I'm really bad at figuring out voices for my characters, personally. I know what accents they have thanks to spending far too much time reading the trope pages for accents (both British and American), but besides that I don't really have anything else. I have three characters that I did find voices for by sheer coincidence, but it's not something I spend a lot of time thinking about.

Honestly? I'd get Vanessa Carlton to voice two of mine (One's based off the other). She's got the right reedy, girlish yet grown-up voice. Not sure about Matt. I know his singing voice sounds roughly equivalent to this (but in English), but I don't know of any actors or voice actors who are equivalent (and that clip's a voice-altered one, so even the original vocalist wouldn't work).

Most of the other characters, I'd need to do some more research on American voices. I know seiyuus half-decently, but not Americans.

I don't know many actors, let alone voice actors, and I've never thought about this kind of thing anyway. So generally speaking, I have no idea. However, I do know that I would want Tim Curry for Evil Alex, because it's his "thing".

I also haven't the slightest clue, for the same reasons.

If I'd meant for them to be voiced, they'd be very different people.

Except for the guy with his own page, I quite honestly have no idea who any of them are.

No one is going to voice my characters. Let's be realistic, now.

[up]Why on earth would a forum as choked with speculative fiction as this want to be realistic?

-We Are Our Traveling Avatars-

Steve Blum- Rex The Universal Cop and Pokemon Trainer -Average sound, average man, Blum is known for doing a lot of voices, so someone who sounds like someone you could relate to.

Dave Wittenberg- Kip the Intelligent Mudkip -He has quite a attitude when he works with his partner Rex, and I always like Dave's voice as Kakashi, it seemed like a good choice

Vic Mignogna- Emcee, The Worlds Greatest Host -He is creepy, but a gentlemen at that, owner of The Kit Kat Club, and leader of the Cabaret, he is a villain who bases his crimes on musicals, so he has to be able to sing.

I don't think in voices, so just thinking what my characters sound like is very hard for me to picture.

Hmm...this is a very fascinating question. I never thought about this much, but my main character will be voiced by a female VA, that's for sure.

Hm...

  • Ryan: I always imagine him sounding like me, but then I remember he's more than double my age. I'd probably go with Kevin Spacey.
  • Seth: This one's easy. Cillian Murphy, John Malkovich, or any other master of the Creepy Monotone. He talks like this ALL THE TIME.
  • Jason: Like Seth, Jason doesn't emote much; unlike Seth, it's because he's intentionally suppressing himself to avoid running head on into He Who Fights Monsters. It'd probably be Crispin Freeman, speaking in the same register as Kyon but with Shizuo's affect.
  • Nicole: Megan Hollingshead (Best known as Adine) - I'd need someone who can flip between genuinely tender and completely psycho on a dime.
  • Janice: Kari Walghren (spelling?), probably.
  • Gus: Johnny Yong Bosch or Yuri Lowenthal. He's the youngest person in the cast, and it needs to show through.
  • Bill: Has the looks and personality of a Boisterous Bruiser, but a surprisingly soft voice. Tim Robbins might be really good for him.
  • Marcus: Grizzled, slightly shell-shocked hardass. If Clint Eastwood dropped the growl and talked like he does in real life, he'd be perfect here.
  • Rachel: Julianne Moore or Jodie Foster.
  • Ethan: Mark Meer might be good here - Ethan's essentially what you'd get if you took a Renegade Shepard of the I Did What I Had to Do variety and completely broke his will.

Hmmm...

  • Akiko: Mary Costa (likely with some mixing of growls to create a rougher sound)
  • Mikami: Eleanor Audley, without a doubt.

God, I just love Eleanor Audley's voice...

Kali would have to be voiced by someone with Audio Erotica qualifications. Catherine Zeta Jones or Triba Nishimura, maybe.

(Lighten up folks, this is just a What If? thread. Everyone likes to daydream now and then.)

As a pegasis and a writer both, I'd have to say the main cast of MLP:FIM are probably my favorite candidates. Since I'm working with a 99% female cast in this particular story, (ants are a borderline One-Gender Race in practice,) these talented ladies were the first people to come to mind as voice actresses, along with a few other personal selections of mine.

Un: Tara Strong We've all probably heard Strong's voice, in some form or another, in animation. Un is The New Guy in every scenario, making her the lens through which the audience views much of the story's world. I think Tara Strong would be ideal for capturing the mix of naivety and, eventually, interior strength.

Cutter: Ashleigh Ball. If you mashed Applejack and Rainbow Dash together and gave the resulting mess a sword, you'd get something very similar to my soldier ant, Cutter. Reckless, young and fascinated with action and adventure, Cutter is a simple, honest character with lots of energy and childish expressiveness behind her.

Corastraza: Ellen Mc Lain. Obviously wishful thinking, but who else do you think of when you imagine a woman of power, intelligence, and not-so-subtle malice? Corastraza is a lot like GLaDOS, just with a little less crazy and a thick candy coating.

Imla: Yuri Lowenthal. (Please excuse me for stealing your idea, Kyle Jacobs.) This hypothetical series would probably only use one major male VA in its whole run, so he'd have to be someone that could carry the role. As a male in a virtually all-female society, Imla's basically property of his colony: less of a person and more of a biological resource. Lowenthal just seems perfect for playing nuanced, unlucky but likable fellows.

Madame Notarerunt: Meryl Streep. This was probably the toughest to pick, but I'd be honored to have a master actress like Meryl Streep in my cast. Notarerunt literally means 'the Scarred', and the whole character is a female examination of the Shell-Shocked Veteran archetype. A harsh, low voice with lots of layers and weight would definitely be the best way to bring her across.
