5x[up]... I hate it already.

And now I feel overwhelmed with options, since I have two navigators and more than double the number of possible party members.

The Captor Spider has multiple parts so you need AOE attacks. Pretty much the only place in the entire game where they're useful, so if you're like me you won't have any equipped.

I really don't remember exactly what Poison attack I used on the Queen, but I kept Toxic Slice on Naoto for most of the game since it only costs 10 HP and she can spam it forever.

So, after finally setting up my fancy-dancy $40 Playstation TV, I decided to get Persona 3 Portable as my first game for it. I was wondering what the general thoughts on it are; how it compares to the original P3, things I should look out for or know, etc. I thought about getting 4 Golden, but I still remembered the original 4 well enough, whereas I didn't remember 3 that well, so I decided to give 3 another go.

Come to think of it, I first played the original P3 back when I was... I think I was 15? (I'm 24 now.) I liked it fine when I first started playing it. But then I played Persona 4, and after that, went back and played P1 and P2. And right after finishing a second play-through of P4, I played P3 again.I don't actually remember my experiences with P3 that well, but what I do remember is that, on that second playthrough, I absolutely loathed it. Not being able to control your character was one reason; when first playing 3, I didn't mind it so much, but after both playing 4, as well as learning first-hand that 1 and 2 actually gave you direct control over your party despite being made before 3, I just couldn't stand not being able to control my party. I also didn't like the characters; it just seemed like they were 'animu' sterotypes and cliches, as well as privileged rich or 'preppy' kids, rather than the more realistic teenagers of previous games. (Minus Junpei. Junpei was still awesome.) And the story seemed pretentious as well; rather than dealing with 'being your true mind', like the other games, it instead tried to deal with death, and seemed to fail at it spectacularly. I generally hated the game now.

But, as they say, time heals all wounds. It's been so long since I played P3 that my feelings on it have largely faded away, and I don't remember nearly as much of it as I used to. Additionally, the other Persona games aren't all that fresh in my memory either, though still more-so than 3. Basically, I want to give 3 another chance, and playing the new&improved version of it seems like the best choice; if anything, being able to control your party members already bumps it up a notch.

...no, not really. It's just a boss with multiple parts that you have to kill at the same time for REASONS.

The bosses front limbs act as a shield, protecting the main body. The main body can only be harmed when all four go down. They regenerate over several turns as well.

Does sound like a tricky boss. If you can kill them all at once, do they come back?

[up]x2 I did say they regenerate.

They don't have too much HP, but the main body is pretty much useless for the turns it has no limbs.

The problem is that if you kill them one at a time then the first one will regenerate on the same turn that you kill the last one, and you never have time to attack the body. So you have to kill them all on roughly the same turn. Not exactly hard, but really annoying if you have no AOE.

Question:

In P3, did the Kirijo group experiment ten years ago create death, or was it already there and they just awakened it?

Because i'm leaning towards the first, which is making my OCD go kind of haywire to the point i can't play the game.

Death predates the human race. It's actually responsible for the evolution of advanced lifeforms, as I recall. I don't remember why.

My understanding is that Nyx introduced Death (or rather, awareness of Death) to the Earth eons ago, but the stuff the Kirijo Group did in the '90s resulted in Death being made manifest in the form of a Shadow.

I sure said that!

Still convinced that the Night Queen was an earlier form of the Appraiser that was just sealed in the Snow Queen mask before she could trigger the Fall, and the Kirijo Group just basically sped up her natural reforming after Pierced Ear and crew kicked her ass a few years prior.

Word of God says the Night Queen is the Persona of the last Snow Queen victim, who in turn is the spirit haunting the mask but, uh, this doesn't make sense since the curse of the mask clearly predates her, and the other victims mention the mask talking to them and driving them to their current state. My guess is that the Night Queen merely posed as the last girl's Persona during the time she wore the mask (and likely did for the other victims as well).

The SQQ has a bit of logical problems such as it all being somehow Maki's fault.

If I recall right P3 club book does mention that Nyx or the Night Queen is mankinds attempt at comprehending Nyx. So she's not Nyx, but she is how humans believe Death Nyx to be.

Kinda like how interviews for SMTII mention the Kabbalah was inspired by the shape of the Expanse.

Makes sense. After all, Nyx herself is a Outer God sleeping in the moon, who's very presence reeks Death, but it has a place in the human consciousness since ancient times. It'd make sense that particular Shadows would form that basically reflect Nyx's influence over the collective unconsciousness. Like a child trying to be like mother.

Since the Appraiser is also pretty much a Shadow (being the combination of 12 other Shadows onto Death), it doesn't necessarily mean that this doesn't apply to it too, or that the Night Queen is completely unrelated.

[up][up][up]As someone who didn't actually play the game... the main thing about the SQQ route that I dislike is that it was apparently where Tadashi first decided to pair his Author Avatar with Tamaki simply because he liked an actress she was based after, because, y'know, that's not creepy or self-agrandizing at all.
