The Good, The Bad and the Spandex: The Reboot

Go To

Due to Hurricane Maria striking Puerto Rico, I was forced away from the internet for 40 days, and am only now returning to my GM duties in several games. After consulting some of my players in Spandex, we decided the best way to go was a partial reboot of the game- that way they can re-use their characters, reinvent them, or use brand new ones, but not worry about old ongoing plotlines. This also will provide a good jumping-on point for new players.

But what is TGTBATS about? Its a superhero game for original characters of your own creation, that you can play any way you want. You can even play supervillains; the only kind of forbidden characters are truly evil ones- sadists and killers. This is a super hero game after all.

A summary of the rules:

-A character can be of any power level. You can play as Cockroach Man or Galaxy Eater. It doesn't really matter due to the PC invincibility rule (see below).

-Only a player can decide how his character is affected. You can *try* to hit another player's character but he or she decides if it gets hit and what happens. If necessary the GM will intervene to explain any Deus Ex Machina. But don't abuse this rule! Also note NPCS are not covered; you may do with them as you please except torture or kill them.

-You can write up your own plotline or join into an ongoing one at any time. You may also leave any time you wish to, though a warning is expected.

-If you wish, you can create NPC characters (including heroes and villains) for me to use. In fact you can create anything- races, artifacts, events, etc. though its up to the GM to see if he can fit them together.

To join, fill in the following Character Sheet and post it in this thread. Remember, you character can ONLY use what's in the sheet- no asspulls! You can however, add abilities and equipment to the sheet if the character acquires them during play.

  • Identity: Name, Status (Hero, Villain, Anti-Hero) secret identity (if any)
  • Abilities: Powers, Weaknesses, Skills, equipment
  • Appearance: describe or provide an image link
  • Personality: how he, she or it behaves most of the time
  • Background: How he, she or it got this way

Then wait for GM approval. You can start playing as soon as you are approved.

You may also switch to a new character any time you want; just be sure to "write out" your previous one first.

Links for the game and Discussion Threads will be posted here.

Identity: The Traveler (reluctant Hero) Simon Jones (assumed name)

Abilities:

  • Powers
    • Interdimensional Travel: can travel to any place in any world in any universe, even across time. However his control over this power is tenuous; sometimes he lands in the wrong place, and ends up stuck there for days or longer.
    • Adaptation: Can instantly adapt to any unusual environment, force or substance, gaining temporary powers as a result. However he has no control over what these powers will be.
  • Skills: Moderate experience in most forms of armed and unarmed combat. High knowledge of alien worlds and foreign cultures.
  • Equipment: cannot carry anything but the clothes he wears when he travels across dimensions, and the stuff in his pockets (such as money) are usually useless in other universes.

Appearance: A Latino man in his 20's; no distinguishing marks. Dresses as inconspicuously as possible.

Personality: Collected. Logical. Doesn't like to get involved but cannot stop himself from protecting innocents if they are in danger. Likes doing research and solving mysteries.

Background: The man known only as "Simon Jones" (an alias to prevent his parallel universe counterparts from being affected by his actions, or vice versa) was born somewhere in the United States of *an* Earth. When he was a child, he wandered into a forest and spied on some fairies opening a portal to their home dimension. Amazingly, he was able to do the same! On fairyland, he rescued a Brownie girl who was menaced by some Grigs (well, he was a giant next to them tongue) In gratitude she took him to the village elder who explained to him the multi-layered nature of reality, and how some humans -called Travelers- had the natural ability to travel the dimensions.

Excited, he returned home and told his family about these events. But of course they thought he was just making it up. After he kept insisting, they forbid him from ever talking about such things again.

And he didn't. But he kept secretly sneaking off to play and learn from his fairy friends.

Years later, when he was a teenager, both of his parents died from health issues. He still had an older sister who wanted to take care of him, but he wanted nothing more to do with this world. By now he was a competent adventurer and, after proving the truth of his tale to his sister with his powers, he said goodbye to her, and left. He occasionally still returns, but only to reassure her that he's all right.

In over a decade of dimensional travels, "Jones" has been exposed to everything from radiation to magic. The combined effect of all these forces caused his adaptation ability, which he finds useful if unpredictable (do NOT ask him about his time in Equestria.)

Jones has recently discovered that his travels are not accidental- a Cosmic Being called The Scribe [possibly related to the Narrative Titans] has been behind them. It considers him its "agent" who explores other universes in its place. Jones is distrustful of him, but must continue to follow its wishes in order to retain his powers.

