I've been looking at this trope and its various subtropes. I'm curious how similar a plot has to be to a previous story for it to be considered a Whole-Plot Reference? For instance, let's say there's a show where someone found out that his father was murdered by his uncle, and he now wants revenge. Would that be enough to make it a Whole-Plot Reference to Hamlet, or would the story have to have more in common with the original play to be considered an example of this trope?
