More like a third, most of the posts in that thread are explaining the never ending pile of logical fallacies.

Our brains easily accept the concept of spirit and even the smartest and most rational of us at times seem to grant inanimate objects wills and desires. I believe that is not because there really are spirits inside cars and computers and orange juice cartons that want to thwart us, it is simply that our brains are wired up to think in that way because it is often a useful short cut that allows us to find a solution quickly.

Fucking electronics and orange juice, how do they work?

Of course religious ideas do not have minds, but just like termites, imagining that they do helps us to defeat them.
Wait, who says that termites don't have minds?

I really hope I see this guy on the news, being arrested for attempting to punch the Jesus out of some bibles.

Specifically this bit:
The United States is based on having freedom of religion, speech, etc, which means you can believe in God any way you want . . . but you must believe. I don't recall freedom of religion meaning no religion.

I'm pretty sure the Framers intended the Constitution to evolve with time.

Not for people's lifestyles to be slavishly chained to the word of the meta-law.

Given their forward-thinking attitude toward things, I wouldn't be surprised if they would like the idea of "do what's right, and then wait for the law to catch up", to quote Thurgood Marshall.

You gotta get yourself some marble columns
Almost every instance of the genetic fallacy or the (related) etymological fallacy is, but the two winners that I've seen:
  • For paranoia, the person who refused to use the word pudenda because that means you're ashamed of your genitals, and refused to use the word vagina because that means you reduce it to something things are thrust into.
  • For pettiness, the person, old enough to know better, who took exception to "have a nice day," not because it's supposedly insincere (like that matters) or because it's formulaic, but because nice is from the Latin nescire, which means "to be ignorant."

Just got back from a several-hour discussion of gender roles (about complementarianism, naturally) in which points were raised like "Men are just better at certain things," "If women are in leadership then men won't aspire to those positions," "It hasn't been a problem for centuries, so why is it a problem now?" and "I can't think of a single possible benefit of allowing women to be leaders."
How did you answer these statements?

I listed about 1.5 million answers to the last question and, upon receiving a total lack of comprehension, gave up.

A complementarian (actually a pair of them). We were talking about church leadership specifically, but their view really rapidly leads to unfortunate implications like "women shouldn't be able to vote."
