Actually thinking about it, showing actual rules may be a little iffy from a copyright point of view (not sure on that though). Besides the rules themselves are less important than the amount of rules if I understand the trope correctly.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellNot sure on the legality either.
We may just want a crowner at this point. It's probably going to come down to which stack of books to use.
On a side note, it's worth noting that you could theoretically use all the rulebooks in my picture for one army (a massive varied chaos force). That wouldn't be possible for the picture in post 22, although it shows more total rulebooks.
Health sure is versatile. It's possible to be both light-headed and dim-witted. At the same time, no less.I still maintain, a stack of book is less illustrative than the current as there's nothing rules related about these books when you see them from the spine or from the cover. The current might be illegible but it at least shows rules.
Double Post, found an idea, little editing from Amazon

Hmmmm...that’s a possibility.
That's much better.
30 is more concise I will admit.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellKinda still prefer the books.
Check out my fanfiction!30 could get chess players riled up because as a poster commented on the amazon page, chess "proper can be expressed in considerable detail on a few pages with illustrative diagrams, so readers should find it obvious that a 369-page book must be going FAR beyond that fundamental set of instructions."
It's the rules for legal chess tournaments actually. Including price rules, ethics rules, bracket and pairing, chess by correspondence rules, etc.
And frankly, if you want to be that anal about it, I can levy the same criticism at the 40K books. Plenty of those book is fluff, not crunch :-P
(And this still has the benefit of both looking like a rulebook, having a title that sounds like a rulebook, and being legible)

No familiarity with Warhammer, so I think the book stacks all need a caption to work. I'm partial to the chess suggestion.
I put a caption on my images.
Health sure is versatile. It's possible to be both light-headed and dim-witted. At the same time, no less.I'm still going for 13.2 as illustrating the trope best while still being readable at wiki resolution. Some of the others are okay, but I feel like 13.2 is the best.
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DM^ I wouldn't call 13.2 readable.
Plus there's nothing indicating these are rulebooks.
Speaking of Rules Lawyer, I sort of wonder if the MtG card (from the new Unstable set) by that name would work. (The quick summary; it protects against one rule of Magic; the reminder text is a partial summary of what that entails.)
That said, I don't think it actually works as an image.
I'll go with 30.
(Annoyed grunt)Crowner's hooked and the clock's off.
Votes bump; three in the green.
Probably can call it now
"Where's the rule on how to move the horse?"

Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
At least this show rules. Though I'd argue we might as well keep the current.
The other problem with the books is that nothing says they are rulebooks. In fact, if you do make out the title, the fantastic names lead one to guess otherwise.
