Yay, a Shadowrun thread! I bought Runner's Companion yesterday, it's pretty good.
Nice. I've got that one myself. I kinda want to create a character to ride a monocycle.
I kinda keep trying to find excuses to buy the 20th Anniversary edition; I'd like it, I gave my old copy to my cousin, but I don't have anyone to play with.
Do you think there's enough interest here to run a game?
[[tvtropes.org/pmwiki/lb_i.php?lb_id=12919183980B30760200 Liveblog of]] John Carter Of MarsI wouldn't mind starting up a game with you.
Also, whats the difference between fourth edition and the the 20th anniversary edition?
Pretty pictures.
- And I think some errata.
Sad to say, I think I've got most of the rules memorized...

[[tvtropes.org/pmwiki/lb_i.php?lb_id=12919183980B30760200 Liveblog of]] John Carter Of MarsI've got 2nd and 4th.
I honestly think I prefer 2nd, there's tons of editting errors in my 4th ed book.
I'm looking at YOU weapon tables.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"As the owner of the books I support this thread.
For me, 3e+4e are back on the other side of the country, and I gave 4e to my cousin. All I have now is 4e Runner's Companion and Arsenal.
What kinds of gaming style or plots are you interested in? What kinds of characters do you like?
Whoo...the Cyberzombies...they should be Large Ham Darker and Edgier, but for some reason, they actually seem...what's the word? Creepy? Terrifying? Pitiable?
- Silent Hill's hospital has a delta-clinic?
I always liked terrifying, where combat was always dangerous, and the game is one where Anyone Can Die.
I like it taking thought and careful execution to pull everyone out mostly intact. just the way it's portrayed in the books.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Used to play in a Really high Power Campaign, like over 200+ karma. Was Playing a Cybered out Face, that was starting to lean to Decker, but out DM was a lazy ass about it, and did jack all to help me understand how to deck. Didn't help that I was only 16 or so at the time, and they'd probably been playing longer then I was alive.
But Shadowrun was fun. Better then the Ridonculusly overpowerd oWoD Vampire: Sabbat Game we did. Though playing a Necromantic Toreador was fun, Artist of death has such a nice feel to it.
We were originally doing 2nd ed, but we moved up to 3rd cause one of the players managed to convice the DM that it wasn't that much different, (it wasn't). Then one of the players tried to run a 4th ed game. That group was the kind that did not like to change rule systems for anyreasons, so that has since flopped.
Best Line I ever said in there: "Gel rounds, Apply Directly to the forehead."
Good times, good times.
CAPS LOCK IS RAGE!!!I'm up for anything plot wise, but are we allowed to use supplement books for character creation?
Umm...I've only got Arsenal and Runner's Companion, and I'm going to have a hard enough time convincing myself to buy 4e; I'll be too miserly to buy anything more.
I'm thinking about stopping buy and picking it up later today, but it's fifty bucks. I got a few 'maybes' from my coworkers about a sample game, but...
I was thinking, at least for the first mission...spoilers;
- If Michael Crichton had collaborated with Hideo Kojima, it would be awesome. That is not my scenario; my scenario would be the hack Fan Fiction of that collaboration. Metal Gear Rex, anyone?

[[tvtropes.org/pmwiki/lb_i.php?lb_id=12919183980B30760200 Liveblog of]] John Carter Of MarsSo...it would be Metal Gear Solid-esque?
Hmm...not sure; I haven't game mastered that much, actually, so I haven't worked out my style, beyond my mantra of "Keep it flowing".
- It was mostly an exaggerated tag-line, I think.
I could probably keep a campaign going, but dip back and forth between that thread, and then one-offs.
I have to say, Metal Gear Solid is probably as close as you get in videogames to Shadowrun, with out magical powers.
I think I'm not good enough at thinking up the nasty twist that seems to be the hallmark of Shadowrun.
Got the 20th Anniversary edition off Amazon. It is very shiny.
I'm not necessarily saying that I'm going to run it, since I tend to panic when I think of running a game, but who would be interested, what do you like, and when are you available? Damn it, I would like to actually use my new book.
- Vent or play by post? I could see doing a hybrid, actually.
Only played/run 3e. You have to be careful with the rules in later books because if you allow just everything you end up with vastly overpowered characters, and I'm not just talking about trolls carrying bows that do more damage than a vigorous assault cannon.
I like 4e. If nothing else, the wireless future is interesting.
[[tvtropes.org/pmwiki/lb_i.php?lb_id=12919183980B30760200 Liveblog of]] John Carter Of MarsWe could use Open RPG.
Don't know anything about that. But we've got Vent and the Forums, don't we?
Urgh, I get so nervous about starting up my own game; I've seen so many crash and burn.

Well, I'll look into it.
Who...
- ...Is willing to play?
- ...Has 4e?
- And when are they available?
I'm willing to play, but Tuesday nights are the best for me.
A timezone for everyone to work by would be an idea.
Hey hey hey, I'm already in on a Play by Email Game, but I'd totally be in on this one. I've got all the 4e sourcebooks too, so that's gold, and I'm available...weekends, I guess.
I usually play either my Zen Buddhist "hacker" or my cryptic Weapon Specialist/Assassin. Oddly enough, they both have the same synthetic bamboo conical hat...

I would. but I'm super busy of late.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"I might roll up a stealth based character for a change.
Hoi, chummers! I could have sworn we'd had a general Shadowrun thread, but I guess I was wrong; this must be rectified.
I picked up an old second edition copy of cybermancy from the used bookshop. Familiar, but different...more, more, flavor text.
Also, I was staying up late and I was thinking there should be a Talking Heads Cybermancy song. "Once After a Lifetime" perhaps. My god, what have I done?
