Go To

This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

[up] You blanked the page for your work that you put the request into the "edit locked pages" thread for. Page blanking is never permitted, even when it's your own work; it's been used far too often as a vandalism tactic for us to make exceptions. If you don't want the page on the wiki anymore, SOP is to ask for it to be put on the cutlist. Checking the page history, I see this isn't the first time you did this, even after the site admin restored the page.

[up] Alright, thank you. I was unaware that I wasn't supposed to clear history.

So, if I want this particular page deleted, I ask for it to be put on the cut list. I understand that now and the next time it happens I will remember this. I just went about it the wrong way.

Could I possibly have my editing powers back, please? I'll proceed with more caution.

[up][up] Yes, I admit I deleted it previously before, but like I said, I was unaware I wasn't supposed to do that and wasn't called out for it or even suspended the first time and had I had, I would have avoided doing it again. But like you have just told me, I should have put it on the cut list (which I did not know about). I was not trying to vandalize the page.

I apologize for any ignorance on my part. May I please be allowed to have my editing powers back and have the suspension revoked?

I do now understand that being the author of a work that I created a page for doesn't give me the right to blank it out. I also apologize for any reason I offended to you. I really enjoy editing this wiki, it's become almost something like a pastime to me. I'm also rather hellbent on avoiding this happening ever again.

Or I could just go back to just reading the TV Tropes entries again and not edit and just ask if one of you mods would be so nice enough to place the Denpa Teki The Abridged Movie on the Cut List for me, please?

I could also just keep up the page and restore the YMMV section and just trim down the introduction a bit.

[down][down][down][down][down] Thank you very much. Like I said I'll avoid trying to get suspended again and I have added back the YMMV page for that page. Because you said that adding this one to the Cut List was a little more fuzzy, I decided I'll just edit the introduction a bit to explain why it's not online anymore.

You have a good day.

erh. i got banned for...well.. not being a very good editor frankly. could someone add these tropes to teh page for divinity 2?

: Disproportionate retribution: one Dragon Knight turns traitor, humanity's response? exterminate them and their dragon masters. you know? the being who probably created your world, and are responsible for teaching your ancestors about writing and other stuff?

i get the feeling that larian was going for the somewhat non-PC message that too much religious faith makes you stupid or something? i mean, the black ring was still out there, and mankind opted to start ANOTHER war? i get the feeling the Divine has been face-palming a fair bit from within his prison... 2: insane troll logic: ok, a single Dragon Knight went rouge and assassinated the divine, they must be plotting with the ring! kill them all! seriously, humanity? i know religious zealotry makes some people stupid, but still, its a pretty big leap of logic from a singe (mind-controlled) traitor to kill em all and let the gods sort them out. or maybe something talking about paranoia. i dont know. again, if i got my editing rights restored and tried to make an entry myself, id probably bork it big-time.

if you can phrase those two in a better way then me, be my guest. something so emphasize how, over the top the slayers policy is. i mean, one of their own gets turned into a dragon knight against their will, and despite their new powers, have experienced absolutely NO change in personality or beliefs, and your response is to attempt to kill them?

on an unrelated note, are their any Mass Effect 3 multiplayer player who want to mention the current bugs in multiplayer? specifically the game-breakers? (biotic charge failure, magnet-arm sync-kills, the geth being horrifically unbalanced and the unacceptable instability of both the in-game multiplayer store and the origin client?

again, sorry for my fail at editing. i guess i have a tendency to go on rants.

Got banned because I had an altercation with another editor who was editing a page I created to house my story. Was annoyed that day and not necessarily happy about people coming along and editing the pages I made when I'm trying to learn from my own mistakes. I was however being rather unfair to this person who more than likely thought they were doing what was best and my being territorial and thinking I know best, especially when it comes to my own stories, is an acknowledged flaw of mine. I did not handle the situation properly and must acknowledge that I'm not the only person on this website. I'm sorry. Can I edit again, please?

Forenperser:

Read the articles linked in this post. Explain to me how they apply to your edits. If you understand, you'll get a second chance.

Smasher:

After you demonstrate some improvement in this thread, designed to help you with English.

primeyandereheika:

I will unban you, but I cannot guarantee anything about the fate of that page.

Matt II:

Did you read the articles linked? I will unsuspend you if you understand them.

Gantradies:

This place isn't for edit requests. Now, as that post shows, you have big problems with capitalization and spelling. Your edits also contain first person and failure to use Wiki Words properly. Go to this thread to get help with English.

