![]() Chaotic Lawful
The Lethal Connotation Of Guns And Others
Went through YKTTW, but got 0 replies. There's only one straight example and one aversion.
Still, it does look like a legitimate trope. And ideas on fixing it?
No story truly starts until a naked man climbs off his sister long enough to defenestrate a 6 year old boy. - Oscredwin
![]() I don't actually think that is an example of what is written because there are no actual guns in the game (though there are lasers). The trope is written fairly cleary but it seems rather like avoiding the perilous political implications rather than handling them straight on.
So I'd say, it has no clear demonstrative examples. Plus it could definately do with a better name and if the OP couldn't match up the example to the trope...
Cut List it. It needs work on everything.

![]() Agreed. There's an idea there, but the main wiki is no place to nurture an idea. Besides, I suspect that there's some Age Myopia at work as well — Bugs Bunny cartoons certainly never tool guns more seriously than explosives.
Speaking of which — we have Moral Myopia, Fan Myopia, and Opinion Myopia. Should I YKTTW Age Myopia for cases where someone says "this always/never happens, but only because they're old enough/too young to remember far enough back to when the opposite was true?
If I had a piece of chalk, I'd work it out on a wall, if I had a wall.
![]() It occured to me as I put it on the Cut List that perhaps the page was made in response to a general trend- Bug Bunny was listed as an aversion so I'm thinking somebody thought "Well, you wouldn't have that nowadays. Guns are always Serious Business but then again explosions never are" without thinking of any actual example that fits in truly with the description because it shouldn't actually exist. Something which treats explosions as obviously cartoony wouldn't approach such serious business and headaches that using a gun can bring. Then again, there are probably quite a few things that have explosions, they'll have weapons of some sort- you may ask Where Did They Get Lasers- and they'll treat them seriously but they'll avoid guns which fits into the page idea, in a way, but example by example would look different to how it would sound as described now.
In short- the page seems to describe the overall trend of 90s cartoons but actually, this doesn't form a trope becasuse it doesn't turn up as a single device in the writing.
Throw in that Age Myopia problem where it gets shown up as a rather more time specific problem and this would have to be more like a sidepoint on a page about Censorship or Age Ratings.
Age Myopia- do it. Do it real good.

The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.
