There is a voice chat for TVTTVS set up using Ventrilo. It's easy. Just download the client: download site is here. Then tell it you want the server at tvtropes.hostventrilo.net on port 9702

The server can handle up to 20 tropers in a conference.

If you have a problem hooking up, drop a note in this thread and some kindly troper will help you along.

No sweat. Have a look at the OP. We should probably use the tvtropes.org server as the main meeting place, with the other one for overflows or separate topics. The connection is less robust on the second server.

I don't know if that means I have to get Vent set up as quickly as possible or if I should stay away from it. The cuteness must be a sight to behold, but it'd likely reduce me to a pile of squeeing gibberish.

At least get it so you can talk to people.

Heh. I signed on for the first time a few minutes after Matrix made that post (or, at any rate, shortly after I saw it). Purring was attempted as well.

No microphone, but I tried running it anyhow. Got a weird codec-related error message, saw Lull, tinkered with the controls, couldn't quite figure out anything, gave up and quit for now.

Oh well, at least I made a token effort.

Change the codec to Speex, so I can use it on my Mac side, please. Windows users can still use that.

The client-side program is completely free.

So, the Vent server is now somewhat dedicated for TVTTVS? Awesome; I lurk, so now I can contribute...

It's not actually dedicated to the show, no, it's more that the people who frequently show up are also contributors to the show and frequently discuss the show. If it ever becomes an issue, we'll take the show talk to the backup server.

If the eight person limit becomes an issue, we can set up on a solution that isn't limited. May have to pass the hat, though.

Is it a big hat?
