Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

Sorry, I can't find the Sqweegel entry anymore. Where was it?

Regarding Star Trek, the duplicate example issue means I'll remove them for now. I also think Morgenthaler's format for the X-Men example is good.

Rewrote the Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil addition a bit since the grammar was odd.

DTH otherwise.

  • Level 26: Dark Origins: This digital novel, by CSI creator Anthony Zuiker, features Sqweegel, real name unknown, the most prolific serial killer in history within the CSI world. Sqweegel is known for incredible preparation and his seeming randomness. Once he locks in on a victim, Sqweegel proceeds to murder them, often after torturing and raping them, with gender being irrelevant to his tastes. Sqweegel initiates the book's plot by sending in a homemade snuff film to the authorities, and proceeds to kidnap three teenagers who tried to illegally tried to buy beer before raping them with himself, a mop handle and a baseball bat. He burns six priests alive and attempts to torture the widows of 9/11 firefighters to death. His true enemy is the investigator Steven Dark, whose foster family was murdered by Sqweegel once Dark came close to catching him years ago. To “punish” Dark for cheating on his wife Sibby, Sqweegel had raped Sibby, possibly conceiving a child which Sqweegel plans to kill, along with raping and killing Sibby. With a body count numbering in the high hundreds and the belief he is an instrument of divine retribution, Sqweegel remains the most terrifying enemy of Dark's career, and is the only known serial killer to receive the classification Level 26 to designate a monster that was previously beyond human comprehension.

Usually for franchises with just one work for a certain media (Disney and Xehanort, or the book and Godzilla), it's on both pages. Also, what about The Ghostbusters thing?

I'd like to add an entry for Story Difficulty Setting to Final Fantasy VII, like this:

  • Story Difficulty Setting: The Steam release featured the option to permanently max out all one's characters in order to skip any and all grinding, ostensibly so the player could more easily enjoy the story, unlock every nook and cranny of the game and see the results of every conceivable side-quest.

I'd also like to add an entry for Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game to the YMMV section . Something to the effect of:

  • Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game: The gameplay was largely unchanged from the aforementioned predecessors, particularly VI, but it was immensely popular for its story, which most critical praise was focused on, particularly for its early usage of the Playing The Player trope and one of the most infamous Player Punches in the medium.

The Internet Counterattack page has a section on Tropes vs. Women in Video Games that is nothing but complaining and spreading bad faith conspiracy theories as fact. In particular, the last two bullet points have been disproven for months and leaving them up as is might actually be legally actionable. It also directly references Gamergate despite the site-wide policy.

Here's my proposed replacement:

  • Tropes vs. Women in Video Games, a feminist critique of video game storytelling, has been subject to a massive backlash from parts of the video game community that misconstrue it as an attack against the hobby. Much of this backlash involves harassment, death threats, doxxing, hacking attempts, and spreading both conspiracy theories and Blatant Lies to smear her reputation. That is all we'll say about that.

If the above is posted (which I hope it is), the Feminist Frequency reference should include the Web Video/ namespace.

Please replace the Hard Target write up at Film F To O with this:

  • Hard Target: Emil Fouchon is a libertarian madman who runs a hunting ring that aims to break what he describes as the government's monopoly on murder. Using a man named Randal Po to recruit homeless veterans, Fouchon and his henchman, Pik Van Cleaf, offer them thousands of dollars if they can survive being hunted by Fouchon's clients—an offer Fouchon has no intention of fullfilling. During the film's opening scenes, Fouchon, Van Cleaf and their client (with help from a team of bikers and huntsmen) run down and murder Douglas Binder. When Douglas's daughter, Natasha, comes looking for him, in alliance with veteran Chance Boudreaux, Fouchon has Randal beaten and mutilated for selecting a man with a family-not out of any moral qualms, but because of the unwanted attention-then chooses Chance's friend Elijah Roper as the target of the next hunt. When the client proves unwilling to finish Elijah, Fouchon kills the client, then has Van Cleaf gun down Elijah in the street. Deciding to move to the next town, Fouchon has Van Cleaf kill Randal, and the coroner they were paying to fake causes of death. When Chance and Natasha get involved, Fouchon decides that they have to die as well, and brings in a number of clients who owe him favours. When Chance uses a rattlesnake to poison one of these men, Fouchon stomps him to death while ranting about how he should "die quieter." When Chance's uncle sets another of his men on fire, Fouchon kills the man himself. As the film approaches its climax, Fouchon, with all of his men dead, stabs Chance's uncle with an arrow, takes Natasha hostage, and finally tries to beat Chance to death with a burning two-by-four.

