Courtesy link: Scarf Of Asskicking

From what I could tell, the trope as written in the description is solely limited to "scarf-like weapons used to kick ass", but the examples seem to near-universally treat it as "characters who kick ass while wearing scarves" instead.

Bonus Boss, dood!
I would say cut the line about "It seems to cut as well as any sword..." since the rest of it is just about scarves being worn by badasses who kick lots of ass.
These people need the truth. And not the pretty truth. The horrible, terrible, ugly truth that hurts peoples' feelings.

I'm under the impression that it's the item, not the character (like Cool Shades is Sunglasses that add to the overall Cool Quotient, and Cool Bike is the motorcycle itself, not the person who rides it. In other words, it's a Costume Tropes, not a Character or Characterization trope.

If I had a piece of chalk, I'd work it out on a wall, if I had a wall.

But it's still about wearing it, not any powers the item has.

True, but if it's also a weapon, that certainly bears mentioning. What would help a great deal would be if the examples contained a description of the scarf, not just "Character name has one." or even worse "Character name."

That would work better as a general trope about clothes as weapons.

Hmm...

It might be best to make a separate "clothes as weapons" trope, and keep this one as is as a semi-Sub Trope - since if we keep it as "wearing a scarf while kicking ass" then "using a scarf to kick ass" would factor in by default, though perhaps not so much vice versa. In any case, I have no problem keeping it as is.

And not just because Skullomania wears a Scarf Of Asskicking.
