Greetings. This is the thread for requesting assistance with recovering a TV Tropes account for which you have forgotten the password.
Before posting here, please note that Get Known has a comprehensive set of instructions for managing your account. To summarize, password resets are limited as follows:
- If you have an associated email address, use the Lost Password link on the login screen to request a reset email. If that doesn't work, post here.
- If you do not have an associated email address but you are still logged in, you can register an email address and use it for recovering your password.
- If you do not have an associated email address, and have not used your previous account since September 18, 2013, we cannot verify your ownership for technical reasons.
- To verify ownership without an email address, and if you have used your previous account recently, you should be logged in on the same computer and/or Internet connection that you most recently edited or posted from.
- It is not currently possible for moderators to reset your password or change your registered email address. As a last resort, you may use our contact form
to send a message to "The Staff".

OK, 75thScrewTheDevs, I've reset 75thTrombone. I have to note that handles starting with a number are a bad thing in general.

Hello! I guess this thread is close enough. Somebody who isn't me is using my handle (Stormtroper, note that it's not "trooper"), and can't retrieve it. I'm assuming good faith and am PMing the person since it might be a glitch or something, but I'm posting here for the record.

How long ago did this happen? There's no sign that the stormtroper account has been accessed recently from a different geographical location or has radically changed behavior on the site. If there's someone hopping on it instead of you, it's someone you know or who has access to your devices.

Huh, I can't guess who would get into my computer to change it, I guess that makes things more complicated. It's definitely somebody else, I can't access the handle and it has a different (stormtrooper themed) avatar, signature and title. It happened only about two days ago (had to wait 24 hours to post).

The account's last recorded forum activity was January 24, and it has no wiki or other activity besides old reviews, PMs, and stuff. We'll have to look into the matter a bit further, as IP data is only logged (for mod review) under certain conditions.

I talked to not-me Stormtroper, turns out the registration page allowed the creation of a pre-existing handle. Quite a glitch, isn't it?

I have no idea what happened. I was browsing the site yesterday, my computer froze, and after reboot, the site had logged me out. It didn't accept any of my password attempts (I might have simply forgotten it), and it doesn't recognize any of my email addresses either.

I am now logged in on this computer but I don't know my password.
I also cannot check my password in "Change password". Isn't that piece of advice outdated?
History: I created handle Bartek Chom with my private e-mail address. After some time, I could not log in and used "Reset password", but it seems that the password was changed, but not sent. (It seems that e-mails are not coming to me after I reset password.) So I created handle Bartek Chom 1 with my student e-mail address. Than TV Tropes changed, I got mails on both addresses (so why don't I get e-mails with new passwords?), but after the change of the site somehow I become logged out (or I was logged out on that computer all the time). I used "Reset password" again (I hoped that it was only a problem with my private e-mail address last time). Than I returned from holidays and realised that on this computer I'm still logged in. But I cannot log in from nowhere else.

Thank you. I created new account but did not get confirmation e-mail. (I checked my spam folder.) Am I doing something wrong or the system really does not send e-mails?
See my previous post - emails are seriously screwy recently. What email did you use, anyhow? (Just the domain is enough).

Mine should have a yahoo associated e-mail with it. If not, I'll pm the e-mail.

@Septimus Heap Now my problem is solved.
I was away from the computer on which I was logged in. Then I somehow become logged out and couldn't do anything. Finally today I got confirmation e-mail. This is really strange.

Hi. I'm mfarah (and now mfarah2, after losing access to my original account). My account is one of the old ones where I only had to "cookie up" and now I can't access it because it's never had a password. How can I recover it?

Right, so it's been a while since the update, so I think I should be worried now: I still can't login to my previous handle, and when I try to reset my password, it tells me that my current email account isn't linked to it (which it was before the update). Can anyone help with this?

I don't understand this part. What do you mean, a "one year old copy of that domain"? A 'whois 75thtrombone.com' shows this:

I believe at least one of those accounts had activity from 67.220.49.90 and/or 67.220.49.100 at some point. Do those match anything you see? I also found 173.218.133.92 in some old sent email headers, that may have been my previous house or work from before I moved.
