Man, the animation on Cleopatra. [lol] I get that this artstyle won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I kinda like it, if only because it resembles my own style of drawing.

It reminds me of Asterix' Cleopatra. Especially with the more cartoonish art style.

It seems that each civ will have two sets of unique traits— one set for the civ itself, one geared towards the leader. (Some have speculated that they're bringing back multiple leaders per civ, but this remains to be seen.)

- America's set is a UA ("Founding Fathers", requiring less time to earn government legacy bonuses), a UU (P-51 Mustang, a fighter craft with more range and a bonus against other fighters), and a UB (Film Studio, which gives a higher tourism boost in the modern era).
- Roosevelt brings to the table a UA (combat bonus for fighting on the "home" continent), a UU (Rough Rider, a cavalry with lower maintenance cost, effective on hills, and culture from kills on the home continent), and some sort of tourism boost to National Park tiles.

Other tidbits that have trickled in this past week:

- City-states are befriended using Envoys. Each city-state has a unique perk to offer to its ally; Zanzibar gives unique luxuries (Cinnamon, Cloves), Jerusalem converts to your religion and exerts the same pressure as a holy city, etc.
- When attacking a city, its walls must be beaten before the city itself can be captured.
- There are now at least three religious units: Missionaries, Inquisitors, and Apostles. No idea what they do yet.
- A German gaming magazine may have revealed the Japanese civ's leader: Hōjō Tokimune

So does that mean it's possible for one civ to have multiple leaders, each of which has a unique trait set to be combined with their respective civ's unique trait set?

The envoy mechanic seems to be lifted from the Vox Populi mod pack for Civ V. Hmm, wonder how the modding community will react to this...

I'm guessing that Apostles are a representation of citizens who don't follow the civ's state religion. They could be followers of other world religions, pagans (Pantheon believers assuming there are still pantheon beliefs just like in Civ V), or agnostics and atheists (citizens who are excluded from all the aforementioned groups).

Possible, yes, but there is not any confirmation. At the very least, doing modded leaders should be relatively straightforward.

I've seen speculation that they might just allow weird custom games where you mix and match leaders and civs. Like, Roosevelt leading Russia or whatever.

Cleo's got her famous nose, yay! Was worried she'd just be a generic sexbomb.

Procedural question: is there any reason to make a separate topic for Civ VI, or are the games similar enough in scope that we can keep (and rename) this one? I'm leaning towards the latter, in which case we should rename it "Civilization Franchise".

[up] Technically Beyond Earth is part of the Franchise as well, but it has its own thread and is mechanically fairly similar to V. It might be an idea to spin off a Civ VI thread closer to release date.

Well, how about making this a general Civ thread?

Works for me.

General Civilization Series + Series Spinoffs Like Beyond Earth and Starships and Test of Time and...

Okay, maybe it'll need a shorter name...

"Civilization series and spinoffs" should be good enough.

Does Alpha Centauri count as a spinoff?

I know Beyond Earth exists but it doesn't have the factions and charm of Alpha Centauri.

We already have a thread titled "Sid Meier's Civilization Series", actually. But it's been rather inactive before it died off in 2014, from what I can see.

New gameplay video, narrated by Sean Bean. If this means that Sean Bean is the Civ 6 narrator, then he's finally found a role where he can't be killed.

Edit: I renamed the topic to "Sid Meier's Civilization Series (Main Titles)", for clarity.

[up] Spartacus has a special rule where multiple players (human or AI) can select him and if one of them falls the other(s) chime in and go "No, I'm Spartacus!"

I like how, in that E3 video, musketmen and cannons are getting run over by tanks and infantry. Not exactly fair, using tech from two eras later.

Sean Bean didn't die in The Martian!

He was forced to commit career suicide though.

I know that sustaining hype is a big part of the marketing of games, but damn if it isn't annoying to get all these tiny dribs and drabs handed out.
