Holy shitsticks.
This looks awesome, even though it differs greatly from the usual Ace Combat formula. Real world? Helicopter missions? Some fans won't be happy with this, but I'm excited.
Jagged Alliance 2 LP (Redux) (Closed!)Looks fun. I've played a few games with helicopter missions before, I was unhappy with the clunky controls.
Fight smart, not fair.A console Ace Combat? On PS 3? Finally!
Just watched the video.
HOLY FUCK YES!
I am a proud member of the Western Federation's Anti-Japan Media Task Force. My work is very important.IT'S FOR THE PS 3!?! FINALLY!!!
Looks a lot more action-movie-ish though, especically with all the flying in between buildings, point-blank dogfights, and explosions. Not too bothered though, might be the reason why they changed the universe.
Wonder if it'll have a scenario from Operation: Iraqi Freedom or something...
Bump.
Jonah FalconAm I the only one dismayed by the HAWX style action displayed? Jeeze, give people hackneyed JRPG storylines as often as possible, but if it's a tad hokey in any other genre look out!
Didn't AC 4's story wow anybody else?
Charlie Tunoku is a lover and a fighter. No, Joe. Ace Combat 4's story was lame and you should feel bad.
Honestly though, it's starting to sound like you are seriously considering Ace Combat Ruined FOREVER.
I heard that this stuff may be just an addition, so I've decided to de-elevate from Red to Yellow on the RAE Gometer. I will miss Strangereal though.
BUT I WILL DO SOMETHING RASH IF MY ACE EDGE DOESN'T WORK.
Charlie Tunoku is a lover and a fighter.Honestly, I ain't gonna miss that place. I've already done some serious Canon Defilement by trying to sync up the events of AC05 & AC06 with the events of Modern Warfare and Ghost Recon.
I'm kinda nuts.
I am a proud member of the Western Federation's Anti-Japan Media Task Force. My work is very important.^^^IT IS. Watch the dev video.
Charlie Tunoku is a lover and a fighter.I'm waiting for them to remake 3 with everything they cut put back in.
Did anyone ever find out the reason why that happened? I hope whoever made that decision was fired.
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar who could drink you under the table~I'm not happy about the helicopters or the fact that it seems that you may not be in total control of the plane at all times.
And... :56 in... that must be video fluff. I hope.
Ace Combat is by the same guys that made the Sky Crawlers game, right?
That game was awesome!
What is this. Why are planes bleeding
I'm glad the Ace Combat series is coming to PS 3, though, even if it's missing out things like giant flying aircraft carriers or giant railguns or that sort of thing. It'll most likely be better than HAWX, at any rate.
So it looks like when you get up close to an enemy plane, that large circle appears, and you need to keep them in that circle for missiles to lock and for your machinegun to hit them, and you can pull off those dogfighting tricks (or at least, thats what I got from that video.) Sounds interesting, I guess. I'd like to hear an actual expanation of teh mechanic, though.
Presumably you can still attack targets from outside "close-range assault" mode.
EDIT: I may show this trailer to my pilot cadet friend. It may give him a rage-induced aneurism

you mean the oil on the camera? Why not?
Well at least the gameplay shows that it's not a rail shooter like some people thought from early screen shots. The graphical detail looks better than I imagined, but I"m not sure I like the "floaty" camera right immediately behind the plane. It's too close to the engine, compared to where it sits in previous games. Still not happy that this takes place on Earth and not Strangereal, but I suppose as long as it doesn't have a number in it's name, then it's ok. Save Strangereal for Ace Combat 7.
Oh, I've not got a problem with the bleeding planes thing, it's quite a neat effect. It's just a bit silly, is all; like they decided to introduce Plane Gorn.
And this does look fun. Not realistic at all, but fun. Realistic would be engaging fighters with missiles before you can even see them, and it's hard as feckin' nails.
I tried the fighter jets in Lock On: Modern Air Combat. After being shot down multiple times I decided, "fuck this", and switched to Close Air Support with the A10. Much easier (relatively), and much more rewarding. *
So I wouldn't mind action-movie dogfighting. I'm just glad it's coming to PS 3. The helicopter stuff does look slightly suspect, but I'd have to see more footage of it. (and Apache: Air Assault already does helicombat excellently)

I love the Ace Combat series. I really didn't think they could top Ace Combat 6. I'm extremely glad I was wrong.

"Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person that doesn't get it."I have a sort of love-hate relationship with Ace Combat. I think the game's mechanics have been continually improving since 4 (where I started with the franchise), but the storyline has been going downhill at the same time. Ace Combat 6 was a joy to play (air-to-ground special weapons that aren't useless? Actually useful allies? Massively increased replayability due to the multiple objectives per mission? Finally having mid-mission checkpoints?!), but the plot was a mindnumbingly terrible Shoot the Shaggy Dog story. If they can continue to improve the gameplay while including a plotline that isn't infuriatingly preachy (5), entirely nonsensical (Zero) or completely pointless (6), then I'll friggen marry it.
Oh, and the music has been going downhill, too. Each game has at least one or two awesome tracks, but the number of songs worth listening to per game has been progressively dropping since 4. That said, the gameplay in 6 was such a step up that I'm willing to forgive a lot.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. What makes Zero's storyline nonsensical? It's my favorite of them all.
