Chatterbox - Anime & Manga :

Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls is another thing that should never have seen the light of day.

Meh, I don't mind either.

Seriosuly, I don't get whats wrong with them and why everyone acts like it's so sickening and yet hentai and porn get way with it.

Sure, they are meant to be that way, but it's not much different.

What do you think she's confused about?
Are we seriously discussing how to get people off with anime?

(Talk about the perfect avatar for that comment...)

I guess so... The problem is, each person has a different "line" that they don't want crossed and the conversation has turned to where that line should be. An inherently improbable thing to reach a conclusion on.

[up][up]Uhh... hmm... [hands keyboard over to the family feminist who saw as much as I did]

Hi, this is Belian's sister here! He can't really articulate what's so disturbing about Busou Shinki but I can sure try for him.

I think the problem is— yeah, you see this kind of stuff in porn and hentai. And honestly it's pretty gross there, too! But this isn't a porno or a hentai; from what I've seen of online descriptions, it seems to almost be a merchandise show, like, IDK, Transformers or something! It's based on action figures that are cool little fighting machines— if it weren't for the fact that these machines are given a feminine shape, it would seem like another Transformers, or Yu-Gi-Oh!, or what-have-you.

And then you start watching the show, and... well, in the opening fight there was underboob, and I, personally, was like, "siiiigh, they're little dolls, I guess you can get away with stupid clothing if they're made of plastic."

And then there's the opening, where those fake plastic boobs are suddenly all sproingy, and I was like, "Oh."

And theeeen there's the post-opening shot that is zoomed in on the little robot servant fighter girl's crotch and thighs rubbing against each other, and I was like, "... ohhhhh."

I don't think it's terribly weird to go, "wait, what the hell, this is blatant fetish bait!" to a show that doesn't seem to have been advertised as such, and then go, "I am not in this for gettin' boners, I was hoping this would be... you know, an action fighting show, this is gross, I'm outie. /ollies into the sun." It seems like a pretty natural progression of things to me— like, say, if someone sat down to watch Strike Witches because they're an aviation fan and wound up going NOPE. You got me?

[/takes keyboard back]

Good luck following her thought process... I know I get lost sometimes. Also, yes, that "ollies" comment is related to MSPA.

Surprisingly funny to see your online persona (voluntarily) hijacked.

But that sounds appropriately scathing. If I had actually intended to watch Busou Shiki I now wouldn't.

Meh, I guess I'm just different from most other people then, since I find the idea of it being completely disgusting as being rather prudish, but my standards are different, I guess.

For the record: I read/watch a number of VERY echi titles (the only thing in Hagure Yūsha no Estetica that bothered me was his actions when they were trapped in the gym storage room). As my sister said, my main problem was coming into Busou Shinki with the expectation of them being "dolls with personalities." If the girl had "turned on" instead of "erotically waking up" (with the crotch/thigh shot so you couldn't possibly miss it), I probably would have been fine. Having the characters be "little programed mass-produced slave girls" was just too much.

[up][up]Prudish is kind of a not-very-useful descriptor; "too sexually inhibited for my taste"?

As I said, I don't mind erotica or porn. I do mind objectification, I do mind a show that forces the viewer into an objectifying perspective, and I do mind the influence this may have on the perspective people, especially young, malleable people, take in regards to their fellow human beings.

Funi's finally announced their simulcast lineup for this season: Jormungand Perfect Order, Code:Breaker, Kamisama Kiss, Psycho-Pass, Robotics;Notes, and Oni Ai.

Gunpla is amazing!
[up][up]

For me its just cliche and eye rolling.

Also I don't know what else to watch this season. I'm only watching Hidamari and Jojo's.

Nothing else really interests me.

Phantom Blood, to be specific. The first episode aired, hmm, last week.

Phantom Blood... was that the first or the second arc?

First arc. It'd make sense they'd be starting from the beginning despite its current length.

Unless they plan to keep this show running for the next decade, I'll bet they're gonna skip the less interesting parts though.

[up]Why not? It's 109 tomes. Adapting this will be awesome, especially if there is no filler. At the rate of one episode per tome, this should go smoothly.

[up]Sorry to burst your bubble, but given that it's airing at 12:30 a.m., that won't come close to happening without multiple seasons since continuous Long Runners don't tend to air at Otaku O'Clock. Even then, the longest anime that aired during Otaku O'Clock that I can think of would be Shakugan no Shana and that clocked in at 72 episodes over 3 separate seasons. Since, it's an anniversary comemorative series, there probably won't be a season 2 unless the DVD / Blu-Ray sales are very impressive.

In other news, Shonen Jump Alpha will move to a simultaneous model soon.note  Not to be even more cynical, but I can't help but worry that something like Sentai's To Love-Ru Darkness debacle will happen eventually with this. Hopefully it won't, but I can't help but worry.

Jojo has an early morning time slot

Okay, that I was not aware of. A shame.

The BoltBeam screwer returns this November!
Regarding Busou Shinki, I'm admittedly more interested in the robot fights than in the robot girls themselves. I especially like how in that opening fight that the scenery would shift, and that it could affect the fight.

At the moment, though, I doubt I'll be following it, due to Magi and Girls und Panzer having strong first episodes and taking up spots in my list of 10 to follow.

I am now caught up with Tegami Bachi.

I love it. I mean, I liked it from the beginning, but it's gotten really exciting. Anyone know how often it updates?

Well, I watched through Gankutsuou.

I did like it mostly, didn't like the art but found it tolerable. Characters were really good. My main problem is that certain elements like the IN SPACE! part, the mecha and Gankutsuou itself can feel quite extraneous to the plot most of the time (like it could work better without them).

The main thing I don't understand is why Albert trusts the count so much. I mean, his idealism is one of the best things about the series and seeing him coming face to face with harsh realities he never knew existed stikes pretty close to home with me, but even so I can't understand why he believes the guy over his own friends.

Well, the ending (while good) didn't have quite as much of a payoff as I had hoped, and all in all it's left me feeling a little depressed.

I'm going to try to find something happy and/or idealistic to watch to cheer me up.

[up][up]Too long. I've accidentally dropped it a couple of times and had to re-read a few chapters each time to get back on track. I'm not sure it even comes out every two months.

[up][up]Halo Effect. The count is more elegant, more smart, more handsome than anyone. Therefore, he is better and nicer and wiser and more trustworthy.
