Exactly what about fat old men is endearing anyway!?

Re: hologuise malfunction.

If Kyon's PDA ever messes up a costume change....

Other than the Literal Genie trope, I don't see Ryouko or Skynet making such a mistake. Although, Rule of Funny is a powerful force and Deadpan Snarkers seem to call things like that upon themselves...

Alternatively, how about a scene where Kyon is being forced to wear a period attire (blame Haruhi and Tsuruya), something like a samurai or shogun outfit, just when an emergency in the ninkyo dantai front arises, leaving him with no option but dealing with it while dressed like that. But instead of making a fool of himself, I picture serious-mode!Kyon actually managing to pull off enough gravitas to make the clothes work for him in that situation*.

Unrelated.

A short while ago I tried to find the CG dump of the game The Reminiscences of Haruhi Suzumiya. I didn't make it, but in the process I found some pictures (spoiler-ish, though) that maybe could be useful as base footage for the Kinetic Novel.

Snapshots here.
Note 1: the pictures hosted in imageshack (a dozen or so) have a decent resolution.
Note 2: Kyon's picture quest is kind of funny.

Mediafire is being a bother today. I will try upload the pictures as a zip file tomorrow if it proves necessary.

Those are very nice, and a zip file would be great too. Thanks. grin

Now if only there was a way to actually play these games. (That doesn't involve spending years to learn Japanese.)
Without love, it cannot be seen.
Well, unlike Tomoyo After and CLANNAD (which are both being done by Doki, so YAY), the Haruhi Suzumiya VNs aren't nearly as well known in the North American region.

[up][up][up] Well, Kyon _was_ wearing kimono when last he rescued Sasaki.

Though I kinda want to see him trashing bozos while wearing the (holodisguise of a) suit of armor Mikuru put him in that once, which he termed "Kyon von Tada-"

[up][up][up][up][up][up] I'd love to see read about that happening to Kyon. I don't want to see it without brain bleach on hand, but reading about it would be funny.

...Wait, I'm helping with the VN. If that DOES happen to Kyon, I'll see it whether I want to or not.

[up][up][up][up] I usually wait before reading the next chapter, but after the last cliffhanger...

Wow, that was fast. Excellent news. I was worried about having to sit on that cliffhanger for a while. grin

You sir, are my hero. And if you can ever find a fully realized game rip you'll probably be my personal saviour for at least a couple of weeks. Seriously.
Those are very nice, and a zip file would be great too. Thanks. grin

Here you go.

[up][up][up] Well, Kyon _was_ wearing kimono when last he rescued Sasaki.

I forgot about that one tongue.

LL-2: "The Slow Days"

Sasaki blinked again, unsure if she should be more thrown off by the entire conversation, or the fact that Kyon was wearing — evidently — a yukata.

Though I kinda want to see him trashing bozos while wearing the (holodisguise of a) suit of armor Mikuru put him in that once, which he termed "Kyon von Tada-"

You know, when Kyon ended wearing that RPG outfit, I couldn't help but wonder if he was cosplaying as this character (picture). Then again, Tales of Phantasia was one of the first games I played, so I'm definitely biased:

Fan Art wish: Kyon, Mikuru and Haruhi cosplaying as Cress, Mint and Arche, respectively (explain the joke).

Also, the ponytail probably counts as plus for Haruhi (at least in Kyon's book).

...Wait, I'm helping with the VN. If that DOES happen to Kyon, I'll see it whether I want to or not.

Let me help you.

More unrelated pictures:

Recently I found one pixiv member who produces doujins about Sasaki for the comiket. I have not read them, but I can say at least that the covers are nice (sources in image description).

@ Sasaki doujins: Big want.

@ "Kyon von Tada...": Slightly lesser want.

@ Reminiscense: Now we have canonical pictures of Asakura as a bunnygirl. I'm glad I browsed TV Tropes today.

Me too.

What, that one official artwork depicting the SOS Brigade girls, Tsuruya, Imouto, Asakura, Emiri, and maybe one more girl in playboy bunny suits doesn't count?

