Genre Turning Point vs. Follow the Leader

It seems to me that these two tropes are very similar. Genre Turning Point refers to when a work is so influential that it affects the rest of genre. This seems to be the same as Follow the Leader. Is there a distinction between the two. The only difference I can think of is that Genre Turning Point refers to a lasting impact on the genre, where as Follow the Leader refers simply to a trend.

[up] At least the way I’ve seen them used, Follow the Leader refers to a specific work drawing on a successful older work. Genre Turning Point is more general, when enough works do this that it permenantly changes the genre.

I don't know, a lot of the examples on the Follow the Leader page refer to general trends, not just a specific work drawing inspiration from a successful one.
