Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

NOTE: Edited with OP's permission.

We'll need some finished markup to copy and paste. We're not gonna add a trope without details. See How To Write An Example for more.

Uwe Boll should be unlocked again. Really, that's not even a member of a red link club.

[up] Dear God, no. Nononono. Uwe Boll is Flame Bait taken Up To Eleven. If his page was unlocked every vandal and troll would crawl out of the woodwork and have a party with that page.

EDIT: ...why is there nothing on his page, yet visible edits on the page history?

Because the page was cut. Page history isn't deleted when the page is.

Unlock requests don't go here, they go to "Please unlock a locked, cut page (not a member of the Permanent Red Link Club)." Please pay more attention to thread titles.

And Uwe Boll can safely be considered a club member. So they don't go.

[up]Actually we already sandboxed it to be more neutral. Here it is. I have no idea why is was cut again.

Wikilink cleanup for the Evil Overlord List, item number 13:

# All slain enemies will be [[KillItWithFire cremated]], or at least have [[MoreDakka several rounds of ammunition emptied into them]], not [[NeverFoundTheBody left for dead at the bottom of the cliff]]. The announcement of their deaths, as well as any accompanying celebration, will be deferred until after the aforementioned disposal.

Everythings Worse With Snowclones misuses Dead Horse Trope.

As you may have noticed, we have some titles that people very frequently try to make snowclones of, almost enough for the practice to become a Dead Horse Trope in and of itself.

A Dead Horse Trope is when subversions and parodies far outnumber straight examples, not simply when a trope is considered overused and done to death. That's Discredited Trope.

Something for The Bible, Heel–Face Turn:

Can someone please add for The Bible Character Sheet, for David:

I'm not sure if this trope should be added, because while the original hebrew text is: "וַיִּשְׁלַח וַיְבִיאֵהוּ וְהוּא אַדְמוֹנִי, עִם-יְפֵה עֵינַיִם וְטוֹב רֹאִי" which most hebrew speakers would probably translate as something like this: "And he sent and brought him, and he was ruddy, with beautiful eyes, and handsome appearance.", the King James Version is: "Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to."

Also, possibly:

  • Pretty Boy: "And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and withal of a fair countenance."

I'm not sure about this one either, so do whatever seems best to you.

[up][up] Didn't add What Beautiful Eyes!: "A character's comely eyes are a defining character trait." We don't know David as the guy with the wonderful eyes. In general if you are unsure something is an example it's better to leave it off rather than add it with an editor self-insert expressing doubt.

Pretty Boy seems plausible. Adding that one. It's interesting to see it in biblical language. Man, they sure were hung up about people being ruddy.

[up] Done.

I moved the Godwin's Law of Time Travel page off the ptitle and made the ptitle page a redirect. I was going to move the Laconic page as well, but Laconic.Godwins Law Of Time Travel is currently locked. Could the page be edited to say:

Changing the past will always make the Nazis win.

With the main page of My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic locked once again (curse you, vandals!), I'd like to make a request.

Before being locked, someone made a massive info dump on the main page mostly relating to the fandom and its cultural impact. This isn't necessary, but instead of just getting rid of it I figure we could move it to the fancy new Analysis page, since Doctor Who also uses part of their Analysis page for cultural impact.

Specifically this is what I'm requesting to be removed from the main page.

In addition, MLP: FiM has spawned a variety of music compositions and enormous quantities of fan art, enough to flood most of the image boards on the 'net throughout 2011 (starting with cartoons, but swiftly spreading to message boards devoted to topics as diverse as violent video games, wrestling, and heavy metal, with Team Fortress in particular becoming seen as a fortress of brony-dom.)

It has even spawned an unofficial fighting game currently in production, My Little Pony: Fighting Is Magic, which is making waves in the industry.

Other spinoffs produced by the fan community include a Rainbow Dash-mod of the Adult Swim game Robot Unicorn Attack, which preceded ponies by a few short months, helping to establish the inherent manliness of all things rainbows and unicorns.

Despite such ironic remarks, the show was cited by Wired as an example of "the new sincerity" in 2010's culture, with adult fans honestly defending the assertion that it took self-confidence to appreciate the show on its own merits as a celebration of innocence, friendship and tolerance. Others watch it for the plot.

Friendship Is Magic did not penetrate the mainstream consciousness until Summer 2011 when Fox News issued a series of critiques of the "bronies" phenomenon, with William Kristol declaring it to be "worse than terrorism!" (the other people on the Fox panel were supportive of the trend), and other commentators comparing it to the adult fanbase of Spongebob Squarepants, another cartoon known for its good writing that appeals to children and adults. Of course, America has a long and storied history of producing and marketing animation exclusively for kids. The resulting fan response led to a series of Shout Outs by other media figures, including Stephen Colbert (who gave a brohoof "to all my bronies!")

Much like Trek or Doctor Who, the MLP fandom has spawned its own cult with distinctive lingo and code phrases.+

The writers even make references to these fandoms and Ascended Fanon, such as Derpy Hooves. While the phrase "brony" originally referred to the male audience, it has since come to mean any adult fan of the show — male or female — to a certain extent.

The high-profile fansite Equestria Daily, which went online on January, 19, 2011, has visibly shown the surprisingly quick growth of the fanbase. To compare, it took 57 days for the site to reach 1 million hits. Now the site racks up a million hits every 2 days.

The episode "The Best Night Ever" can be viewed on Hasbro's official site, and other episodes can be viewed on the Hub's official site in the US. All of the first season's episodes, as well as all of the second season's episodes that have already aired, can be bought on iTunes if you're lucky enough to live somewhere in the one-third of the world where iTunes sells videos, and viewed through other (less official) sources. On July 4th, the show began airing in the UK on Boomerang, and premiered on Boomerang worldwide soon after. The show's second season premiered on September 17th, 2011, with 26 new episodes scheduled for the run.

Fortunately for its prospects, the show has proven very successful with its target audience as well.

Ironically, some have cited an initial wave of harsh criticism for the show's kids-commercialization aspect with sparking interest in the show, starting with Cartoon Brew's article "The End of the Creator-Driven Era" which sparked initial interest in the show; and more recently with Ms. Magazine writing an article*

which generated hundreds of responses — including the show's creator, Lauren Faust, a feminist.

Leave the Know Your Meme video link on the main page (its wedged in the middle of the info dump) as its a nice summary of the evolution of bronydom without being a, well, info dump for the curious.

I was going to add all that to the Analysis page myself, but I thought I should make a edit request first for the main page.

I'd like the following added to the Something Awful page, at the end of the description, after the mention of The Flash Tub (which by the way is missing a full stop):

"The folks here were also responsible for Doom House."

...Or if you can think of some better wording, be my guest.

(Yes, I made an article for Doom House. It amused me.)

Can Main.Dumbledores Army And The Year Of Darkness be made back into a redirect to Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness? I'm 90% percent sure that we aren't supposed to ever cut main namespace redirects to work pages.

[up]: Are you sure? Are there any orphaned wicks? If not, then there's no real need for a Main page.

Did those. Some of the wicks to Closer to Earth no longer made sense and had to be rewritten or removed.
