There has been a request to lock the page as inactive, clocking.
I made a blank page action crowner here.
Now that crowner's hooked, I'll add to it the options suggested in this thread. I hope I'll be able to word them correctly.

Bumping this to get more input.
If you don't mind technical, I could probably draft a Useful Notes page on how synthesisers work.
Accidental mistakes are forgivable, intentional ones are not.Well that sounds more interesting and worthwhile than the personal-preference-dressed-up-like-it's-a-trope that is Synthesizeritis.
(I don't know exactly what there is to be said, but I've always found it interesting how the technical limits of electronic music informed the "sound" of recent pop-musical eras. It's like there are period-specific tropes, but because they are about the sound, well I dunno how they could be put into words.)

Now that's a page I could see the merit of.
I think that could be expanded; the technical limitations of any era have defined the sound of said era in many cases. I've heard the adage that "Art is made in the boundaries," music is no exception.
I don't know how much of that is worthy of a trope, mind you (scholarly paper, yes; trope... not so sure).
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Do you think we have a consensus here?
Why the hell was the cut declined?
I don't know. Consensus is to cut it. Did you link to this thread and remove the wiks going to the page?
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickWorking on the latter. Want to help?
I'll help with the wicks.
I can help with the Useful Notes on how synthesisers work; I actually had one written up a while ago, but I don't think I still have my draft of it.
online since 1993 | huge retrocomputing and TV nerd | lee4hmz.info (under construction) | heapershangout.comThe cut request was declined again. What gives?
Who the hell's declining the cut? The consensus couldn't be more obvious.
Are you linking to this discussion in your cut reason?
My troper wallYou aren't actually linking to the TRS thread. Just mentioning it. You need to include a link.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThat really shouldn't matter should it? It takes all of two steps to click on the trope name and the TRS thread.
it's been declined again, despite me deleting all links to the wicks.
Keeper of The Celestial FlameActually looking at the history, one of the requests DID have the thread. I think the Cutmasters just have an aversion to reading threads.

The page was finally cut. We can close this thread now. Quick question, though, should this page go on the Permanent Red Link Club?
I think that "exclusive" club is only used when there is significant issues beyond simply a bad page - like if people keep trying to recreate it after it's been cut or the like.
We may want to use the name again in the future for a different trope; thus, we don't want to completely remove it from circulation unless we find that trying to use it will be an utter disaster. In this case, I find it unlikely that this one will be a disaster.
Yes, it's also unlikely to be used for a different, better trope, but that alone isn't reason to make the red link permanent.

Crown Description:
Right now, this page is a mix of objective information about synths and subjective opinions about how synths are bad. We have to decide what direction to take the page in. Another problem is the name, which has negative connotations to it that makes this sound like a "bad trope" even though it is currently objective.
The sandbox article is trying to make some points. The taste judgment that some folks make that old synth sound horrible and dated isn't useful as a trope. Try the sandbox article again. I know it's short but I had a go at (briefly) outlining a couple of points: early works with lots of electronic instruments had something of a common artistic aim at heart — but then electronic music became rich, diverse and in some sense invisible because it is so ubiquitous. That's not bashing, that might be interesting to some folks — it's at least a kernel wiki magic might take somewhere worthwhile.
