You just need so many resources for crafting to be worthwhile, and I really hate stopping to pick random crystals and weeds off the ground.
The one nice thing about The Descent is if you do it, it does set you up pretty well financially. But by then, of course, you've already done The Descent, so you don't really need half the things you could buy or craft anymore.
I save all serious crafting for when I have access to the Tier 3 mats in the Black Emporium. Until then, I make due with Tier 1 and 2 mats on Tier 3 weapons.
The hardest thing to find is leather; cloth you find after a bout of killing people, and for metals you can generally get enough just by grabbing what you stumble across. Leather is found on animals, and is rarely looted elsewhere. If I really don't have enough, I just go over to the Black Emporium.
I usually don't bother with gear I find (sells pretty well, though). You can usually craft something much better.

You can farm Leather in Haven from the wild Druffalo, but they are a pain to kill until you get a higher level.
Eh, it's tier 1.

Oh, then Great Bears tend to be easy finds in Emprise Du Lion.
I should clarify - I don't find much difficulty finding leather, just more than other supplies. I tend to be swimming in dragon scales by end game.
The best farming spot for leather is in the Burning Plains, near the western camp... there are those strange kind-of-armadillos wandering out there, you can kill them with one blow and they usually give 6+ rare Tier 3 leather each. And that's a spot where Tier 2 materials seem rare and shiny!
Oh, if we're talking about any kind of Tier 3 leather, then Emprise Du Lion is still the best because of all the snoufleur around.
Finished Act One last night. Feels. Bioware. Argh.
Then I got the best cool down - the judging of that mad Avvar goat chucker. I sent him and his entire tribe off to play with the Tevinter, with all the weapons they could carry. I'm surprised that they gave any other choice than that one, to be honest.
How many people don't make that choice, anyway?
Oh God! Natural light!I just love Josie's "Don't look at me" during the Judgement.
Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets.Alright, avoiding any spoilers for anything after the first act, but your first time going through DAI, who'd you pick, mages, templars, and why?
I know we've had this conversation before, but I find it interesting.
Mages and I don't know. Probably just that the mage recruitment quest sounded more interesting.
My roomie and I were divided on it. She eagerly went Mages. I wanted to go Templars but decided to give the Mages a chance to show me their rebellion wasn't just more "LOL we so evil" nonsense like DAII was filled with.
Then I got to Redcliff and they were like, "LOL we sold our souls to Tevinter!" and I was done with that.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.It almost feels like the writers are worried that too many people sympathize with the mages, so they keep having mages make pacts with demons and whatnot to "even them out." It reminds me of the original Civil War comics, where Tony was made a strawman because they were afraid everyone would naturally side with Cap if things were fair.
Of course, Dragon Age has the advantage of not being written by a dozen different people who each get their own moment where they can soapbox on the issue.
Mages because I looked up spoilers and their quest sounded way cooler.
This song needs more love.Mages because I prefer getting their help in general. I've also liked playing their quest more than I did the Templars.
I went with the Mages. I was spoiled on it and thought that it was a quest that I would find interesting.
In-character, I thought that A) weird time magic seemed like the more pressing matter than whatever was going on with the Seekers, and B) only a truly heartless person would abandon people to slavery at the hands of Tevinter.
(Hint, hint.)
Oh God! Natural light!Mages. The Templars made it clear that they weren't interested and I couldn't just let a Tevinter Magister keep such a vital castle in a foreign country. Not to mention that I agree with the mages' cause far more than I do the Templars'.
To be fair, they were desperate for any help they could get and for all they knew, a few years working for Tevinter would be worth it.
(V)(;,,;)(V)Mages. I think I made the wise choice.
Also, Venatori agents infiltrated the mages and made the idea seem more popular than it was. Almost none of the members of the actual mage rebellion thought it was a good idea.
That being said, mages.

While I acknowledge that both mages and templars fucked things up, I still have slightly more sympathy for mages. And I agree that their quest is better. :P
I just don't have the patience for it. Not in this game. I spend so much time sorting through useless loot that the last thing I want to do once I'm done is go make more. ~.~
