I'm starting this thread to comment on the wildfires of California in 2017. Right now, we have half a dozen of them north of Los Angeles.

The wildfires this year broke records and did billions of dollars worth of damage to the state. It's also horrible seeing the death toll. I really feel bad for everyone who is affected. Currently, the Thomas Fire in Ventura/Santa Barbara is the worst, and it now threatens the latter city. The Skirball Fire affecting Bel-Air, thankfully, is 3/4ths contained.

I'm just curious how this will affect California going forward. How much it will change the state. The fires in October did serious damage to the state's wine business, and I found it hard to see the results of said fires.

The Thomas Fire has now prompted more evacuation orders in Santa Barbara County, and the evacuation zone includes Montecito, home of people like Oprah Winfrey. I pray that they are safe.
