Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Hey guys its me again and I believe I found another potential candidate from a show that I use to watch when I was a kid. Before that however let us discuss about the show shall we. Its called Get Ed!

What's The Work?

Get Ed is a Canadian computer-animated television series. In the series, The titular Ed is an "electro-genetically" enhanced teen who works for Dojo Deliveries, a courier service, in the futuristic Progress City. Ed uses his cyber sleuthing skills to thwart identity theft and other information-based crimes. He and his courier pals Burn, Deets, Fizz, and Loogie (accompanied by his puppet Dr. Pinch), along with their friend and mentor Ol’ Skool, must battle the ultimate evil – Bedlam, an industrialist who has taken over a significant portion of Progress City, by means of stealing from, data mining, or outright destroying his competitors.

If anyones asking yes the baddie I'm proposing is Mr. Bedlam.

Who Is He? What Has He Done?

Mr. Simon Bedlam is an evil greedy bureaucrat as well as the Big Bad of this series. Originally a business partner with Anthony Ol' Skool, Bedlam cheated him out of the business and took the business all for himself, leaving Ol' Skool with nothing. Bedlam would then kill all of his competitors, expanding his empire and take over a significant portion of Progress City to which he exerts his authority over by having his robots terrorize innocent people. However, Bedlam desires to control ALL of Progress City and will do so by any means necessary, with only the couriers led by Ed and Ol' Skool to stop him.

Now, he starts off his sinister machinations by has decide to destroy half of Progress City so that he can re-build it under his own control, as well as profit from such destruction, uncaring about the amount of innocent lives that will be lost in the process. He even nearly succeeds in doing so, however his plan was foiled by Ed with the help of alien artifacts. This causes Bedlam to focus more on Ed's connection to certain alien artifacts so he can use it for his sinister purposes.

He designed a robot specifically to hunt down Ed, only for him to capture one of his friends by mistake. He decides to use this friend anyway as a hostage to lure Ed to his clutches. Once he captures Ed, he puts him into a torture device which would slice Ed's body into piece while he would collect his DNA for study, a process in which Bedlam gleefully explains to be very painful. During that time it is also revealed that Ed's Love Interest Deets use to work for Bedlam when he was holding her parents as hostages. Its also heavily implied that killed her parents which is one of the reasons why She turns of Bedlam and fights him alongside Ed. Luckily they escape from his clutches, but Bedlam is far from done.

He also forcibly converted an innocent man into a cyborg under his complete control, and sent him to the past to kill Ed and his friends. However said cyborg rebels against Bedlam's programming and fights him only for Bedlam to kill him himself.

He once again kidnaps Ed and Deets where he forces Ed to watch as he put Deets through painful electric torture only relenting once Ed gives Bedlam his DNA. When Ed comply to Bedlam's demands Bedlam tries to kill them both once they've outlived their usefulness. They escape his wrath however Bedlam already has what he needs and uses Ed's DNA to convert himself into another him (Physically only, he still retains his sadistic and sociopathic personality)

Bedlam later destroy the couriers headquarters where he proceeds to try and kill the heroes himself. However Ol' Skool proceeds to fend off Bedlam's attack while the couriers attempt to escape and is seemingly kills him off. He also painfully kills off his own right hand woman Kora once he believe that she had no more use for her.

Bedlam then learns of an alien weapon of mass destruction that can only be access by Ed's DNA. Having Ed's DNA, Bedlam proceeds to use said weapon of mass destruction to destroy all of Progress City and along with it millions of innocent lives, so he can recreate it under his own image. However he was stop by and Ed and Ol' Skool the latter of which reveals to have survive Bedlam's attack and proceeds to sacrifice his life to destroy the weapon and Bedlam along with it.

Freudian Excuse? Redeeming Qualities?

The only thing about Bedlam's past was that a business partner with Anthony Ol' Skool, Bedlam cheated him out of the business and took the business all for himself, leaving Ol' Skool with nothing. Thats it!

As for redeeming qualities he hates them. Bedlam himself proclaims that feelings like care, compassion, and love are all weaknesses that has no place in his world and cares for no one but himself and is willing to destroy anything and anyone, including his own minions whom he regularly abuses daily, who gets in his way.

He does a have a few Comically Serious all of witch are caused by his robot minion Crouch not Bedlam, who by the way Crouch's only purpose for his entire existence is to give Bedlam toast, but other than that there is nothing really all that funny about him and is treated as a completely serious threat to Ed and the couriers.

