I'm adding Based on a Dream to the crowner; it's really something that can only be known appart from the work.
Yeah, I agree with that one.
Rhymes with "Protracted."calling Based on a Dream, Fountain of Expies, Invisible Advertising, Marathon Running, Missing Episode, Newbie Boom and Sending Stuff to Save the Show and removing Americans Hate Tingle, Breakaway Pop Hit, Follow-Up Failure, Germans Love David Hasselhoof and Similarly Named Works. By the way, i guess this crowner is sufficiently old to be switched.

I think the crowner is old enough that we really don't need a crowner anymore. It's not really doing anything we couldn't do more easily just by discussing.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Adding The CSI Effect to the crowner - it's marked as YMMV despite one TRS thread disagreeing with it, and it doesn't appear inside a work and is too tangential to storytelling even for an Audience Reaction.

Might be a good idea, there are a few decisions I find rather questionable and I'd like to at least voice some concerns about them.
Also,I added Viral Marketing a few days back and added Fandom Nod today.

I wonder if Shipping Goggles and Anti Shipping Goggles should be trivia. Thoughts?
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerThese are clear cut emotional Audience Reactions. So, no.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI agree with The CSI Effect, I think. It feels right.
Rhymes with "Protracted."...

Shown Their Work is a trope, not trivia.
Rhymes with "Protracted."How is it any different from other accuracy 'tropes', though?
Cuz Shown Their Work isn't just "Author did research", it's "Author goes on tangents in the story to show off all the research they did".
Rhymes with "Protracted."...Then it's pretty widely misused.
It's sort of similar to a Shout-Out.
Fight smart, not fair.I may be oversimplifying a little. But the main requirement for Shown Their Work is that the research is obvious in the work itself, and that pretty much means it can't be trivia (as the note on the crowner aptly points out). It's a trope.
And I'm not seeing a lot of misuse skimming the examples section.

Rhymes with "Protracted."Misuse goes to the Trope Repair Shop anyway.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe normal usage around the wiki seems to be potholes to things like 'scientifically accurate' and such - not to anything indicating that the author has to go out of their way to show their work. So if that really is a requirement, then it's pretty commonly misused in my experience.
And yes, I'm aware this is a TRS issue - I'm just bringing it up here to explain why I had assumed it was no different from most accuracy 'tropes'.

The difference is that with Shown Their Work it's evident in the work itself. I'd even argue that it actually doesn't even need to be accurate at all—it could turn out to be wrong and still count as Shown Their Work.
Rhymes with "Protracted."I'm of two minds about Follow the Leader. It seems to be external to the work, and thus trivia. Though it's mostly a supertrope. Any way, adding it to the crowner, let's see what say the votes.

Crown Description:
The Trivia category is for narrative conventions that cannot be determined from the final product itself. These are details of production and behind-the-scenes events that influenced the end result of the product. This crowner is used in conjunction with this thread. Please post in the thread before adding tropes to this list. Previous crowner here. Make a new crowner after 40 tropes.
Added Short-Lived, Big Impact to the crowner.
