This is the thread for Mabinogi Fantasy Life, so that talk of it doesn't clutter the City Of Heroes thread.

So, I tried the game today. There seems to be a lot of stuff to do. It seems like Runescape - grind + graphics(100) = Mabinogi.

You can even, like, compose music and play it.

Also, fighting is more complex than Runescape.

Today I shore a bunch of sheep, and some guy offered to run me through some dungeon and power level me, but I decided against that. I'd like to progress naturally through the game, learning how to play as I go, instead of just getting to a higher level and being all overwhelmed by not knowing WTF to do.

Oh, by the way, I'm Kallistrate on the uh, what was it.. um, the server whose name starts with R. Ruiani.. Ruaini.. something like that.

Huh. If that's the case, I might check it out.

My title is no longer sticking out of its box, but I couldn't think of anything better to put here.

The only videos I see of it on youtube are people getting together to play Touhou music in there with their ingame instruments.

She may have, yes.

I also see lots of screenies with players of different heights with all sorts of costumes, and yes, Touhou costumes for their player characters.

Apparently, I'm not allowed to play the game because I'm not in the US or Asia.

I played this sometime during their Christmas event last year. I talked to Santa and...got stuck in a Santa suit. It was entertaining but I never really got anywhere.

The last time I played it I kinda just wandered around with no clue as to what I was doing. Hopefully they have a better tutorial now?

Someone told me this game was terrible. I lack the time to see for myself.

I get the feeling it was more of it just not being the kind of game he'd like. I've heard quite a bit of good about it.

Oh I did that too Miijhal. I had trouble finding quests and had difficulty with the combat system for some reason. I spent most of my time leveling my music playing skills instead. In a Santa suit of course. There was someone yelling over chat that you shouldn't click on Santa because of the suit. I missed this message despite it being spammed over chat...

Well, you get a bunch of information at the beginning from Nao, Tin, and Eiry, and you can also talk to Eiry again at any time until level 26, which is when she leaves you, IIRC.

The only thing I'm not liking about this game is the music. Is it just me or do all these Korean games have the same damn music? Whatever it is, it's shit. So, I turned it off and my ears are safe.

Also, for combat, you should also read the book on Defense the guy at the School gives you. Combat is effectively turn-based, but this is only because if you just continually hack at your enemy, you will most likely get pwned, since you weren't using Defense. I, however, haven't done much combat. Too busy SHEARING SHEEP and CHOPPING FIREWOOD!

Looks very interesting, thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Is there a troper gathering of sorts?

No, I'm kind of just doing stuff on my own.

It would be nice to have others around, though. Especially experienced players. I still don't have the hang of combat.

Well, the game is starting to pick up! I'm beginning to get the hang of combat, though it's still difficult at times.

When I did the quest where I had to kill 5 Black Wolves, I died twice, though I rezzed via Nao, so the penalty wasn't much, and the quest XP made up for it.

I also did two quests in the Alby Dungeon.

And I should be learning Icebolt right about the time I can get my hands on some more AP..

Yea, Icebolt was meh until I found out I could stack it 5 times and just unleash it all, then it became a god spell.

@Killersquid: I have to say, not reading things that are going to tell you how shit works is stupid. It is also one of the most common mistakes MMO gamers make.

BTW I am totally going to be trying this out once a couple of conditions get met.

  • My connection gets unthrottled (2 more days!)
  • I get some time off work again (It's exam season, most of the casual employees are students so I'm picking up their hours)

Again with the data mining, dear Aunt?