Transformer 214:

Every single edit of yours I had to fix was some form Natter. You treat the wiki too much like a forum where you can add contesting entries to an example. Let me run through a couple for you:

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: The Rainmaker. Cid as a child decides that he wants to be stop bad people and that a guy is as good a way as any to do it. Fastforward thirty years and he has all the Loopers still alive sent back to be killed. This could be argued as a good thing for society because no the assassins in the past aren't killing people anymore and their future selves who had escaped judgment up to that point get their karmic due.

  • Fridge Horror: What will happen when he eventually dies? If Ichigo is ever turned into a Hollow for real...there has not been a single entity in the entire series that even comes close to Ichigo's Uber Hollow's power besides Ichigo himself in Mugetsu. Pity the world, all four of them...

Alternate Character Interpretation is YMMV, not an objective trope. Per What Goes Where On The Wiki, YMMV is restricted to the YMMV tab, not the main body of the article. Putting it on Film.Looper is incorrect. Fridge Horror goes to the fridge tab.

Not completely true. JKR made a huge deal prior to the release that any/all of the big three might not survive the book. Even with there being so many pages left at the climax of near the forest, with such a hype there was still a reasonable fear that should Harry die there, one of the other characters would become viewpoint for the rest of the novel.

That's a triple star, and it's natter. Repair Dont Respond. When something is incorrect, delete it with an edit reason, don't contest it on the page. That looks schizophrenic. And see Example Indentation while you're at it.

  • There is no border about her feelings. If Akuha was any more subtle about her feelings, you would be run over by the bus as it barrels along. If she hadn't been psycho already she would be the definition of Psycho Lesbian.

  • That being said however, while the destruction of Centerpoint is a loathed event and decidedly horrible for the galaxy as a whole what with it being central to the release of Abeloth. It is hinted that she would would have broken out eventually anyway as she seems to be on some sort of galaxy cleansing cycle that starts whenever things get too warlike. Not unlike the Reapers from Mass Effect. The main problem from this is that while it sucks, she is a bit of a chaotic force causing a nice reset of the galaxy after she has been locked away again...except the guys who lock her away killed themselves because Anakin Skywalker decided he didn't want to live up to his destiny...

More natter, continuing from previous natter points. Also a Justifying Edit.

Not to mention the whole problem with the invasion. When the timeline was changed then shouldn't it have occurred sometime in 1969 instead of the morning of the change? It is mentioned repeatedly that the race is extinct for 40 years meaning that their invasion was thwarted in 1969 so if they waited forty years to invade for god knows why after the change than why aren't they all starved to death and extinct?

"Not to mention" and similar phrases are Word Cruft that only serve to smake the sentence look stilled and awkward. Also, the Example Indentation is wrong.

Dark Soul:

That kerfuffle was pretty unnecessary, as the page in question (Blue Eyes) is a disambiguation, and it is important not to leave any links to it lying around. That being said, you seem to have learned, so I'll restore you.

Alright, had editing privileges revoked. Which means I'm not allowed to discuss things. If I didn't know better, I'd say someone was getting sand in their reproductive organs over a valid request.

I presume it's over me and my recent request(s) to cut a fanfiction work page on behalf of the work's author, by request. Which is ridiculous. I see above in this thread, a user was banned for blanking, and told to use the cut list. I skipped to the cut list step, not looking to vandalize the wiki, and rather than be rewarded with getting what we wanted in the first place, we're told "no" for no reason other than, I quote, "No fucking way is an author going to censor us.".

I'll gladly shut up and go back to lurking or even get out of here forevermore, but not before I get what I came here for, which is to get The Conversion Bureau: A Kinder World removed, as requested by the author of the story, Silvertie. He does not wish to be a part of this site or associated with it in any real capacity, hence his passing of the job to me.

He's quite serious about this one, and as his friend, I am as well.

Before we proceed with any sort of discussion, answer this: if someone were to make a forum thread to discuss said fanfic, would the author request that we delete it as well?

He can't whine about what he doesn't know about. Sadly, he's aware of the trope article here because the creator linked him, so he's probably going to keep an eye on it to make sure it either dies permanently, or stays buried. And if it resurfaces, he'll probably rope me into doing his dirty work. Again.

He probably wouldn't ask for a forum thread to be deleted; forum threads are temporary. But again, he's gotta know about it first to whine about it. And I sure as hell have no intention of mentioning this site to him ever again once this business is over and done with, it ain't worth it.

He wanted me to take the polite, proper approach via. the cutlist to get this done quickly and quietly, with minimal fuss. And somehow it's turned into the noisy, messy job it has become, and the fuss ain't ending.

Alright, let's clear a few things:

The people who were instructed to use the Cut List are different cases. Serocco wanted to delete an unpublished work. That means this work does not exist anywhere that is available to the public, only in the author's head. The author uses the page as something of a rough scketch in his head, and the page isn't to be linked anywhere on the wiki. If an author wishes to be rid of an unpublished work page, we allow it, since it doesn't actually exist.

