Edit banned/Suspended - would like to edit again.:

This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

For a fun site, we're pretty fussy about stuff like grammar and spelling, for example. More than you would expect, considering that we do want the funny. Everything is better with the funny.

Leave a note here indicating you want to talk the suspension over, then hang in there for a bit. A moderator will be along to talk to you about the situation.

NOTE: If you see another banned person post something that you want to comment on, don't. This thread is for discussion between banned people and Mods - no third parties invited.

While you're at it, browse What to Do If You Are Suspended.

Viira: It appears that you were blocked by mistake. I see nothing problematic in your edits. I've lifted the block. Thanks for your patience

I got banned — I think it's a mistake some was a little fast with the ban hammer in the Live Blogging area — which if I remember is free range of the writer of the Live Blogg. If not, can some explain why I was banned?

I got banned from posting in the forums for getting in a Grammar war. Can we talk this over without me getting banned, please? It seemed pretty gray for both of us.

Do you mind if I rephrase this? For some reason, my editing and mailbox systems got banned, too.

Someone said Darmanitan was a lacking Pokemon. I compared Darmanitan to Aegislash in that it's a Pokemon that most players use in the story that get outclassed in competitive. I was chastised for comparing a game to a later instalment in the series. I responded by saying 1: That it was the internet, and thus did not matter (which is probably the big reason I got banned, assuming anonymity trumps coherence), and 2: saying that comparison like that is not wrong, even if it is strange. They told me it was wrong, I said they were "like" each other instead of being the same, and they still said I was wrong. Then someone thumped my posts and suspended my posting and PM system.

What do you make of it?

@ Mad Writter: Looking through your most recent edits, I see numerous spelling and grammar issues. Also, you don't get to remove WM Gs just because you think they're stupid, and you definitely don't say such in the edit reason...that statement about keeping edit reasons civil on the page isn't there for decoration.

@ Trollblade69: We've gotten numerous hollers about your posts in multiple threads in the last week or so, and your rudeness in your thumped post in the general Pokemon thread was completely uncalled for, no matter the argument(s) it was attempting to address.

What counts as rude and not rude, then? Reading the rules list just lists a metric ton of ways to say "Don't edit war, and don't be a jerk." I know what the first means, but how do you define being a jerk?

On the screen where you write a Forum post there's a box that says "Everybody: The wiki is only interested in hosting a friendly, civil forum. Check out the rules. We do enforce them." What you should ask yourself before you click "send" is: "am I contributing to a friendly a civil discussion?" If not, don't post.

So, with that in mind, how is this:

You're just a crazy jerk with a stick up his ass about what constitutes as grammar.

contributing to a friendly, civil discussion?

Note that your behaviour was much more of a problem than your grammar; though we do expect our contributors to write legible text, and if they can't do so they're invited to learn English and come back when they're at an acceptable level.

I can understand that. But wouldn't they be rude for enforcing grammar that would make less sense in retrospect? Is comparing something to a later incarnation really poor grammar?

Regardless, I still lost that war, and will pay the consequense. Is this a perma-ban or something shorter?

I'm fairly new (maybe not brand new), and I never read the rules — in particular, ideathe page-blanking ruleidea. It never occurred to me; and I'm glad I know to read the rules now. (Not that "needing" to page-blank has ever been my intention in the first place... and not that I should ever "need" to page-blank.)
I recently came across also a rule about trope name-changing (which I don't know how to do, apart from starting a new trope altogether). And the rule is... (drumroll....): Don't fix it if "it ain't broke". I was possibly on my way to breaking another rule, I gather... The more I learn, the more I grow.
I've been a bit too lazy to YKTTW any new page or get it indexed. I ought to be less sluggish and impulsive (strange and hazardous combo I'll confess right now). I'm glad to hear (read, rather) that ideathere's a way to start a page without actually launching it until it's completely ready to publishidea. Furthermore, it occurs to me that I ought to wait until I'm less of a novice before I start new tropes anyway. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
I think the jury is out on axing or placing Freaky Friday Fault Finding in YKTTW; but the other one (Freaky Friday Finger Point) can be axed. Trope creator's own permission right here to axe it, no mercy needed!
Off to read the rules and see what else I can learn...

