I highly suggest we give this article an Example Sectionectomy. There is a LOT of creepy and fetishistic content listed on this page.

Opening for discussion.

I have no objections with giving it an Example Sectionectomy.

Do it.

I disagree, we need to step away from pulling out the chainsaw because there's been way to much of it on the wiki lately.

Honestly just a cleanup is in order with this. Those that do not actually have pages on the wiki probably should be looked at the most.

[up]x2 The page and off-page examples will still exist, and this is the type of issue where chainsawing is actually warranted due to the content.

Chainsawing is never warranted unless a trope is flamebait with no chance of salvage.

In any other case everything in our power should be done to save the examples.

Here's a possible option: remove examples from works that violate the P5 and see what's left.

I don't think the sheer amounts of fetishistic content listed is even remotely worth saving IMO.

[up][up]

I second that. Remove stuff that shouldn't be there anyway to due to P5 removal and then go from there on the clean up.

Remove what violates the P5. We don't need to remove examples on every single little controversial trope.

After looking at the points from those against a sectionectomy, I'm alright if we start with purging the P5 violating works first, then seeing what we have left. If the rest are too small in number to stand or still a bit skeevy, then we may have to bring out the chainsaw.

If the tone being to skeevy is the problem then just clean up the examples to be less skeevy.

I'm looking at the examples and I'm not exactly sure where the "fetishistic" examples are. I'm curious as to what OP would consider "creepy" or "fetishistic." Can people please quote some of these fetishized, typed-with-one-hand examples?

I mean, the stuff I'm seeing is appropriate for teenagers; I don't get the problem presented in this thread. Here's some quotes:

From Anime:

  • Coyote. It's a non-canon prequel to Hellsing that involves La RĂ©sistance, Pip Bernadotte's backstory, foxy snipers, Those Wacky Nazis, and an Arab boy with dual handguns. You could crop out all the sex and it still constitutes a story, if not a compelling one.
  • End of Summer is a 4 part series that's equal parts Slice of Life and Dating Sim, about Wataru, who dreams of working up the courage to ask Mai to be his girlfriend. As the title implies, he has 'til the end of summer (just two weeks away) to do it. Except Mai is already sorta seeing someone and there's four other girls to contend with, plus, he has to deal with his best friend's love problems. All of which makes it hard for Wataru to concentrate on his own.

From Comic Books:

  • The Piano Tuner, by Ignacio Noe, is a collection of short stories about the sexual misadventures of the eponymous character as he makes house calls. It's really quite hilarious, and reads more like a gag comic with a couple of pages of explicit sex in every story. Witness as he runs through the street naked being chased by a television producer (his latest conquest was the star). "I never did tune that piano..."
  • The furry military sci-fi parody comic Tank Vixens, about an all-female (and mostly lesbian) battalion specialized in "psychological warfare".

From Films:

  • Sex Trek is a porn movie with Expys of the Star Trek: TOS cast getting in on in various ways on the Starship Intercourse. And in between, there is a plot, the exposition of which is laced with awesome double entendres and self-deprecating humor. The first two minutes (SFW) are on You Tube. It's actually pretty awesome, and a good example of how these films actually work pretty well as parodies even if the hanky-panky bits are cut.
  • Virtual Girl (1998). A man enters virtual reality and has a tryst with a simulated woman. He tries to break off the relationship, but she turns out to be: sentient, a Yandere, and can affect the real world.

I don't follow the 5P threads enough to recognize which works were cut via the 5P, but I think it makes sense to fully purge works that were supposed to be unpersoned from the site. So I support purging the page of such examples. However, what is the problem that the OP brought up if not "it's creepy and fetishistic"? I don't see an obvious majority of examples as being fetishistic or creepy.

And looking at comment #9 in this thread of "I don't think the sheer amounts of fetishistic content listed is even remotely worth saving IMO," I think it's fair to ask the OP to actually quote some of these allegedly problematic examples. A casual skim of the page should show the fetishistic content if there are "sheer amounts" of it.

Yeah, reading those examples you pulled I'm not seeing it either.

It reads as downright mature and academic relative to what you'd expect from a page about fan-service and sex heavy works.

  • A diaper-fetish anime is listed in Anime & Manga, which I'm pretty aware is probably small potatoes compared to more lewder anime fetishes out there, but still VERY squicky (Omujo! Omutsu Joshi)
  • A fetish furry webcomic is also listed under Web Original (the title is a heart emoticon)
  • As is a fat-gaining documentary in film (Hard Fat)
  • And a shapeshifting exhibitionist fetish comic also under Web Original (Shapeshifter)
  • And a homosexual incest webcomic (Brogulls)

Not sure if this is enough to warrant a Sectionectomy, but...yeah.

No, the actual rhetoric used as on the page.

Here are two of the entries that you're complaining about.

  • ♥ (not sure how you pronounce that) is a Furry Comic on Fur Affinity. There are plenty of really, really hardcore fetish scenes, but they're handled with surprising amounts of depth. It's hard to find with a search engine, so here. This comic is described as "It WILL offend you at some point. Please let me [the author] know when it does." At the beginning it was just a "fetish of the day", but it really does have an interesting story. Granted, it'd be a lot shorter without all the fetish scenes...
  • Brogulls, which is a homosexual incest story about an anthropomorphic seagull who is in love with his older, more bulkier brother. The comic balances out "porn" and "plot" really well, with more emphasis on the plot that manages to sway into porn without feeling completely shoehorned.

What about these entries is creepy and fetishistic? Sure, the works themselves may or may not be, but an example sectionectomy doesn't concern itself with the works themselves but the example list.

I'd like to know as well.

Granted, those might be something the P5 needs to deal with deciding if reference to them can stay on the wiki, but the examples themselves aren't written in any sort of creepy fashion.

I don't follow the 5P threads enough to recognize which works were cut via the 5P, but I think it makes sense to fully purge works that were supposed to be unpersoned from the site.

The rule is that so long as the example itself doesn't violate any P5 guidelines, examples from cut works can remain.

That said, I don't see any examples that are actually a problem on the page.

I'm kind at a loss on what OP wants done here, then.

1)Examples are written in a mature and somewhat professional tone instead of being creepy gushing

2)No P5 issues.

Is it time to close up shop here?

After reading this discussion, I believe that it certainly is time to close up shop. It doesn't seem like there is much basis for the complaint as far as I can tell.

Although I'm glad we looked more closely, I have to agree that this sounds like things are fine. At most we might want a project to keep an eye on examples, but it doesn't sound like repair is justified, so this should be closed.