Bis hier getan, save for the Ghostbusters edit since I am not entirely sure what is being asked here. I got the Star Trek items. Also, that Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game proposed example needs to focus more on the player reaction. Declined the Feminist Frequency thing since that trope is becoming In-Universe only.

Thanks for readding the Star Trek stuff smile
For Ghostbusters, basically you can single-indent the The Real Ghostbusters entry, move it after The Pirates of Dark Water entry, and burn the rest of the tree.

Please add the Franchise/ namespace to the Main.Final Fantasy examples in YMMV.FinalFantasyVII and VideoGame.FinalFantasyVII

Please remove Franchise.Final Fantasy from Wick Namespace Migration, and add it to CompletedMigrations.Franchises as the following.

ETA: Please also remove VideoGame.FinalFantasyVI from Wick Namespace Migration, and add it to CompletedMigrations.VideoGames as the following:

Also on The Bible, Plucky Girl is incorrectly formatted.

Did the Final Fantasy thingies - hopefully I got all the namespace moves right.

The The Bible blank bullet was someone putting the %% commenting out mark after the bullet; I've moved it before the bullet. Plucky Girl was someone using # instead of %; corrected that as well.

Fin qui tutto fatto.

Trope: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/UsefulNotes/HighFunctioningAutism

Edit Reason: Science Marches On

Sources: You can read about the brain structure stuff in Temple Gradin's new book: http://www.amazon.com/Autistic-Brain-Helping-Different-Succeed/dp/0544227735/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419129061&sr=8-1&keywords=temple+grandin+the+autistic+brain Here's a video citing some of the sources I read: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AatBPbgNFak

Edit: Replace "Causes" section with following:

The underlying mechanism of the observed symptoms of autism is currently thought to be significant differences in the structure and function of the brain. These differences vary significantly among persons with autism, meaning each individual can present in very different ways. Brain development is possibly the most complicated part of human development, so a multi-hit hypothesis is most likely. That is, autism is due to the cumulative effect of many different factors on an individual rather then a single controlling cause.

Several factors are known to increase risk of autism. Older age and obesity in either parent increases risk. A family history of autism increases risk. Being male increases risk. Exposure to substances and situations that are known to cause other developmental differences also increase the risk of autism. Auto-immune responses in mother and child increase risk.

Other factors have been decisively ruled out as increasing risk. These include vaccination, parenting style, and parent personality. Exposure to heavy metals may increase risk, but this is considered a minor factor by scientists.

I have the following requests:

Adventure Time: Please cut the Unfortunate Implications entry as it has no cited source and there is no entry on the trope page that can be duplicated.

Monster.Stephen King: Add an extra line between the page quote and the description.

Monster.Film P To Z: For Scanner Cop, change “the deaths of numerous innocent” to “the deaths of numerous innocent cops”.

And I'd like to suggest a small addition to Sinkhole to note how potholed trope names have been used to shoehorn examples, changing the entry to this:

Changing the display text of a trope in a list: This is used to make a trope specific to a situation, e.g. changing Sealed Evil in a Can to Frozen Evil in a Lake. However, doing this messes up alphabetization (does that example go under S or F?), makes it harder to find tropes, causes confusion over what the trope's actual name is, can be used to shoehorn examples, and encourages Zero Context Examples. Just list the trope under its normal title and then expand on it properly.
