I have absolutely no idea.
Frieza admits that he made the whole "Five Minutes" thing up, apparently... I think I read that somewhere on this wiki.
I think no one was lending energy to Goku during that fight, so he couldn't use his Spirit Bomb.
^^ Doesn't that count as a Lampshade Hanging of Padding and Inaction Sequence? (And possibly Arc Fatigue?)
"Allah may guide their bullets, but Jesus helps those who aim down the sights."Guess so.
I'm loving this version of Freeza - he's like the original but he's so completely casually amused about being sociopathic. And really, he's not all that different, it's just really funny now. Really, all of Zarbon's best scenes are the ones where Freeza's threatening him and the only reason I'm sad he's gone is because it means the two of them can't have another scene like that.
And I watched a few episodes of the show, particularly the Nappa episodes... honestly, even if I'd never seen DBZ Abridged, I never noticed the first time around how completely hilarious Nappa is. I mean, thinking about it, the only thing DBZ Abridged added was making him say hilariously uncomfortable things and mess with Vegeta more than he did originally, but he was still friggin hilariously dumb and Blood Knighty
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. It really is pretty amazing how close to the original plot and spirit this series is, probably more so than most Abridged Serieses. (?) The voices being damn near spot-on helps.
I don't think DBZ ever really took itself that seriously, anyway.

Certain lines in the show became a lot funnier after watching the series, though.
- Goku on the way to save everyone from Nappa: "Where are they? Yeah, I can feel them. Three big powers... and a little one."
- Me: Yeah... that'd be Krillin.
Still, just like when I was watching the regular show, I'm hoping Krillin catches a break eventually, even though it's likely he won't. They're going to play up the Butt-Monkey angle till it's hurts I bet, and the only break Krillin gets after nearly killing Freeza that one time really is marrying #18.
And the obvious gag there is making 18 into even more of a bitch so that his marriage is completely miserable (though he just sits and takes it as usual).
Still, they're really good at making twists with characterization - I bet instead #18's personality turns out to be ironically the most diabetes inducingly nice person in the world (as an ironic gag to those who watched the show), and Krillin and 18 end up being the only people to have a functioning relationship without someone being crazy.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Goku: eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Fight smart, not fair."I promise that I won't go anywhere near- CLICK! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" gasp "EEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
I have a message from another time...An amusing twist - if, as Known Unknown suggests, they do decide to make 18 deeply, deeply unpleasant, she and Krillin are nevertheless Happily Married simply because it's still far better than what the poor guy's been through up to that point.
What's precedent ever done for us?In the series, 18 is actually a bit of a bitch and Anti-Hero, who gets a little Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy about the fighting tournament (making Krillin duel her for his breakfast) and eventually ends up taking a biig payment from Hercule to take a dive.
She's pretty awesome, really.
Christ, Vegeta is scary when he's pissed.

Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.^^ She's definitely a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, though. The obvious gag would be to make her a completely unrepentant shrew with no redeeming qualities, so Krillin can play the miserable henpecked husband.
The not so obvious gag would be to make her ridiculously, unrepentantly, diabetes-inducingly nice. Because to anyone who watched the show it'd be completely hilarious, and to anyone who didn't... well, it's about time Krillin got some respect, right? Right?
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Speaking of future characterization, it seems like future Trunks (no pun intended) is gonna have some daddy issues, not that he doesn't already have them in canon.
I can't have you close, so I become a ghost and I watch you, I watch you.^^^ Not as scary as pissed off Gohan. I look forward to his Superpowered Evil Side.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.True true. Still a scary as heck scene though, Lani must've been popping blood vessels of his own with all that screaming.
"I need an adult..." "I AM an adult!" Loved that running joke.XD

^ Krillin pulled it off best. Y'know, for someone who gets no respect, he's pretty cool.
Also: Wakka wakka!

"Sucks, doesn't it?"

Also, Vegeta is one scary mofo.
My favourite episode so far. I loved Gohan and Vegeta's conversation.

"Allah may guide their bullets, but Jesus helps those who aim down the sights."
Wasn't that intentional, though? Like, Goku (for some reason that I cant remember) couldn't power up?