Ember Maiden

  • Identity: Cora DuFresne, high school senior and diner waitress by day, superhero by night.

  • Abilities:

    • Fire and heat generation and manipulation: Cora can start and control fires, or even just create large quantities of heat. She tends to be fairly conservative about how large the fires she starts are, due to her deep-seated fear of hurting someone.

    • Fire and heat immunity: Cora can’t be hurt by fire or heat.

    • Animal empathy: Cora has a limited psychic rapport with animals, allowing her to understand them, to an extent, and influence their emotional state.

    • Cora is also a skilled seamstress and cook.

  • Appearance: A sixteen-year-old girl with blonde hair in a pixie cut, brown eyes, a button nose, and a smattering of freckles. Her costume as Ember Maiden consists of a yellow minidress over red shorts and yellow boots, as well as red gloves, a red waist-length cape, a red wig, and a red mask that covers most of her face, except for her eyes and mouth.

  • Personality: Cora is kind, hardworking, and shy. In her civilian life, she’s almost pathologically quiet, and it’s a challenge to get her to speak at all most of the time. She’s more outgoing and confident as the Ember Maiden, where her quietude comes across less as shyness and more as mysteriousness, and she sometimes displays a wry sense of humor. In both personas, she’s compassionate, hardworking, and protective of others; do whatever you want to her, but she won’t stand for anyone else getting hurt. (Also, she’s a lesbian prone to getting crushes and being too shy to act on them.)

  • Background:

    • Cora’s mother Katherine had an interesting and exciting life, but since this isn’t her story, all you need to know is that Katherine had escaped from the fairy queen Mab as a child, impressing the fairy so much that she promised Katherine a boon. Years later, Katherine, married and pregnant, requested that Mab serve as her child’s godmother, because she knew that Mab kept her obligations. Mab agreed, and when Cora was born, Mab enchanted her, giving her superpowers.

    • Katherine died when Cora was three in a car crash (or did she?), and Cora’s father remarried to Natalie, a woman with two daughters of her own, Charlotte and Delia. Cora’s life was quiet, up until a fire consumed their home. Cora’s stepfamily got out in time, but Cora and her father didn’t. Cora was unscathed by the flames, but she watched her father die in front of her.

    • Over the next five years, Cora’s relationship with her family deteriorated. It was an open secret that Natalie blamed Cora for what had happened, and Charlotte and Delia followed their mother’s example. Cora, who also blamed herself for the loss of her father, didn’t dispute anything, preferring to lose herself in daydreams and later getting a job waitressing to stay out of the house.

    • One night, while walking home from work, Cora managed to scare a mugger away from a homeless woman, and the realization that she could use her powers to help others gave her a sense of joy that she hadn’t felt in years. She made herself a costume out of what she could find and began fighting crime as the Ember Maiden!

It’s certainly weird thinking that after over a year, I’m copy-pasting the very first post I ever made. I guess you can’t improve on perfection though, can you?

Strip Poker

Identity: Chance Kingsley. Villain. Petty thief. Not-So-Secret (He thinks it is, but when was the last time a domino mask hid anyone's identity?)

Powers: Strip Cards - If he throws a playing card and hits a piece of clothing, that piece of clothing will dissolve. This destroys the card.

The Pokermobile - An old rusty bicycle that Strip Poker stole from the city dump and glued some playing cards onto. During its time in the dump, it was exposed to toxic waste, because of course it was. None know the powers it may hold. It's probably just a health hazard though. Glows in the dark.

Weaknesses: Non-Combatant - Powers are strictly non combat oriented, and he's kind of out of shape.

Description: A short, stocky man in a trenchcoat, jeans, and a domino mask, which he never takes off. And a god-awful mullet. Usually has packs of playing cards “hidden” all over his body.

Personality: Chance is an idiot. He thinks he's a big-deal supervillain, but most superheroes just kind of see him as a pathetic annoyance. He can't fight, he can't run very fast, and the totality of his criminal record amounts to little more than petty theft. Despite this, he is egotistical and utterly confident in his superiority. Despite the stigma brought by his "interesting" powers, he's actually not a pervert. Has a bit of an alcohol problem, which tends to impair his judgment even further.

Background: Chance Kingsley worshipped the ground that supervillains walked on. So when he saw an illegal metahuman stimulant go up for sale on eBay, he didn't hesitate to spend his entire life savings. Initially disappointed at not seeming to manifest any powers, one day he sneezed during a game of poker, sending his cards flying and accidentally stripping his opponent. Since then, he has been a self-proclaimed supervillain, employing the dubious strategy of dissolving the pants of passerby and hoping it creates enough confusion for him to steal their wallet. Despite a surprisingly high success rate of 50%, he is constantly broke, as he spends all his money on playing cards to replace the ones destroyed by his powers. (He doesn't have very good aim).

