I actually find the new SAO series kind of dull, but good for him to finally find a SAO entry that he likes lol
More of a fan of his survival series myself. Remember: Awareness, Balance, Clenched Fists and Don't F*** your Sister.
If you can't handle being outed by a signature, that's on you.But what if she's not related by blood?
Then you DON'T F**K YOUR SISTER!
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Eh, He's ok.
I feel like he shills a bit too much, and not in a way that feels natural, either.
Watch SymphogearThe clickbait video-titles don't help, either.
I became familiar with him via his What's in an OP videos for Jojos Bizarre Adventure.
One Strip! One Strip!I like most of his stuff, whether I agree with his overall point or not. Like his recent SAO video I found quite interesting, enough so that it's convinced me to watch the spin-off.
I like him. I get kinda turned off by youtubers who act in a very over-the-top bravado on-screen since it doesn't look natural, but Jeff does it really well. Impressive, as a "professional sh**bag from his mother's basement".
Also please read the opening disclaimer in his What's In An OP videos because he DOES SPOIL THE REST OF AN ANIME in all of these.

I know about this channel after he posted this video about learning your favorite show or anime was done by some controversial people. (eg.MMO Junkie anime directed by an anti-semite Racist).
I think a bit of a thing he avoid, when comparing Orson Scott Card, Nobuhiro Watsuki and the dude from MMO Junkie, is that while yes it's true works have a lot of creators behind them, Card and Watsuki are the primary driving force behind the work. Kazuyoshi Yaginuma isn't the writer or creator of Recovery of an MMO Junkie, nor is he really the primary driving force. He's a cog in the machine - an important one, but you can't say the work wouldn't exist without him.
Ender's Game wouldn't exist without Card. No matter how many people work on the movie, the movie is intrinsically an adaptation of his work.
(Also that video is a bit out of date, Nobuhiro Watsuki was basically given a slap on the wrist fine for the child porn he possessed. )
Also to me the argument comparing skipping out nesquick vs skipping out on works "well nesquick has generic alternatives" - It's a flawed argument. Sure, there's only one Chinatown, but there's plenty of good movies. More media than you can consume in a lifetime. Saying your life is less enriched by not watching one good movie is disingenuous because your always making choices to watch or not watch stuff.
Hasn't the issue with Orson Scott Card been less about whether he's personally a bad person, and more about him donating money to anti-gay organizations?
It's not "I don't want to give this asshole money", it's "I don't want to give this asshole money if he's just going to funnel it towards funding political causes I oppose".

"It takes an idiot to do cool things, that's why it's cool" - Haruhara HarukoMost people stop caring once they find out about his views on the subject. It takes extra research to know it goes that far, and I doubt people feel the need to do that research if they're already blacklisting him.
Doesn't matter either way. If you blacklist him, it has the same effect no matter the reason.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireFifty bucks on the linked video being a pre-emptive defense in preparation for the time when the news breaks about him being a bit too handsy with his fans during a con.
He does good vids that I followed for a while, but he has a good number of mediocre and bad videos too and he really does shill too much. He's good at picking the nuance in opening music videos but seems to miss the nuance in the bodies of the works occasionally.

Geoff analyses the Tokyo Goul OP.
I like this guy, and also fuck the shill complaints. Dude's gotta make money.
Shill? You mean the website and game ads he runs in some of his videos? I don't get calling him out for that unless you never cared for him in the first place.
I think they mean "shilling" as in some of his videos don't contain any real kind of criticism, critique, or analysis of the show he is talking about, and are little more than advertising for a new show on Crunchyroll.
At least that's what I assume everyone is talking about.
Honestly, the only time Geoff has came across as forcing a video specifically for the sponsorship was the one where he ranked the Naruto O Ps from Worst to Best.
Other than that one, him plugging his sponsorships never bothered me.

Talking about how Anime (specifically the Animation) has changed in the digital age.
This Public Service Anime about "puberty" came out a few days ago.
Here's a link to his most recent video (featuring Megalo Box): https://youtu.be/swCcDLRD83o
I have no idea how to embed videos. Warning, the video contains spoilers for episode 9.
He also mentioned he was making a video based on Darling in the Franxx and I'm kind of worried about it considering the controversy the show has garnered (and it's June). I love Geoff but he can be very ignorant of criticism at times
Yeah, I was pretty shocked to see that he liked it in one of his earlier videos.
I can comprehend still liking it but as an entertainer, you need to please your audience and that sometimes means going against your beliefs. I'm just really scared about the incoming backlash.
Mother's Basement is an media analysis You Tube channel run by Geoff Thew, a former games journalist, that mostly covers anime and manga, though he has occasionally covers other subjects like Series/Riverdale and Avengers: Infinity War. I feel he has enough of a presence on the internet to warrant his own thread.
His latest video is an analysis of SAO Alternative, where he discusses why he feels that the spin-off is better at exploring SAO's core theme than the main show.
