Sad Girl in Whoa.
I don't listen much to folk metal, but I consider The Gathering Wilderness and Bergtatt to be awesome. Korpiklaani are just ridiculous, though. When I was on this year's class trip, two of my buds organized a 5PM tea party (in Israel... talk about pretentious) while blasting those guys' music from their iDock. I started feeling rather unsettled, but thankfully the tea party migrated to another room.

I love bagpipes and shit, but they're just taking it way too far.

Speaking of Ulver, I love Bergtatt as well, along with the next two albums. I've listened to some of Blood Inside, from their newer style, and that wasn't very good.

I've been trying to get into more kinds of metal lately, and discovered that I really, really like Testament and Morbid Angel. I need to listen to more death metal, SOON!

I also got two Mayhem songs off LimeWire I MEAN BOUGHT THEM LEGALLY, just to see what all the fuss is about. At the risk of sending Xexzyl into berserk mode, "Freezing Moon" from Der Mysteriis Dom Santhanas (is that how you spell it?) was grating and hard to listen to, and "Deconsecrate" from Ordo ad Chao was a lot better and doesn't leave a ringing in my ears for a long period of time.

^black metal vocals take some getting used to, especially Atilla's.

Umm... Attila was singing on Ordo ad Chao as well. Have his vocals changed at all? I think they sounded different there.

Ah, yes, Mayhem. You know, I think they should make a movie about all of Mayhem's controversy. That would be an awesome movie. But who would play Varg Vikernes?

Overall, I've never been that fussed on black metal, though there are a few bands from the genre I like.

Yon Troper: I can recommend some pretty good death metal bands for you. I don't know if you've heard any of these, but:
  • Death
  • Deicide
  • Cannibal Corpse
  • Possessed
  • Autopsy
  • Obituary
  • Nile
  • Suffocation
  • Dying Fetus

Kvlt.
Lord Necronus: Primordial are....intense.

As for your excellent Death Metal recommendations for Yon Troper, allow me to add:

  • Morbid Angel
  • Atheist
  • Hail of Bullets
  • Pestilence
  • Nocturnus

I need some Mammal Sauce..

Well, might as well give even more recommendations.

  • Cynic
  • Mortification
  • In Flames
  • At the Gates
  • Arch Enemy
  • Dark Tranquillity
  • Children of Bodom
  • Carcass (they count)
  • Napalm Death (they also count)
  • Behemoth
  • Gorefest
  • Vader

Also, an anti-recommendation: do not listen to Waking the Cadaver. I'm sorry, but they're the only death metal band I'd say are total shit.

Meh, still counts. We're still agreed that Waking the Cadaver are a shit band, though, right? That's all that matters.

I'm still having trouble appreciating DMDS to its fullest. Actually, at this point I prefer Ordo Ad Chao.

I second At the Gates. And the anti-recommendation about Waking the Cadaver. I like deathcore and I hate them. Yes, yes, I like shitty music. Hush, you.

Honestly, deathcore isn't that bad as a genre. I've never got the hate that people have for it. Sure, Cadaver suck (as everyone knows), and Bring Me the Horizon are a bit crap, but aside from that, deathcore's not too bad.

On the flipside, however, Job for a Cowboy are the only really, really good deathcore band I can think of.

That would be true, save for the fact that they don't play Deathcore anymore. Only their EP was Deathcore, starting with their first album they pretty much played Tech Death through and through. Some -core vocals remain though.

Um. That is... a lot of bands. I've already got Morbid Angel, Cynic, Behemoth, Death and Napalm Death. I'd go and get them right now, but the computer that has LimeWire I MEAN A LEGAL DOWNLOADING SYSTEM is having its hard disk reformatted.

And yeah, Job for a Cowboy is the only deathcore band worth listening to, at all, but I wouldn't say that they were really deathcore any more. And on the flipside, Suicide Silence is probably my least favourite metal band. Check out the 101 Rules of Deathcore on Metal Storm, it's got them down pat. I also don't like the modern-day melodic metalcore bands like Killswitch Engage, but are the old-style metalcore bands like Earth Crisis and Integrity any good?

I'd say so, but of course Your Mileage May Vary, because I like Killswitch Engage a lot too.

The Sepultura and Megadeth ones are great. Heard In Flames' Subterranean was good, too.

Maybe Mastodon's album is good, it's praised by hipsters as always. To be honest, I don't really understand why the hype about Leviathan, but eh.

Second the Sepultura album. I would also wholeheartedly recommend the ones by Anthrax and Judas Priest.

Despised Icon I personally dislike, but, of course, Your Mileage May Vary.

Sabbath, Priest, Mastodon, Megadeth, Sepultura.

But many of those on that list I haven't even heard, so don't take me over-seriously.

I would more recommend Kreator's Pleasure to Kill and Warbringer's War Without End but those are fine, too. Seriously though, if you don't have Pleasure to Kill, get it, it's absolutely amazing in all ways possible.

Also I enjoyed Crack the Skye a lot.

You buy music on iTunes? tongue

I'll copy the ones I've actually listened to that are worth money:
  • Dark Tranquility[sic]: Projector
  • Goregoroth[sic]: Pentagram
  • In Flames: Subterranean
  • Marduk: Panzer Division [Marduk] disregard that I suck cocks
  • Megadeth: Rust in Peace (Remaster)
  • Stratovarius: Polaris
  • Wolves in the Throneroom[sic]: Black Cascade

You all will have to help him out with a lot of the classics, I haven't heard many of them.

Mastodon is incredibly overrated, but still pretty decent.
