All's I know about it is the lead character is voiced by Jay Baruchel, who is a kind of awesome. Oh, I also know that one of the storyboarders from Avatar: The Last Airbender helped with the film.

Thanks for the all fish!

Haven't seen it yet, going this weekend.

I'm horribly disappointed in the toy merchandise I've seen so far, though. Ever since I saw the trailer, I've been looking forward to the merch. I want plushie or a figure toy of little black dragon("Toothless", per the Other Wiki).

Everything I've seen in stores so far is just horrible.

The Toothless toy and plushies either look mentally deficient, or just mean/evil. They lack the mischievious expressions and intelligent cute-ness of the trailer previews. On top of which, it all looks poorly made. The plushies all had loose strings and busted seams, and the plastic toys weren't well-molded or well painted. I saw one plastic figure that didn't even have the flashing trimmed off the mold seams, ridges of thin flat plastic that stuck out horribly.

Disappointing. sad

I dunno... The commercials make it look kinda dull... But I have seen plenty of movies where trailers did them no justice, so who knows?

Read some reviews and everyone is saying the 3D is better then Avatar.

You know I'm seeing it.

I saw it in the previews for James Cameron's Avatar, and it looks pretty good. I've never read the series, so I can't make comparisons, but it looks like something I'd like. Toothless may have been what sold me, I can't be sure.

My family loves Craig Ferguson, so I'll probably be seeing this. (I like him too, but I don't watch as often.)

I am amused by the "better then Avatar 3D" I would find it very funny if it is. Anyone seen it yet?

Also I like the irony of the Hispanic (somewhat larger) America whatever her last name is, playing the rail thin blond hair blued eyed chick.

You will never love a women as much as George Lucas hates his fans.

My friends and I went to go see the movie last night. It was pretty predictable but quite enjoyable - basically, don't expect to be surprised by the plot, since chances are you're going to know exactly where the plot is going to go, but it's generally cool enough and fun enough to make up for it. The characters don't really get too much development, but they're pretty likable all around, and I personally grew pretty fond of them. It was an enjoyable watch and I'd recommend the movie to pretty much anyone who thinks they might enjoy it.

The 3D was pretty good. My friend said that it was similar to how Avatar did it, in that it was more immersive than dramatic. Rather than trying to constantly throw things in your face, it tries to just put you into this world, and for that, it works pretty well. When it's just characters talking, you'll prolly forget you're even watching it IN 3D, but once you get to a scene involving flying or fighting or something, you'll be like "OH WHOA YEAH okay that's cool"

Also, there was a trailer for Toy Story 3 before the movie. I terrified by friends when it ended by throwing up my arms and yelling "ALL HAIL PIXAR, KING OF MOVIES". I regret nothing.

I am genuinely impressed with the reviews—97% is a damn high score. I sort of wanted to see this anyway, especially since Chris Sanders is involved, but that pretty much seals it. Now let's hope the local Harkins doesn't continue its "tradition" of royally screwing up every time I go to see something there.

I nerdraged about the adaption decay oh so evident from the trailer.

But for some reason, it got high reviews.

I am going to see it this week to give it a second chance. Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs impressed me. Who knows?

Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 97%, while Metacritic gives it a 73.

Looks like almost all the critics thought it was a decent movie.

It was pretty good. Don't know if it was as good as Kung Fu Panda, but it's definitely better than most of what I see from Dreamworks. Probably because it didn't seem like it was trying to be cool or modern. It just told its story.

One thing that was really interesting about it was that it was the first western or CG animated movie I've seen in a long time that was an action/adventure first. Most of the time it's Family Comedy set in an action/adventure backdrop or something, but this was more like a straight up adventure flick with some comedy relief in it. Which is neat. We need more of them—I have too little to compare it to.

This has been pointed out by many people, but Toothless looks like Stitch. You can definitely see Chris Sanders' influence in the whole thing. Character and monster designs were interesting even when they weren't pretty, and a changeup from Dreamworks' usual fare, which pleases me because I'm not a big fan of Dreamworks most of the time. Again, I imagine we can thank Sanders for that.

Plot wasn't anything we haven't seen before, but it was pulled off well enough to make up for that. Wasn't really surprised by much that happened, though something that happened in the ending was a bit different from what you normally get out of this sort of flick. But I wasn't bored by it, because it was executed well enough to make up for that. They didn't treat it like you should be surprised by any of it, y'know? The plot was mostly there to give you an excuse to watch vikings and dragons be cool, and they did that quite well.

I suspect the Rotten Tomatoes score will go down after the initial excitement of it coming out, but not by very much. It's a pretty good movie.

I hope it does really well, though. A successful animated action/adventure flick could mean we get more like that, and I'm definitely in favor of more like this.

Just saw it, thought it was kind of badass. At some points you forget its animated, because the background CG is just that good.

I just got back. I loved it. The setting wasn't distracting. The scenery was beautiful. The characters were fun and distinct(Craig Ferguson did a kick-ass job as Gobber). Awesome.

I thought it was a fun film and well worth paying for the over-priced movie tickets.

I also love to pieces that it gave a plausible reason for a Dragon Rider  *

set-up. Toothless needing Hiccup to manipulate his prosthetic fin so he could fly was pretty cool from my perspective.

I also loved the dragon designs. With just a small change in expression they could go from curious and intelligent to frightening and bestial.

^Yeah, that's why I hate the whole dragons = smartest things in the universe trope. These dragons were much more bestial, so people riding them made some sense.

Well you can have smart dragons being ridden by humans if you think out some justification for it, and the consequences of it. Like in the Pern series where the dragons were engineered to be the way they are. Or in Temeraire series where the dragons are treated as living weapons by their country's militaries and tension arises from them not being treated as people despite being just as smart.

^I guess the whole "we are allies not master and mount" thing can work, problem is its usually done in a bad way. I mean, its not like soldiers go around piggybacking on each other, yet this is how most dragonriders are portrayed - the dragon can talk, have centuries of experience, and often be a strategic genius, yet there she will be, stuck with some young boy on her back, and following his orders without question, all the while unconcerned with the fact that the dragon's performance would be better without having to worry about her rider's safety. And yes, the fact that it is almost always a man riding (a.k.a. dominating and enslaving) a female dragon, and all of the Unfortunate Implications of this, does not escape me.

All that I'm trying to say is, if you are going to subject your impossibly smart dragon to serving as a lowly mount, there had better be a damn good reason for it.
