Useless Hero Mobenoma.
I'm just trying out Opera for the first time and everything in the posts looks like an underlined Blue Link.

Hey, another Opera user! Cool!

What version do you use? I have the Wii one. The main difficulty I have is that the Wii will randomly freeze if I try to click "back" in the forums.
Ad hominem: an argument which links the validity of a premise to a characteristic or belief of a person advocating the premise.

How about we just keep the wiki a nice place by agreeing not to do this? Also, if someone thinks you've insulted them, consider apologizing for having done so inadvertently, instead of writing "I didn't really insult you- you're just too stupid to see what I really said".

I use the Wii version when it's handy to but I'm trying out the regular PC version....it seems very quick and lightweight, better then Chrome in that respect, but I'm just getting used to it's quirks. I've haven't had the freezing problem on the Wii that much when pressing back IIRC, I use it mainly for Youtube and Homestar Runner and sometimes TV Tropes.

(Janitor or Fast Eddie, can you please move this to Yack Fest for me?)

ETA: Thank you!

ETA: Turns out I wasn't imagining the glitch.

Another Opera user here. I'm having the same problems. It doesn't cripple the fora, but it is an annoyance. Fixes would be much appreceiated.

By the way, I might as well link to their site. If Eddie's going to do some debugging, he's going to need the browser.

Ah, so it is a problem then? Also, it makes the boxes under "Main Tropes Index" rectangular instead of curved.

*shrug* I've been an opera user from way back and I've been aware of the "whole page turns into underlined blue text" bug for ages.

I just didn't mention it because I figured nobody else used Opera. Also, it's just not really big enough a bug to be more than a minor nuisance.

Well now you know you're not alone!

Um....

.....this may need to be moved BACK to Wiki Talk now......or maybe Tech Wishlist. I'm terribly indecisive.....

I'm looking at posts with Opera 9.63 and not seeing blue underlines. What version is having the problem?

Try scrolling down the page? It can happen but I'm not quite sure what triggers it....I think clicking a Hottip did it the first time.

 test

And it also seemed to happen just randomly when scrolling down a page, but it went away when I scrolled back up....and came back when I scrolled down.

ETA: Thanks for moving this....again. Now that I know the problem is real (Though I don't know how to trigger it) it won't need to be moved again, I promise.

ETA: I think it happens when you push the middle mouse button down to scroll and move the pointer over some text.....I'm new to Opera so I'm not sure if this is an Opera "feature" or a compatibility bug *Shrugs*

Well, the html doesn't validate very well. Opera may be sensitive to on-the-fly style sections, which are W3C illegal but handled fine by all the other browsers.

It'll take some fiddlin' to figure a way around that because the forum uses page-specific styles. Should be fixed, anyway. There are places where standards make sense.

That happens to me at times, yeah, though I don't think the Opera 10 builds do that...

I've found that nudging the width of the window slightly will fix the underlining temporarily.

I just discovered another Opera glitch you'll want to fix: clicking on ads does nothing.

Scratch that: it was a "You have to click to activate this control" problem.

There are places where standards make sense.
You mean everywhere it doesn't break something worse than non-standard markup? ;)

...I'm big on the web standards, for the most part. Browsers have come so far in the past few years, that coding to standards is (finally) a damn good way to get a reasonably consistent appearance, cross-browser.

...And looking over the forum topic validation, it looks like there are about five repeating (per-post) errors causing most of the markup validation problems (and XML parsing errors), and another two errors from the in-document style tags. Doesn't look like the CSS code is the problem to me - all the errors look minor (non-hex colours and browser-specific tags), and the warnings look, well, terribly inconsequential.

From my experience, I'd suggest looking at the improperly nested tags first. I *think* they're the most likely to be causing the described problem.
Don't turn your back, don't look away, and don't blink. Good luck.

Yeah, occono, I know exactly what you're talking about. It's weird because when it happens I simultaneously think, "I hate this" and "This doesn't really bother me much".

I might've upgraded. I'm not sure. I did change my skin recently, and since then the bug's been gone.

The bug seems to be caused by the "location" field in a post, I see it every time Tzetze posts, for example. The underlined text from below a post which triggers this will say something like "Tzetze post on <timestamp>" in a tooltip if I leave the mouse over any of that text. (Not to pick on Tzetze, or anything, just that's an example I notice alot.)

Placing my mouse over the left column of the screen where the ads are and scrolling up and down the page clears the effects of the bug until I start scrolling again with the mouse in the main body of the page.

The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.