Hiatus is over, I'm back.

Leo Wylde

Identity: Leonard Jones, Hero, public

Occupation: Rock Star

Powers & Abilities: His magic Gibson Double-Neck guitar can summon spirits from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with different effects manifesting depending on the song he sings. He can also use the same guitar as a surfboard, to fly on a wave of energy in the shape of a lion's head. This instrument, should it be separated from Leo, can be summoned with a command word and a snap of the fingers.

Description: A 32-year-old man with a long head of blonde hair styled like a lion's mane, typical rock star clothing, (mostly black pleather), and shutter shades. Distinctive tattoos on his arms and chest, most of them with a lion motif. Smokes like a chimney.

Personality: SKIDDILYWOOOOOOOW! Leo Wylde is pretty aptly named. He's spontaneous, boisterous, and may or may not need rehab... On the stage, at least. In his private life, he's pretty reserved, quiet, and contemplative. A devout christian, he goes to church every Sunday, doesn't fall for the many vices celebrities often do, and anonymously donates huge amounts of money to various charities. He also doesn't like violence, preferring to solve things peacefully and prevent crimes before they happen. However, he still retains a bit of the impulsiveness that plagued him as a young man, and he's not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Background: Leo was born to affluent, yet overprotective parents in one of the town's better neighborhoods. This lifestyle, while luxurious, was not for him. His boredom drove him to delinquency, which led to crime. He had made good money selling drugs in the bad neighborhoods of the town, but one fateful day, he went too far. He had put his dad in the hospital with critical injuries, and his years of dealing had come to light. His parents thought they could change him, but this was the last straw. They turned him in to the police, and he was sentenced to four years for drug distribution and assault. While he paid his debt to society, he had found a great friend by the name of Clifford Lancaster, the prison chaplain and counselor, who, over the course of Leo's 4 years, helped him come to peace with who he was, and what he should do in the future. Then there was Francis, a quiet inmate who would play rock and roll on the guitar during free time. Enamored by his talent, Leo begged him to teach the musical art. Francis agreed, but on one condition. Once they both got out, Leo had to give him a place to live until he could get on his feet. Leo agreed, and his talent made itself known fairly quickly. His sentence was served in full, with faith and the guitar keeping him distracted from the hardships of the detention facility. Once he was released, he was a changed man for sure. He no longer felt the impulsiveness that dominated his youth, or the recklessness that busted him in the first place. The first thing he thought to do was reconcile with his parents. Overjoyed to see his transformation, they welcomed him back with open arms, and upon hearing him play, his dad recognized Leo's talent. With mom and dad's support and a guitar his dad bought him, he began playing local venues, and he had managed his money well enough to move out of their house. Eventually, He caught the eyes and ears of a well-known talent scout, and ended up getting himself a lucrative contract. On the way to his first major concert, a life-changing event in itself, he encountered another such event. He spotted an old man, laying on the side of the road in a pool of blood. Despite having no knowledge of what to do in such a situation, Leo felt he still had to act. He tried to stanch the bleeding with napkins from a fast food bag, and when this seemed to work, he called an ambulance and waited for it to arrive. He was late to the concert, but that didn't matter to him. He had saved that man's life. The concert was still a massive success despite his tardiness, and it didn't come as a surprise that the old man called to thank him, but there was definitely a surprise. The old man was actually a powerful wizard, and, as a reward for saving his life, enchanted Leo's guitar with wondrous abilities. Since then, Leo's had a wildly successful career, in both music and crime fighting, with his most recent album, "Into the Wylde", reaching number one on the charts.

  • Name/Alias: Fyodor Orlov (Voron)

      • Raven's Guard: This defensive use of his powers sees a flock of ravens enveloping a target and protecting it from harm, the birds will try to stop attacks with their bodies and if attacked by melee will try to push the attacker pack by clawing at them
      • Raven's Help: By using this, ravens will grab a target with their claws and beaks, either to try and keep it in a certain place or to move it away, depending on Fyodor's intend.
    • Raven's Shadow: He can vanish in the shadows and appear from there.

