Greetings. This is the thread for requesting assistance with recovering a TV Tropes account for which you have forgotten the password.
Before posting here, please note that Get Known has a comprehensive set of instructions for managing your account. To summarize, password resets are limited as follows:
- If you have an associated email address, use the Lost Password link on the login screen to request a reset email. If that doesn't work, post here.
- If you do not have an associated email address but you are still logged in, you can register an email address and use it for recovering your password.
- If you do not have an associated email address, and have not used your previous account since September 18, 2013, we cannot verify your ownership for technical reasons.
- To verify ownership without an email address, and if you have used your previous account recently, you should be logged in on the same computer and/or Internet connection that you most recently edited or posted from.
- It is not currently possible for moderators to reset your password or change your registered email address. As a last resort, you may use our contact form to send a message to "The Staff".
Thanks for your understanding.

Thank you!
Might be awesome. Wait, no, is awesome.I used to be False Dawn - the Getting Known screen wouldn't accept what I thought was my password, or any variation of it. When I went to the 'Change Password' option, it presented me with a weird variation of what I had typed.
May I have a reset please?
False Dawn reset. Using punctuation in your password will act like that.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyThanks so much! I won't do it again, I promise. ^^
Jedes Herz ist eine revolutionäre ZelleAfter spending the better part of two and a half years not using his Known account because he became unable to use his desktop (where his cookie was stored) to connect to the Internet only a month or so after the system started, couldn't remember his password to log in on his laptop, and holding out hope that he would eventually be able to return to the desktop where his password was stored so he wouldn't have to change it, Morgan Wick is finally biting the bullet and asking for his password to be reset (it helps that I think all that's left on the desktop is a cookie that doesn't have the password in it), because the wiki is making it increasingly impossible to do anything without one. I think the abilities un-Knowns have are now down to editing articles (anonymously, whether you like it or not - hence my "Morgan Wick was here" edit reasons throughout the wiki), posting on discussion pages (as well as Ask the Tropers, Lost and Found, and You Know That Show - and I've used ATT as a surrogate for being able to post on the forums in the past), responding to (not creating) YKTTWs and reviews, and view crowners and the forum (notable because some things, like the Cut List, you can't even view!) - making a mockery of the Knower page's claim that getting Known is not a user account, because "We don't bug you for an email address." Wikipedia doesn't require an e-mail address either, or at least it didn't when I signed up for it, and it still calls it a user account - and significantly more is available to anons there (you'll just be viewed with scorn when taking part in debates). (Wikipedia does allow you to optionally supply an e-mail address, the main benefit being that if you forget your password, you don't have to plead your case to the admins and hope they find your IP address acceptable.) That line is a vestige of the early days of the Knower accounts, when I wondered why we were creating this system in the first place, as it seemed to have limited application - how times have changed!
So. Anyway. Rant aside, I want my password reset but haven't used my known account in forever (because I was holding out hope I wouldn't need to reset the password, but I doubt that now) and don't know if I could even use the same connection I used when I was using my Known account.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyI am Hankage, now I'm not any more. Well, to be more precise, I can't be any more because I changed my password and forgot. Help?

Hankage has been reset.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyI can't appear to log in on Autarch. Password reset, please?
Autarch reset.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyThank you very much.
Hey. My name's Gigaknight, and I forgot my password. Could those who are able reset it? Thanks in advance.
I'm normally Astra Kiseki, and I would like a reset please.
A tip of my fedora to you. Thank you for your expedience!
Arrrgh this is the most irritating account system I've ever seen. My account name is "Kree The Basilisk".
I don't know what happened, I guess I registered on some other computer or lost my cookies or something. I remember using it one time a long time ago to make a small addition to a random page I was looking at. I've tried countless variations of my old passwords for the better part of the last half hour.
Why is there no *optional* email linkage for these things? My first stop when I forget a password is to see if my email still has it, and the second step is to use the forgotten password reset email thing.
How exactly do you stop people from just showing up and saying "Hi I'm Accountname I forgot my password can you reset it?" to steal someone's account? How do you tell the difference between an imposter and someone using a new browser/OS/computer/ISP? This is kind of the whole point of why email addresses are usually required. It feels like a huge security hole is being punched into your account system for the sake of privacy. What kind of person can't trust tvtropes.org admins with their email address anyway?
Ohh btw, just so I don't run into a whole other shebang, one of the previous admin comments mentioned punctuation causing problems with passwords. What exactly would they be? Because symbols are a common way to beef up password security and it would kind of.. yknow.. helpful to know about these sort of crippling problems at the registration screeen...

Yeah, we need more abuse from people who can't keep track of their own passwords.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyDo you think I like being abrasive? Okay, gee, I made a mistake. I invested a lot of time and effort trying to undo my stupid mistake, with nothing but a kurt line of red text to show for it. I already feel pretty shit for managing to lock myself out of a username after only using it once. If there had been any other way of solving it without wasting your time I would have done it, but I can't. There wasn't even any documentation of how to recover a lost account. I got frustrated by login system. I guess I should just stop trying to have a bit of fun on the internet by attempting to leave commentary about something from a video game...
Just start a new account. You have no profile, edit history or watchlist to recover. Write the password down.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyCould you reset Gigaknight's password as well, please?
It has the same password you are using now.
