Yeah, I was about to post this, with the note that: "It's official. I am not allowed to have free time."

Probably just as well my current computer is too old for it, because it would ruin my life.

Still, do want.
You've lost. You're the Bomb Squad after the bomb's gone off. I'm the blast ongoing.
Jonah Falcon
The game features PLAY BY EMAIL. I doubt your PC will be too old for it.

Oh, and you get EIGHTEEN civs to choose from.

I still don't know what FFA is supposed to stand for.

Anyway, I'm still playing IV. Can't wait for this.

If it's Brian Reynolds or Sid Meier, I'm excited. It's the latter, so I'm excited. :)

I'm still playing Civ IV and the two expansions, too.

As long as they get Leonard Nimoy again...

I don't know if they will or not—they didn't get him back for the new techs in BTS. Maybe that's just because there were only a handful and they didn't want to have to pay for him to come in and record like ten lines of dialogue.

...I've got my fingers crossed, though. I really don't care for Sid's voice overs.

Yeah, Sid sounds like a high school nerd to me.

I guess you can't be perfect in everything.

I don't quite play Civ IV anymore, but that's only because I practically spent two years of my life in that game.

I had a mod called Real Epic, which slowed the technology discovery speed to like one twentieth of what's normal. I could actually have a whole war in between two technologies. That was lovely.

Did that press release include a huge disclaimer about how the developers do not actually know the future with certainty? It makes me sad that we need that.

BEC is my copilot
^^It would be nice if they had a "technology is slowed down but units are built at a reasonable pace" speed. Wonders and buildings should still take several years to build, though. Never made sense to me how in the time it takes to train an archer you could build Stonehenge (that is, if there was a source of Stone about).

They take a ton of turns, not years. You might notice in the beginning, turns are 50 years. So taking 30 turns to build Stonehenge, and 50-80 turns to build The Pyramids...

But it also takes 20 years to train an archer, so it still doesn't make sense.

He has to be born, raised and trained. I assume soldiers are trained from birth in the Civ-verse.

Train an effective army of archers. It's an icon representing armies. Or at least squadrons.

How could you train a squad of marines in half a year then? Cloning? The time scale thing just doesn't make much sense in terms of training units.

Also, you can somehow have a self-sufficient squad of warriors survive in the wild for the entirety of human history. Obviously Gameplay and Story Segregation are in play here.

Just like the same leaders ruling a country from the beginning of history until the end of the game.