Heinousness

As the Big Bad of this series he sets it. Other villains have lots of humorous moments and none of them comes close to his level of seriousness, sadism, and sociopathy and plans to cause destruction and loss of innocent lives on a grand scale and torture of innocent people. So yeah he passes here.

Final Verdict?

I don't want to sound too arrogant after my failed Princess Shroob EP but I have to give this guy a [tup]. What about you guys?

[tup] to the queen.

I have another candidate: Jefferson Gordy (his name is only mentioned once), the stationmaster from The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia.

Who is he and what does he do?

He was a stationmaster, a person who was responsible for helping slaves escape. However, he was also a taxidermist, and just took the role so he could occasionally leave the slaves locked up in his basement to starve to death so he could use their bodies for his taxidermy. He starved many slaves to death for his taxidermy, though people believed him to be a good person due to no one knowing his secret and the fact that he helped slaves escape. He was eventually lynched and killed by members of the KKK, though his ghost remained.

Many years later, his ghost still haunts the area, along with those of his victims, who have not been able to move on. Andy and Lisa Wyrick, along with their daughter Heidi, move into a rural home in the area after receiving a deal from the bank. Heidi and Lisa have the ability to see ghosts, though Lisa convinces herself it's an illness and they are not real. Lisa's visiting sister, Joyce, also has this ability, and tries to get Lisa and Heidi to embrace the power. Heidi soon talks to the ghost of Mr. JS Gordy, the stationmaster's grandson, who tells her that her family needs to leave.

As Heidi continues to talk to the ghost of Mr. Gordy, Lisa becomes convinced that Heidi is going crazy. It is soon revealed that the ghosts want Heidi to help them defeat the stationmaster so they can pass on, though Mr. Gordy just wants the family to not be harmed. The stationmaster wants to stop the family, presumably because he knows that if he and the other ghosts were to pass on, he would go to Hell. To this effect, he tries to kill Heidi, attacking her when she's taking a bath and trying to drown her, but not before making bugs and sawdust appear in her stomach.

Lisa finds Heidi drowning and saves her. After getting out of the hospital, Heidi continues to see the ghosts, who eventually lead her to an area underneath a well, where the last 5 men who were kept by the stationmaster died after he was killed by the KKK and they starved to death. This frees the 5 men, but also allows the stationmaster to become a lot more active.

Mr. Gordy soon tells Heidi that while the 5 men were allowed to pass on, now that the stationmaster can be far more active, she and her family need to leave right away. Finally, Andy is convinced to take his family and leave, but on the night they are trying to leave, the stationmaster decides to get rid of them. After the family dog sees the ghosts (yeah, classic case of animals having a 6th sense like that) and runs off, Andy goes after him, leaving Heidi alone in the car.

The stationmaster takes advantage of this by trying to grab Heidi. Joyce sees him going after Heidi, so he, realizing she can see him too, attacks her. He uses his supernatural powers to make her vomit a needle and thread, which she is forced to pull out of her throat. Stitching than appears on Joyce's body, and needles and thread shoot out of her mouth and attach to the ceiling. The stationmaster goes after Heidi, leaving Joyce to slowly and painfully die.

Lisa finds Joyce and cuts the threads from her mouth, allowing her to breathe and survive. Joyce convinces Lisa to believe in the ghosts and listen to them. The ghosts guide Lisa to the underground area where the stationmaster is holding Heidi, along with the other, undiscovered, corpses of his many victims and their ghosts, who are begging for help. Lisa finds Heidi restrained to a sewing table, with the clear indication that the stationmaster plans to kill her by taxerdising her.

Lisa frees Heidi and they are confronted by the stationmaster, who tries to kill them both. Lisa takes Heidi to the area where the well leads into the place, allowing Joyce, who has recovered, to pull Heidi up. The stationmaster prepares to kill Lisa, when suddenly, the ghost of Lisa's mother appears, telling Lisa to "let the ghosts in." Finally embracing her ability, Lisa lets the ghosts in, allowing them to save her and destroy the stationmaster. This allows the ghosts to pass on, and, after a while, the family is able to move past these events.

Heinousness?

