Dogs can smell protein from a mile off. And they're not squeamish.
The biggest problems here are: a) the mess created when the dogs inevitably shred things, and b) the possibility of the dogs getting sick from ingesting plastic.

They do, however, make chemical sprays that discourage predators. (I'm tempted to acquire some to keep raccoons out of the garbage.)

I figured you were probably messing with us. I was trying to be flippant with the "I'm not so sure..." bit, then suggest seriously that dosing it with something might not be a bad idea.
And...okay. I followed the link to Troll 2, and saw something about Quest for the Mighty Sword. Which led me on a weird convoluted path to other pages and offsite.
Suffice to say that I thought Thor in The Incredible Hulk Returns looked oddly familiar.
