It is just something that came up in my head.

When the conflict pits the protagonists against a cult that seeks to bring about the end times, I notice that there exists's a subtle variation.

When there is greater emphasis on the cult or cult members, the conflict is very much Man vs Man as it pits a heroic organization against a villainous one.

But when there more emphasis on the apocalypse or the entity that causes it, it seems to shift into Man vs Nature as the protagonists race the clock to prevent avert it or at least mitigate it. The cult (or cults) are nothing but speed bumps in the grand scheme of things.

So tell me what you think of this observation.

Silent Hill 3 has an interesting take on this. It's sort of both? Man vs. Man because the cult is forcing the protagonist's hand but Man vs. Nature because of the nature of the obstacles in the protagonist's way (plus the ultimate villain in the whole series is Satan).

I think the Man vs. X conflict types imply mutual exclusion by their names but they aren't necessarily so.

I guess another way to think about it is: if the cult worships an in-universe real deity, then it could be both, but if the cult is a sham then it's just Mv M.

Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they pretty
