Not sure of the protocol here, but I'd like to nominate Portmanteau Couple Name.

It's a Shipping subtrope, and Shipping is YMMV. It's basically just an excuse to put up a long list of pointless names with no content or context beyond that, in some cases involving characters who've never even met or interacted in any meaningful way.

Edit: Put it up in the Crowner.

Pretty clearly a fandom trope. Don't see much to argue about. It can be used In-Universe, but it's primarily about fans.

By the way, did marking something as In-Universe remove the YMMV flagging like marking them as invoked do?

A crazy suggestion from a friend: Well-Intentioned Extremist. After all, one man's extremist is another man's hero.

It's from the viewpoint of the narrative, so I don't think that one is very subjective. It's also about a type of behaviour, not whether you consider the character a hero or villain.

Still can't believe that no one's buying Broken Aesop. Whether or not the story's lesson is really lost is a subjective matter, and it's an Audience Reaction, not from the narrative itself.

Broken Aesop isn't getting votes, I believe, because people think it 's the narrative contradicting the aesop.

I believe that Broken Aesop can be framed in objective terms, but it's definitely an audience reaction in the way that it's used.

Besides, people have argued that an aesop isn't broken by the narrative; just look at all those MLP forums that argue about it. Broken Aesop seems to be more of an opinion, not a fact. The fact that it can't be directly invoked makes it more subjective.

It seems to me that Portmanteau Couple Name is a special case of Fan Nickname, and should be trivia like the latter, not YMMV.

I thought that was categorised as an Audience Reaction, but if it's trivia, that's where Portmanteau Couple Name fits as well.

Except it's also a derivative of Shipping, which is an audience reaction.

As I understand the difference, shipping is about the reaction people have, while names they give to characters or couples are just what they call them, but not audience reactions in themselves. Portmanteau Couple Name doesn't derive from Shipping as a "trope", but is something that comes from the shipping fandom. It's not the reaction in itself, but a way to classify it.

[up]I think we should wait for Memetic Troll to get enough votes first. It already has 6 as of this post, and all in favor.

Crown Description:

YMMV is for items that are reactions of the audience to works and tropes that need a significant judgment call to tell whether they exist objectively or not.

Should these items become members of YMMV?

Note: Audience Reactions need to be subjective, emotional responses and things that are likely to cause arguments and disagreements. Merely being outside a work or inside an audience don't make things YMMV
