Suggestion: Heir Club For Men

I'm going to ask again, because the last Image Pickin thread was too vague and too tongue-in-cheek.

But please hear me out. While the current image was meant to be a parody, I feel like it's gone irrelevant now and it no longer illustrates the page, now that Prince is dead. And as I was browsing through the history and the discussion page, I found out that the previous image, while considered Black Comedy, did not illustrate the page. This does not mean that we're going back to that previous image, mind you.

So, I was thinking of a bit more serious image that illustrates the male-only succession laws. So far, I can only think of these suggestions:

• A Song of Ice and Fire: Targaryen Line of Succession post-Dance
• Crusader Kings: Salic Primogeniture and other Laws of Succession
• French Salic Laws in practice from 1245 to 1461: 1◊
• Current Japanese Imperial Order of Succession: 1◊

Not really convinced any of those are better than the current, but I'm open to other ideas.

I don’t have an issue with the current. Even if it verges on Black Comedy (which I don’t have a problem with, considering all four real people there are dead), I quite like the puns.

The first two suggestions are texty and not as visually interesting as the current, the French one is too complicated, and the Japanese one is weakened by the fact that the Crown Prince doesn’t have sisters in the image, so one has to look at the third generation to get the gist of the trope. Keep Until Better Image Suggested so far.

Honestly, so far, I can't think of any fictional examples other than this◊ from a gameplay of Medieval II Total War.

If anything else, we could always make a chart of our own. A simple one at least.

If we do the family trees you suggested, they'll have to be legible at wiki size (350 pixels wide) and get the point across. The first part is the main issue with the suggestions given.

Unless if you can present one that won't lose clarity when shrunk down to wiki size, I'll vote Keep Until Better Image Suggested.

Hmm... I'd prefer something that makes it explicit that women are skipped over, though.

The part where woman are skipped over is key to the trope. Any replacement needs to emphasize that.

I'm fine with the current image. It illustrates the point without being illegible and manages not to be overly specific. I am not yet convinced that we wouldn't be changing for change's sake.

The current is Clear Concise Witty. None of the suggestions are up for this standard. Keep.

If we don't get a solid replacement suggestion in the next coupla days, I'm locking this thread.

I was supposed to post the cropped version of 1.1, but then, there's a point. We could update the current image, find out who is the next living King or Prince in music.

The closest I could find is Ozzy Osbourne. the Prince of Darkness; R. Kelly, the King of R&B and Justin Timberlake, the Prince of Pop.

I still fail to see how 'Prince is dead' is a valid reason to change the image. It wouldn't matter to tropers who don't recognize his picture.

To be honest, I don't fully know why at first. Perhaps it was out of respect for Prince (and Princess Diana), and perhaps there are no other video game princes in that pic to succeed him. Maybe I was thinking too seriously over a parody pic.

I guess I'll go for keeping the current pic.
