Happy Holidays! This is an invitation to join us on a planned playthrough of Night of the Krampus, a Basic Action Super Heroes game adventure!

The premise: something weird is going on at the local orphanage. Adults act strange, children vanish... But then, some Xmas gifts mysteriously grant several children super-powers! Can they use these powers to stop the greatest Xmas villain of all?

Don't worry if you're not familiar with the system- I'll handle that part. We'll use Rolz for rolls. The game will begin as soon as we have enough players. There's 2 already but I'd like 5. Note we will be using pregenerated characters. The characters currently available are:

  • Kindle, a girl with Fire Powers
  • Terryn, a girl with Earth Powers, including turning into an Earth Elemental
  • Peril, superstrong boy.

This is a one-shot adventure, meant to celebrate the holidays. Will probably play over just a few days at most. It is also a test to see how BASH works on these forums.

Please post in this thread if you're interested.

No experience with the system, but interested in Kindle.

It's kind of funny. Sufficiently advanced stupidity is like sufficiently advanced science; eventually, you find something you can't solve.

The system is very easy. The only important mechanic is that you roll two D6 and add the results, if that beats a Difficulty, you succeed (if you roll the same numbers, you get to roll again and add those numbers too.) In any case as I said I will handle everything except player choices.

The Krampus: [1]

The kids- Terryn, Peril, Kinder and Red Shift [2]

One more, Chiron: [3]

Two slots left- Terryn and Peril!

Ideally this should start on the weekend (the good thing about playing here is that you can take your time and not worry too much about your Holiday plans.) But its not strictly necessary.

Do these pre-generated characters come with personalities or anything else we need to know about besides the power? Because that picture makes Kindle look like a pyro, rather than what I was expecting.

They do, but you can play them anyway you want.

Here is the official write-up:

Kindle — Kendall (age 12-16), knowitall eldest of the Children, Kendall is also keenly aware of the responsibility this places on her. Her greatest fear is that one of the other Children will become hurt or, even worse, on her watch. Kindle’s fire and heat powers are strong, but untapped. She is never sure exactly what will happen when she uses them, but is also creative in suiting them to the situation.

(note: you can also set her age)

For those interested, here are the two others as yet unpicked:

Terryn — Tara, age 11-15, a quiet kid just arrived at the Orphanage. Her mother recently died and Tara is hurt, confused and terrified of what her life has become. Her greatest fear — That it can still get worse. Tara also has great capacity for compassion — She is deeply conscious of ecological issues, animal rights, etc. and she is the most likely to reach out to someone else having a bad day. Terryn’s abilities arise from her concern over the fate of the earth and manifest as transformative and earth control powers.

Peril — Perry, age 11-15, Perry is a tough street kid, housed at St. Nicholas by the last act of a social system that has failed him time and again. Think tween Wolverine in mentality and you will not be far off. His greatest fear — that his toughness of mind and body will be revealed for the façade that it is. Yet there is a terrific core of will, and capacity for loyalty in Perry as well. Peril’s powers are dangerous and indiscriminate, especially when he is angry. Unfortunately not everybody is a durable as he is.

Can I switch to Terryn? This character is resonating with me.

What about Red Shift and Chiron? What are their personalities like?

Dragon: Sure! That means Kindle and Peril are available.

Emily:

Red Shift — Rae-Anne, age 11-15, Rae-Anne is nearly as old as Kendal, but small for her age, such that everyone thinks she is younger. Rae-Anne is not inclined to correct them, using her pretty red curls and diminutive stature to get what she wants.

Chiron — Keirin, age 10-14, delivered two years ago as a ward of the state to St. Nicolas Orphanage, when his parents were killed and Keirin crippled in a car crash. All Keirin had with him was a centaur action figure, which he still treasures above all else. He is friendly and very bright, and reads constantly, pretty much anything he can get his hands, or the outdated Orphanage computer, on. His greatest fear is also his secret hope — that the worlds of fantasy and miracle that he envisions might actually be real. Keirin’s escapism manifests in his powers, where he actually creates a physical representation of himself embodied as Chiron the Centaur, his favorite character. His own body remains behind, unconscious and vulnerable. Generally Keiron will try to be in bed, so it appears that he is asleep, when he “transforms.”

I'll play Kindle then. Terryn does sounds awesome though... But I can make Kindle chaos incarnate—for better or worse.