Bassball Batman: Since it's pretty clear that you know what you were suspended for, and why those are not-good things to do, and you intend to not do them anymore, your suspension is lifted.

Trollblade69: Please read the forum rules. We aren't going to try to list off everything that can be considered rude; doing so will simply invite rules-lawyering. But calling other posters names or attacking them personally are clearly covered — there's a whole section just on that.

In the something-less-than-a-month you've been active in the forums, you've accumulated 9 thumps already, three for rudeness and three more for excusing rude or off-topic posts with "But this is the internet; I don't have to behave." News Flash: The internet is a very big place and there's plenty of other sites for you to practice GIFT on. We don't want it here, we don't have to tolerate it here, and we won't tolerate it here.

I can't read them. I'm blocked from posting and from even seeing threads.

But how long is this ban for?

I've lifted that part of the block. You should be able to see this thread and the FAQ threads now. Let me know if you can't. The block stays in place until we ( the mods) are convinced that you understand what got you blocked, and that you'll stop doing it. So "How long?" is dependent on you.

Okay then. Thank you for your small mercy.

I'm guessing I need to keep opinions to myself and have all my edits be friendly if I want to come back?

You don't need to keep all your opinions to yourself, but you do need to be civil about them, and you need to not attack other posters. And yes, civil edits and edit reasons are also necessary.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.
okay then. So can I start editing again? That'd be cool

I guess I was suspended because of my grammatic mistakes, right?Like I said before English is not my main language.I find it easy to translate it when I read or listen to it, but doing the opposite is quite difficult. I swear I'm trying to do better and I'll try even harder if I'll get my editing rights back. Good day, gentleman.

Can I edit again, please with Christmas sugar cookies on top!

Hi, apparently I was suspended, but I have not been informed for what reason, so I might as well have been the victim of vandalism. I would like to know why this happened and I would like this suspension to be lifted.

Also, I have no clue why I could have been suspended, other than perhaps grammatical mistakes? Since I don't know why it happened I don't know what to apologize for? I have checked all the possible reasons for suspension and none of them seem to match, except possibly for grammatical mistakes?

@ thecookiefactor: In reply to your last post: Yes, we do have massive misuse of ZCEs; it's a problem that we're trying to deal with but it takes time and effort by everyone who's working on the wiki. I've lifted your suspension.

@ Mad Writter: As you haven't acknowledged my previous post, no.

@ menotti: The consistent problem I see with your edits is a lack of spacing around punctuation, along with other spelling and grammar errors and a lack of namespacing for Paperinik New Adventures (that's not a suspendable issue, but it's something that needs to be brought to your attention). You also restored several Zero Context Examples on Characters.Paperinik New Adventures.

@ Patachou: Misusing Plagiarism on YMMV.The Nostalgia Critic and TheNostalgiaCritic.Tropes O To S. The suspension reason lists "edit warring" this but I only see consistent misuse. That trope is not to be thrown around lightly, and the edit reason when it was removed from the former page clearly spells out why it doesn't apply.

I'm sorry about not being civil — and I will very stupid WG Ms alone from now on. Also, I'm think I try to spell correctly. So can you please restore my power to edit TV Tropes?

Mind if I cut in?

@Mad Writer: From how you're phrasing things, I'm guessing you're clearly not an English speaker. For starters, you should go to "Get help with English here" in the Wiki Talk folder to ask the mods whether or not an edit you perform will be socially acceptable. As for the WMG deletion, they are only acceptable if the WMG is an outright bash. If it seems stupid to you, just say you doubt it in an edit and leave it alone.

My PM system is still disabled, so leave any messages you want to send to me here. I come here regularly to check up on how the mods feel.

This thread is for discussion between the Mods and people who have been banned. It's not for discussion between banned people. There was a time when anyone could post here. We put a stop to that because it really wasn't helpful to have everybody talking to banned people. We decided that it's better if it's just the banned person and the Mods.

So no third parties, please. Talk about your own case, not those of others.
