Honestly, I'd change a lot of things starting from the SS arc. Some of the ones I can think off the top of the head.

Less squads for instance and less Vizards.

For instance, I'd have 6-7 Squads instead of 13. Soifon can be head of the Stealth Force rather than a captain of a squad. Cut her lieutenant out.

Captains that I'd keep Yama, Byakuya, Hitsu, Aizen, Gin, Ukitake, and Unohana. Kenpachi would be Unohana's lieutenant and Tosen would be Ukitake's lieutenant.

Keep Rukia relevant and have some more fun interactions between her and Ichigo and his friends. They had great chemistry together.

Also have Rukia get blindsided by several different hollows in Chapter 1 at Ichigo's house and have her defeat several of them off-screen until she gets mauled by the one that Ichigo fights and then have everything of like in chapter 1. That way it becomes more believable when we find out she's lieutenant level and not some scrub.

Also I'd want for development to happen to the villains throughout and not just before they're about to kick the bucket.

This would really fuck with establishing Ichigo as the main character and would not be justified until twenty volumes into the story.

I think maybe it'd be better just to curb the power escalation so it's more believable for a regular Hollow to injure an off-guard lieutenant level fighter.

Kenpachi as a Lieutenant doesn't work well with his placement in SS arc as one of Ichigo's antagonists, and making his connection to Unohana that obvious from the start just seems lame to me. Really, I don't think combing their squads achieves anything at all because their lieutenants don't take significant screentime away from anyone and don't need to. Also, you lose Yachiru's dynamic with Kenpachi and foreshadowing for Unohana's identity.

I'm not sure how that'd mess establishing Ichigo as the MC though. I mean she still has to give him her powers because she's about to get recked and it's the only way.

The thing is that it Kenpachi's dynamic with Unohana didn't really need to be a secret. He could've used some of that fleshing out at the start. It doesn't have to be a twist. Yachiru can still be around but as a third seat or something.

Also Kenpachi can be established as just an unnaturally strong Lieutenant that would be Captain-class if not for not having a Bankai.

Individually they don't take too much time, but all together many of the the lieutenants and captains use up a lot of time.

Anyways, I'm not saying getting rid of all the characters. I'd just fold many of them into 7 Squads. Like I didn't mention it but Sajin would still exist under Squad 1 in my version.

I'm really bothered by the fact that we don't even know what half the Squads even specialize in. Or maybe many of them don't have a specialty.

And I'd still keep Mayuri as the head of whatever he's the head of just not as a Captain.

Also come to think of it, I might actually put Aizen as the head of the Kido Corps rather than the head of a Squad. Momo would be under him and would put further emphasis on her skills with kido.

I do agree about trimming down the squads myself and seven is the magical number after all. It makes the cast additions feel a lot less bloated.

What would I change about Bleach? Whoooo baby.

- Yes, I would establish Rukia as a lieutenant from the start who just got caught off guard, probably protecting Ichigo and his family from doing something stupid.

- I would either tone down Chad's prominence to only the first arc or make him a more obvious partner to Ichigo. Although I lean more towards the former, to prevent him from being baggage.

- Add just a bit more friction between Soul Society and Ichigo, at least up until they rescue his ass in Hueco Mundo. Particularly if its from Ishida and how he feels about them. I like the idea of the main character not immediately trusting them after everything he learned about them.

- Definitely give Orihime more prominence during the Arrancar/Hueco Mundo arcs; she doesn't have to be a fighter and it would be unfitting if she was, but being just a bit more proactive wouldn't hurt ya know, especially after devoting so much time to showing her resolve.

- Probably just skip the whole Privaron Espada angle and just get straight to the main Espada themselves. We had already known how strong Uryu and Chad had gotten, as well as Ichigo so I don't think we're missing much by cutting it out.

- In terms of Fake Karakura Town...I would probably change it to Aizen attacking Soul Society instead, particularly since we know the Soul King's palace can accessed from there and it would feel a lot more dire attacking on hero's home turf. The only issue is that Vanderich would do that later, so I'm concerned how redundant that would be.