I think I know what artwork you are talking about. Colour-Coded for Your Convenience, I guess tongue.

I found another one that fits the description, but the art style gives me "second season" vibes.

Edit: I just realized something... The space where Haruhi goes to when entering "safe mode", and also Kuyou's "shadow song"... Do those places count towards the Pocket Dimension trope as well?

[up][up][up] I was referring to the first one. The second one, however, seems to be a new one for me. cool SAVING TO PERSONAL ARCHIVE!

And that third pic... <EPIC THUMBS-UP>

Edit: I just realized something... The space where Haruhi goes to when entering "safe mode", and also Kuyou's "shadow song"... Do those places count towards the Pocket Dimension trope as well?

IINM, I think we can only consider Yuki's "Hyperbolic Time Chamber" as one. Sasaki's Closed Space and Kuyou's "shadow song" are too big to qualify (Earth and Earth's orbit sized, respectively), AFAIU safe-mode!Haruhi's space is not really subordinated to the baseline physical reality (it appears it was specifically designed to be difficult to access by means other than the Trust Password) and we know next to nothing about disappearance!Earth.

If I had to put a label on each of them, I would say that Sasaki's Closed Space is the Dark World (dark and empty copy of the world), Kuyou's "shadow song" is the Phantom Zone (a lot of fighting and Noise happen here) and safe-mode!Haruhi's space is the Debug Room (Haruhi gets administrative access to reality in there and, as far as we know, it comprises only one room).

Random thought.

I wonder if the Angel Mort still exists in the present time of K:BDH. I think it's unlikely taking into account the timespan involved (I would think that a lifespan of >28 years in the food business is a lot of time), but considering that the Sonozaki family probably owned it, maybe profit wasn't its main purpose*.

Tropes questions.

Does Iyouji working in Yamatsuchi Keiji's store counts as a Continuity Nod and/or One Degree of Separation?

I would like to include something about Nonoko calling Kyon "Nii-san" again in the main page, but I'm not sure under what trope list it. Maybe as a Continuity Nod, but it doesn't quite describe it. My current idea is to add it as a subtly (and particularly heartwarming IMO) inversion of Dude, Where's My Respect?, what do you think?

That might not even be deliberate. That closed space started out as the beginning of a new world, just like at the end of Melancholy, and the one at the end of Melancholy couldn't even be entered by the espers. Koizumi had to borrow energy from other espers just to appear to Kyon as a red outline.

Re. Angel Mort, that's an interesting question. The impression I got from the visual novels was that the Sonozaki family businesses are actually legitimate businesses run by individual family members who just wanted to open a business, but with a certain amount of give-and-take with regards to the family itself. I remember one of the later VNs explicitly saying that Oryou Sonozaki would lend money to family-owned businesses with little to no interest, for example, and in exchange for favors like that each business was more than willing to do what they could to help Oryou (like the toy shop owner giving the Higurashi crew free stuff for the Watanagashi auction in Minagoroshi-hen, because the auction was Oryou's idea). Angel Mort specifically seemed to do a lot to make itself a local fixture, what with the cosplaying waitresses and the (IIRC) quarterly "Dessert Fiestas, " so between that and the Sonozaki family's support I think there's a fair chance they kept themselves afloat up to the present day.

@Nonoko calling Kyon "Nii-san": I think it's an instance of First Name Basis * as it denotes their relationship is improving: Nonoko and Kyon are trusting more each other.

Nonoko improving her side of her brother-sister relationship with Kyon, yes; I don't see how her calling him by something other than his nickname signifies an improvement on his part, though, since her starting to call him "Kyon" all the time instead of his real name or "nii-san" was all her idea of a practical joke that he had nothing to do with.

12348 Eamil, Tue, 12th Jun '12 8:23:03 AM from Somewhere over there.
[up]The trope just says a change in relationship, I don't see anything about it having to be on both sides. I think Kyon's little sister A) being brought into the fold and B) deciding to stop being a jerk to him about his nickname (since she of all people knows he hates it) is a pretty significant change.