The stationmaster starved many people to death to use them for taxidermy. As a ghost, he tries to kill Heidi to prevent her from allowing the ghosts to pass on, willing to let his victims remain barred from the afterlife in order to avoid going to Hell. He tries to drown Heidi after filling her with bugs and sawdust, and he later tries to taxerdise her alive. When Joyce tries to stop him, he tortures her by making her vomit a needle and thread as stitching appears on her body and needles on thread shoot out of her mouth, binding her in place, leaving her to slowly and painfully die. Finally, he tries to kill Lisa when she arrives to rescue Heidi.

Redeeming features and mitigating factors?

He did help many slaves get away, but that's obviously Pragmatic Villainy. There's no way he could kill them all, and if no slaves made it to safety, that would surely make the other people involved in the slave freeing chain investigate. There were hundreds of slaves brought to him, of course he couldn't kill them all.

In the flashback where he is lynched and killed by the KKK, he appears to Face Death with Dignity, as he simply puts a sack over his head. As a ghost however, he is bound and determined to not cross over, and does everything in his power to keep Heidi from freeing the ghosts of his victims.

He does not speak as a ghost, and his only line as a human in the flashback is when he leaves his last five slaves before the KKK arrive, telling them that he will be back for them. However, he is not a GDV. His actions speak volumes of his personality and motives. He was a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing in life, acting like a good man who could be trusted, when he really was a monster. He also has the aforementioned moment where he faces his death with dignity. As a ghost, he is determined to keep from crossing over, and is willing to murder children to keep it that way. He is also needlessly cruel, considering the ways he tries to kill Heidi and Joyce. He is also still obsessed with taxidermy.

Conclusion?

If the way he accepted his death when he was alive does not disqualify him, he can count. He is easily heinous enough, and despite not speaking, he has clear goals as well as a personality, considering how much of a bitch in sheeps clothing he was in life and how cruel he is in death with his murder attempts.

@ Lighty: There's also the way he just locked them up and left them to starve. I remember many years ago when I was in a hospital for days and I couldn't eat. Starving is truly a horrible way to go. And he did that just so he could create his taxidermic art, because animals weren't enough, he had to create taxidermy from humans.

New EP!

What's the Work?

'Black Mirror is apoint and click series of horror games by Future Games. Black Mirror itself is the ancestral home of the English Gordon family....the first game consists of young Samuel Gordon returning home after the 'supposed' suicide of his grandfather. Smelling a rat, Samuel arrives and enters a web of horror and murder....Black Mirror 2 is set 12 years later, in New England where a college student gets involved with a beautiful young woman named Angelina of the Gordon family....with a mysterious stranger stalking her...his journey leads him to England, to Willow Creek...and to Black Mirror.

And who's our villain?

Angelina Gordon herself...see, long, long ago, Mordred Gordon made dark pacts with sinister demons that lurked behind the veil of reality...Mordred's soul never truly passed away, lurking behind the veil as well, influencing his descendants to take up the torch and unleash the darkness that lurked in Black Mirror.

Having been contacted by the demonic entities as a child,Angelina grew up to believe she was "destined" to unleash the nightmarish forces of her ancestor Mordred onto the world and rule over the ashes left in his wake, despite her parents' attempts to keep her from the Mirror in the house. To this end, as an adult, Angelina begins following the rituals required to complete the necessary summoning rituals to unleash Mordred and his demonic allies. Allying with a fellow named Louis, Angelina begins killing off people to serve as sacrifices to the demonic entities, while targeting Darren himself...see, there's a secret: Darren is her twin brother and is unaware of it, allowing her to easily seduce him.

First killing off Darren's adopted mother by bashing her head against a table when she and Darren first meet, and obviously playing the innocent on the run, Angelina later fakes her own death by killing a woman and burning her body. Angelina follows this up by executing a member of the ancient Order that is attempting to stop her, and ends her killings by murdering the Black Mirror household's maid Sally by drowning her.

Toward the end of the game, Angelina reveals herself to her estranged brother and informs him that she needs the blood of a Gordon male to open the doorway to a ritual chamber and bring forth the forces of Mordred....to "persuade" Gordon, Angelina reveals she has kidnapped their birth mother, Cathrin, and threatens to brutally murder the woman while forcing Darren to watch if he does not comply.

Louis quickly learns how untrustworthy Angelina is, since when they make their way to th to the ritual chamber, Angelina allows Louis to trigger and die by a trap so he serves as a final sacrifice, and, once Darren opens the door to the ritual chamber, Angelina promptly shoots Cathrin and laughs as she prepares to summon forth Mordred and unleash the forces of darkness from his armies....Cathrin, mortally wounded, tackles her evil daughter and hurls them both into the darkness below the ritual chamber, saving Darren at the last moment and stopping the dark ritual and ending the threat of Black Mirror...for the time being.

