again with the politics...tongue); IIRC they impose a limit on the total amount of firepower that a single unit can have, so the limiters are a way around that.

The higher-ups are probably worried about a coup d'etat, which could be an interesting storyline...

I think Hayate explicitly said that part concerning politics. Since you know, you've got three Aces in one division and all. Nanoha's limiter also had the added bonus that she wouldn't always use her Deadly Upgrade.

Of course it all went to shit when Saint's Cradle was in the air.

Well, with that monstrosity, you'd need all the firepower you can possibly muster.

So the gloves come off, naturally.

I didn't know about the Deadly Upgrade thing.

That would make the story seem less like Nanoha is just plain overpowered, by actually giving her a flaw. Specifically, not that she has as deadly upgrade, but that she's not too good at keeping herself from using it.

Funny thing is, she beats up others if they attempt to do the same.
Buckethead was real sad but it seemed like he played guitar better than ever. All the grey people and angels in the cemetery listened to the music and it was so beautiful they just stood still and speechless.

Okay, Teana didn't use a Deadly Upgrade, but she still pushing herself beyond her limits.

On a different note, I was rewatching A's, and in one episode it's mentioned that the Wolkenritter set up a security system around Hayate's house. That made me think about what would happen if some petty criminal decided to rob the house (specifically, how badly the Wolkenritter would OMGWTFBBQPWN him).

Really late in noticing this, but I'm bored so I'm watching StrikerS again and I noticed that they actually showed the forwards' and captains' callsigns in the first OP.

Speaking of callsigns, am I alone in thinking that it would sound much cooler if Nanoha's callsign was "White Devil"? It would also sound more realistic (insofar as Call Of Duty 4 is a good measure of realism...) tongue

I'm also planning on rewatching StrikerS when I'm not snowed-under with my studies. I've been thinking about getting the DVD rips, in the hope that they've fixed most of the art problems from the original broadcast. Off Model characters just bugs me

Well, I didn't see a Higurashi-esque Nanoha when she knocked some sense into Tea, so I assume they fixed it. Though I think I'd be amused if she did look Higurashi-like, since Rika was the only one who didn't go berserk...

The Coldlight subs are DVD rips, which fixes the animation issues (and adds the floor-stomping before Nanoha blasts Quattro).

For some reason, though, I can't seem to find a healthy torrent for it. I don't understand, it was fine just last week, when I gave neobowman a link for it...

So funny, when I saw the non-DVD version of Striker S originally, in that scene, I immediately thought "Her stomp should have crushed the ground".. evil grin
