Troper Map:

1 Madrugada, Tue, 12th Jan '10 8:07:05 AM Relationship Status: In season
Zzzzzzzzzz
There's a Google Map for Tropers now. For some reason, , however, Google maps won't move from one page to another of the multiple pages the map takes up. This means that if you are on page one and add yourself, it will look like nothing happened, because your pin will have been placed on page three and you won't see it.

Here are direct links to each of the pages. If you want to add your own pin, please do so from the link to the last page.

The first page is at this link.

This is the link to page 2

this is the link for page three.

  • To add yourself, you'll need to have a Google Account and be signed in. To simply look at it, you simply need to click that link.

To add yourself:
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page. There is a list of page numbers. Go to the last page that's listed. It really doesn't like it if you try to add yourself onto a page that the software thinks is full.
  • Zoom in and center the map approximately where you want to place the pin.
  • Click on the "edit" button that is placed by the top right corner of the map. (See the first screencap in post #3)
  • Three icons will appear in the upper left corner of the map itself. (second screencap in post #3)
  • Click on the center one (the teardrop-shaped marker).
  • Drag the marker to where you want it (The actual point it will be placed at is marked by the grey "X" under the point of the pin, not the point of the pin itself.)
  • Add your name in the "title" box that opens after you've dropped your pin. Important: use the small empty title box that floats over the map after you place the pin; not the big one at the top of the locations list that says "Troper's Map" and shows up before you place the pin. That big one is the name and description of the map itself. Every time it is changed, the ratings and comments are wiped.
  • Click "Save" (Post #3, second screencap)
  • Click "Done" (Post #3, second screencap)

If you have two locations you want to add (for example your home and your school, ) simply make different titles for them ; Siht Report (Home) and Siht Report (School) or something like that.

If you cannot get a Google account, PM me with the information you want attached to your pin, and instructions on where you want the pin to be and I'll add you.

also, there are three pages, only the pins listed for each page display on the acompanying map.

I have a Google account and am logged in, but don't see an "edit" button.

Yep, I somehow got it to let me add a mark, but it didn't save it.

You live in Davenport? Seriously? That's only a few hours from me. Pity I never have any reason to go out there.
See you in the discussion pages.

It worked that time. I hope nobody who gets in a Flame War with me comes knocking at my house.

Just put your marker in the general vicinity of where you are. Putting your marker in the middle of an interstate is a handy way to help Darwin weed out troublemakers... wink

Oh yeah. You don't have to put your marker on your house. Put it in the general area. For sufficiently vague values of "general area".

Does anyone remember what it said in the description box before I was stupid and erased it?

Or does it matter, now I've put something like it back?

I don't see your comment.

I'm a little dismayed to see the number of tropers who live in intersections and public parks.wink

You know, even if you put a close location to where you live, just knowing the house isn't exactly enough to track someone down. The US are way too paranoid about the internet. Most of you aren't 16-year-old-girls, thus you are in the low risk area, anyway.

The description was just something like "For people who post on, edit, contribute to or just read the TV Tropes Wiki or forums."

Added my school. It's within walking distance from my house. Which, in my case, is still a ridiculously long distance.

Added roughly where I am. I'm too paranoid to put my house's actual location on there.

I didn't actually realize we could scroll in close enough to put our roads on... I just waited for the city name to appear and plunked down an arrow. I'm actually surprised how close I got to my house, although it's still, like, twenty minutes away...
Thanks for the all fish!