Heinousness?

Worst human in the game, easily. Worst human in the games....she stands out from all other villains bar Mordred himself due to the fact that she is actively trying to summon him forth, knowing the death he will bring, and completely uncaring, unlike all other human villains who are Brainwashed and Crazy, with a significant amount of murder for the sacrifices and covering her own tracks.

Mitigating Qualities?

No redeeming features, as Angelina is nothing but a fanatic obsessed with summoning Mordred due to the power it will bring her, and she outright tries to murder her own family members....now, there is one little rub: The curse of the Gordon family. Mordred laid a curse upon his bloodline, allowing him to corrupt and contact those of his line to always insure he had a way back as long as the Gordon bloodline persisted.

Here's the issue: It only affects the men of the Gordon line. Unlike those Mordred turns into corrupted shells, Angelina has full cognizance. It is possible Mordred has been conspiring with her, but Angelina doesn't fit the specifics for the forcible corruption that we see occur in other cases in the games, so I'm honestly attributing it to her being an insane fanatic out to end the world for her own benefits

Conclusion?

I'd say keeper.

[tup] to Bedlam,Stationmaster and Gordon

Since the Queen has a pretty decent amount of [tup] votes. Here's her own draft:

Mystics in Bali (1981 Horror Film): The Queen of Leak is a master of Bali’s black magic that was known as Leak and was at first appearing as an helpful mentor to the protagonist, Cathy and Mahendra. However, towards the middle of the film, the Queen had her own agenda and revealed to be tricking the protagonist all along. After Catherine almost mastering the Leak magic, the Queen then mind control’s Cathy’s head and then orders her to murder an innocent pregnant woman by sucking out the unborn baby from the mother's womb. After the Queen successfully controls Cathy’s head, The Queen then asks her if she wants to join her side in which Cathy turned down the offer. However, the Queen then controls Cathy’s head again so that she could defeat her own enemy and desiring to control’s Cathy’s body so that she could took three innocent lives to make her stronger. When Mahendra’s uncle, Machesse, and Mahendra interfered with her affairs, The Queen then electrocutes and decapitates Machesse in the ensuing fight. Always cackling maniacally and desiring to become youthful and powerful by making her own disciple as a pawn. The Queen is one of the most chilling villain that came from early Indonesian horror cinema.

Any objections or something? If not then I'll add the example to the drafts

EDIT: Just changing the writeup in the drafts so the final one is pretty different than the original [nja]

[tup] to Stationmaster and Angelina now with more than [tup] for Bedlam here is my first write up of the year 2018 for my first Western Animation Monster.

  • Get Ed: Mr. Simon Bedlam is an evil bureaucrat, who was originally business partners with Anthony Ol' Skool before he cheated him out of the business, leaving Ol' Skool with nothing. He also expands his business by killing off all his competitors and gaining a significant half of Progress City, before deciding to destroy the other half so he can rebuild under his control, uncaring about the innocent live lost in the process. When courier Ed foils this plan, Bedlam develops an obsession with Ed's DNA, to use it for his own sinister machinations. This obsession would have Bedlam subject Ed to a DNA extracting process which he describes as "very painful", forcibly convert an innocent man into a cyborg to kill Ed, and forces Ed to watch as he subjects Deets, Ed's Love Interest who was forced to work for Bedlam when he was holding her parents hostage, to Electric Torture until Ed complies to give him his DNA. Using his DNA to physically turn himself into another version of Ed, Bedlam then proceeds to destroy the couriers headquarters, seemingly killing Ol' Skool along the way, and later kills off his own right-hand woman, Kora when he believes that she is of no use for him. When he learns of "The Machine" and its destructive capabilities he decides to use it to destroy Progress City and re-create it in his own image, which would kill millions in the process. A monstrous megalomaniac willing to destroy everything and everyone in his path to obtain total control over Progress City, Bedlam cements himself as the heroes most personal adversary.

I know that it first originated from Canada, but since it was produced by Jetix, a subsidiary for Disney, and was distributed by Disney international does this mean that it goes into the Disney CM page. If so that not only will this be my first Western Animated CM, but it will also be my first Disney CM!