The second case, primeyandereheika, requested the removal of a work page since the movie in question has been deleted from the internet, so it is unavailable to the public. This case is fuzzier.

Neither of those apply to this case. As the fanfic in question is available for anyone to read, the wiki can have a page on it. Who makes it, when and why are irrelevant. No author, paid or not, can prohibit the existence of a page. Thus, the removal has to be declined.

This is not what he wanted to hear. Here's what he's got to say:

"Fine. You fuckers win, I'll delete the story, if you'll delete the article."

He doesn't seem to be backing down, and the story's already no longer visible on the site.

EDIT: In addendum, I don't think I need to be unbanned now. Given how the site and it's users seem to think and act, I'm thinking I might not want to be part of this site, either. Lu 127, you've probably been the most polite and reasonable, but you seem to be a minority here. Farewell.

I know I am bad with that but I was truly trying to add in more information about the topics. I'm really sorry about not placing the tropes under the correct tabs. I had been away on deployment for a while and didn't realize that a few of them had moved to their own tabs. The Fridge one is just me being idiotic though and I don't have an excuse for that.

As soon as I noticed the ban and read through some of the earlier posts I realized that I am completely guilty of adding third bullets far too often. I understand why that's a bad thing and I get that it is better to simply edit a bullet rather than build a new one.

I do use those phrases but I didn't realize that wasn't liked here. It is just the way I talk. I'll try to be better about it in the future and keep it out of edits.

I've been edit banned for months. Can't even recall why. (I believe it was some trope image edit scuffle or something)

Didn't bother me since I'm not that big on editing and most things look OK anyway. But I would like the edit privilige back as I recently noticed 2-3 tropes that could use some more examples.

Transformer 214: I will give you a tentative second chance if you promise to consult the Tips Worksheet for your future edits. Be aware that we rarely hand third chances.

Jameson: Like the poster above you, you treat the wiki too much like a forum.

  • The fact that she showed the most improvement over the course of the season of pretty much any dancer in the history of the show, however, is.

Four bullet points. There is only a 0,01% chance that a fourth bullet point is correct use. The other 99,9%, four bullet points are a surefire sign of the page evolving into a conversation. Once again, Repair Dont Respond.

This isn't something new either, as I can find this part on Wouldn't Hit a Girl from February 2011:

  • Not altogether uncommon. To quote a teammate of mine from high school: "There's no good way to wrestle a girl. You don't want to lose to a girl and look like a wimp, but if you beat her, you just look like a bully."

Conversational and first person, neither of which are allowed on the wiki. It seems you've been editing like this for a while, so take a long read through Tips Worksheet to get the hang of proper editing.

Trash Man: Your ban notice dates back to August 2010 over racist statements. Sound familiar?

Coolman: Ah, yes. Bold Inflation problems. Say, why did you ignore it when someone meassged you on the matter? And why did you make a sockpuppet to keep doing it after your editing privileges were suspended? We don't exactly appreciate people trying to bypass the system when we leave an avenue open for you to talk.

So not sure how to word this. Mainly, I need to know if the suspension was for me editing the page for my own freakin' webcomic, or for my edits elsewhere. If it's for my own webcomic page, then I've got a lot to talk about, to say the least.

If it's for edits elsewhere, then that I don't get, since as far as I can tell, I follow the edit rules. I try to keep the voice consistent (1), I don't much use the spoiler tag (2), I don't add in any example I haven't done the research to make sure fits (3), it's been at least a year since I abused bullet points (5), I've only been editing smaller articles so I know the examples aren't already there (6), I don't put my opinions in (7), I tend to clearly define to the best of my ability the nature of the trope applying to the work (8), I do my best to convey information that the reader doesn't know (in fact, I've advocated for it)...

I don't always explain things in as much detail as they should be, and sometimes I use unnecessary words since the most concise way of phrasing things doesn't always occur to me, but again, I do what I can to make sure it's both informative yet brief, on other pages.

The only thing I can really think of for editing pages outside my own webcomics' is that I don't format something quite correctly, and even then, I do my best to follow the formatting to my understanding of how formatting works. (I've read that page dozens of times, after all. I can't really memorize everything, but I can't see how that'd be the cause.)

And if it was editing my own webcomic's TV Tropes page, then while a lot of the stuff in the above is the same, there's a lot more specifics I imagine need to be covered. (For instance, I strongly suspect a lot of the edits other people have made were made without having actually looked at the webcomic itself, a type of Did Not Do The Research you could say. Research that I, as the creator of said webcomic, obviously already know.)