- Better define the Hokyoku's powers; originally it was established to dissolve the barrier between Soul Reapers and Hollows, but then it just was kind of able to do anything Kubo wished it could do.

Ok, this is getting long-winded so I'll stop, there's a lot I would change in this series, but these are just off the top of my head.

Chizuru fits into a really common manga/anime trope of the predatory gay.

Its really not great.

Actually, between her and Charlotte Chuhlhourne, I'm surprised Giselle was portrayed even halfway decently.

Giselle really underlined the 'predatory' bit, though.

Cuuhlhourne or however you spell it was at least entertaining.

Yeah but Giselle was predatory in evil zombie making villain way. It didn't feel related to her being trans.

In fact, all the Vanderchicks seemed to be chill with her.

It wasn't a Thing until Yumichika made it a thing because he is terrible.

Its a half step forward, kinda. Ideally, a cow would have fallen out of the sky and crushed Yumichika to death.

To be fair Charlotte and Mayuri also brought it up and Mayuri was once depicted on a chapter cover as a Baphomet, which is a hermaphrodite idol.

I'm still not sure if that was supposed to be taken seriously or if it was just Yumichika insulting her in a really weird way.

In that case, I suppose it was supposed to play up her "creepiness" factor more than anything else.

I would change a lot of things.

-I agree Ichigo should have more tension with the Soul Society up until they bail him out in Hueco Mundo.

-Orihime should have been the one to beat Aizen. Her power would less be "potential story breaker" than something that just happened to perfectly counter the abilities of the hogyoku.

-More even screen time for characters. Kubo has this "zone of competence" problem, where people outside never do anything really important, and people on the bubble can only be helpful but not decisive, regardless of their power (for instance, Renji's in the zone, Yoruichi's on the bubble, Komamura's outside).

-Pick one friggin' power for Ichigo and stick with it. Have him grow within that power, don't give him everything.

-Throw out the post-Soul Society story and replace it with a Buddy Cop romance with Yoruichi and Sui Feng.

I don't really feel Orihime should have beaten Aizen cuz ya know...she's not a fighter :V

See now, her actually rejecting the Hogyoku out of existance would have been something but at the same time it would just lead to more people going "Who, someone conveniently had the power necessary for blah blah blah" which they do all the time now. And for the most part, I don't really see the merit in that.

But her power ended up contributing NOTHING to the plot, that was so damn pointless.

A Barrier Maiden could still be decisive.

He just builds up stuff and then pisses it all away.

Make it a team effort. Ichigo (and other people?) distract Aizen by getting owned in the face really hard while Orihime blah blah concentration unhappens.

Then all Ichigo needs to do is beat a dude who has max stats. No biggie.

Or just not have Aizen fuse with the plotorb at all is also a possibility. As lovely as butterflaizen was...

For the current arc I would change...

• Byakuya would have stayed dead.
• Pepe, Robert, Nanana, Candice, and Meninas would be more of a threat.
• Pernida would kill Mayuri, even if it was a double kill situation. After Nemu is killed, instead of trying to eat the remains Pernida goes after Mayuri again, Mayuri realizes he is screwed and releases a poison bomb so potent it kills both him and Pernida. Yumi and Ikkaku escape with Kenpachi before this happens and Hanataro heals Kenpachi. Akon becomes the new acting Captain of Squad Twelve, even though he does not have Bankai.

I'd trim the cast and make things more meaningful by making gradual casualties on the Soul Society cast.

Yeah one thing to dislike bout most shonen is the lack of death among the cast. Makes the danger of world less real if the heroes dont suffer any casualties.

Yes, I do agree Byakuya should have died; he had a wonderful sendoff and his presence hasn't really added anything to the plot ever since he survived.

Though I agree with the general consensus that he's often a bit lackluster with handling characters I don't think the size of the cast is really apart of that problem.

There was a point when I cared about the characters and what happened, but I don't know what happened. I'm just so apathetic to everything now.
