I also bet it'll be a brick joke now that you've said it, but I bet it'll just be something to make him look silly, not a situation where it's actually important.

Okay. We now have a most lovely Chekhov's Gun (or possibly even a Brick Joke*) in the form of the Evermug from this strip. And this turn of events makes it plausible for Forgath and Minmax to defeat GS, and therefore get thrown in prison.

Still no sign of Kin.

* Is there some kind of rule governing how long a callback must be to qualify as a Brick Joke? This one is almost four years.

The Evermug was mentioned a few strips ago, actually, when they first walked into the tavern.

Ah, right, here. That brings it back to a Continuity Nod used to reestablish the Chekhov's Gun in the minds of the readers. What are the rules? WHAT ARE THE RULES?!?

In a campaign I was in our party came across an item that could produce food and drink for up to 100 people once a day. We, of course, found other applications for it. Including creating enough drink to get a Beholder drunk. It was kind enough to sit and chat and Beholders will eat/drink ANYTHING they think is edible.

Those convenience items are quite abusive if your GM doesn’t argue that much.

3 thoughts:

1) This is a believable way for Minmax and Forgath to win, that I could accept.

2) Earlier on I posted that if Goblinslayer lost this fight then I couldn't accept him as a legitimate threat anymore. This may be a way to avoid that, although Goblinslayer would also have to live through the fire. Who knows what'll happen to him without his Treant side?

3) Who thinks that Minmax is going to take that shiny, glowy sword hanging on the wall to be his new blade? (Third to last panel).

Oh, I Lied, one more thought: beating Goblinslayer is going to be a nice chunk of XP for those two. tongue

Why not just kill Goblinslayer and get a new villain

maybe a Lawful Evil order of paladins that want peace between the monster races and PC races, by unleashing the armies of hell thus united them under a common foe or something

We already have Kore. He's as close to a Big Bad as the strip has presented so far. And of course there's the whole bit with the MacGuffin that the Viper clan is hunting for. Plenty of material without Ass Pulling new villains from nowhere.

true, why now have it been Kore's Order, that wait it woulod tie into the story, I mean making a new villain isn't really an Ass Pull if the Goblins move out of the area they're going to run into new threats

I think it seems both obvious and necessary that Kore is a loner and has no allies.

Oh, my. Wow. That's something I wouldn't want to show my kid. Heck, that's something I wouldn't want to show some adults.

Gotta hand it to Thunt, he knows how to make a webcomic gory.

Whoever said that the tree part of Goblinslayer was like a skin or an outer layer was... wrong.

Wow. I knew that the damage to Goblinslayer was going to be bad because I saw the preview Thunt had up last night, but... wow. And apparently the guy is still pissed off and looking for a fight.

or just the guy an Order sends wend they want something dead, like an Eversor Assassin

Kore just doesn't strike me this way. Everything we've seen him done so far has been of his whole initiative. With all the evil in the world I doubt an Order would send him just to clean up a Bad Guy Bar with no one of particular note in it. And if they did, wouldn't he go back for more orders rather than take it upon himself to seek out the war camp of a small and insignificant goblin war camp, and, when there, take it on himself to seek out their home village?

Not to mention that when it was said that Kore had defeated armies, he had done it singlehanded. Given the potential for even a high level adventurer being worn down and killed by an army, if he was part of an order I think they would have sent more than one person.

you mean like the tree?

As in the magical material: produced by casting a druidic spell on ordinary wood (and conviniently allows them to wear nonmetal armor that's worth it). Ironwood has all the same properties of regular wood, but it's as strong as iron. Goblinslayer may have had his tree-limbs enchanted to be ironwood.

...huh. It's steel, actually.

While remaining natural wood in almost every way, ironwood is as strong, heavy, and resistant to fire as steel

If it is ironwood, that would explain shy his tree-limbs aren't, you know, aflame right now, and why they're still intact.

...Oh crap, I just realized that Goblinslayer's line in the last comic is actually intelligible. It's worse than just horrible gibberish, I think.

Yes, that portion of him is made of wood and burned exactly like wood does. The portion of this forum that engages in wacky WMG at every vaguely odd plot element bugs the hell out of me.