As the ravens flew away a short time after that Fyodor noticed that something had changed... the ravens sat around him and... seemed to wait for his command - he soon enough started to notice his newfound powers. ION

  • Identity: Alex Selby, Hero, no secret identity.
  • Powers:
    • Electrokinesis: Alex has the ability to generate and control electricity from his own body's electrical potential. He can control the intensity to a certain degree, being able to lower the shocks to a taser level, or increase it enough to melt skin. Not that he's done that. Alex's electricity can also conduct with Kaylee's metal gears and clockwork constructs.
    • Electromagnetism: A sort of split-off from his primary power, Alex's electromagnetism is made manifest in short range yet powerful bursts of magnetic force, allowing him to repel metal devices and temporarily scramble electronics. Theoretically, he could use this power to Electric Slide, however his lack of experience with it means he has to stick with smaller uses.
  • Weakness: Water, obviously. That being said, Alex can survive a shower or light rain, but anything deeper than a shallow river can electrocute him. He also has an unexplained allergy to rubber on contact, causing him to have to use gloves when he has to handle it. Also note that prolonged usage of electricity generation will cause him to "burn out".
  • Equipment:
    • AMP Suit (Modified): A nine foot tall exosuit of Alex's design, with hydraulic based movement and reinforced armour of titanium plating. The suit can increase Alex's powers to the point of summoning a lightning bolt. However, overuse of the suit can drain and tire him. After Alex's modifications, the suit has an increased storage and passenger space, and can now fit up to four people with a squeeze.
    • Custom Cellphone: Alex's cellphone is both shock-proof and waterproof, taking the appearance of a heavy duty flip phone with a touchscreen. The phone has Kaylee on speed-dial.
  • Appearance: You Gotta Have Blue Hair. Appears slightly younger than his actual age of 19.
  • Personality: Outwardly nervous and shy, Alex is a rather sweet individual, genuinely caring and gentle towards others despite his low self-esteem and occasional anxiety attacks. However, his kindness can sometimes make him easy to manipulate, especially if one of his close friends are in danger. He is noticeably more confident in his suit, not hesitating to act like when he's out of it. He can easily get over-invested in his work, forgetting to eat or sleep while working on a project. Despite his anxiety, Alex has one person he can truly open up to and rely on, and that is his best friend Kaylee. To him, she is his rock, and he is even starting to develop romantic feelings for her. After his ACP project was finally realised, Alex has become a lot more confident and daresay even cheeky and witty, however despite his occasional acting like a smart Alec he has still kept his kindness and concern to people.
  • Background: Alex was born to a family with little money, his powers manifesting shortly after he was born, turning his previously blonde hair and brown eyes a bright blue. It was very quickly apparent he possessed a fantastic mind, somehow managing to construct a circuit board when he was only 9 years old. Constant verbal bullying at school, usually mocking his strange hair colour, caused him to retreat into a quiet shell. After he was of age, he went to college, where he met another like-minded individual named Kaylee. The two quickly became inseparable, her calming demeanour balancing out his nervous attitude. They eventually rented out a run-down shop in the streets of Easton after their graduation, which now serves as their workshop and home. However, their friendship has recently been slightly stunted by Alex's obsession over his ACP project, to which he has yet to realise.

Klokwerk

  • Identity: Katherine "Kaylee" Thomas, Hero, no secret identity.
  • Powers:
    • Clockwork Constructs/Gear Generation: Kaylee's power is... unique, to say the least. By accessing what Alex theorizes to be a personal pocket dimension, Kaylee can materialize toothed clockwork constructs, taking the form of gears or miscellaneous shapes. The larger constructs, such as mechanical hands or just miscellaneous shapes, usually sprout out of or through walls and floors, and the heavy mass plus the sharp teeth can cause major damage to those not quick to avoid it. The smaller clockwork gears can be quickly materialized and flung at high speeds in a manner similar to shuriken. These constructs can dissipate either by Kaylee's will, her being knocked out, or simply high amounts of force. As mentioned before, Alex's electrokinesis is compatible with this power, allowing them to attack in combination and create electrified gears and clockwork constructs.
  • Equipment:
    • Custom Cellphone: Kaylee owns one of Alex's custom cellphones, which has his number on speed dial. It too is both shock-proof and waterproof, but unfortunately not shatter-proof. By the amount of replacements he has had to make for her, it is surprising that he hasn't grown sick of the whole process.
  • Appearance: Like Alex, is 19 years of age. Honest.
  • Personality: Level-headed, intelligent and caring, Kaylee is everything Alex wants to be. She has a tendency to be a bit stubborn and overprotective of her friend, however, and is prone to rash actions if she feels he is in danger. She has a sarcastic streak, and has worked out the correct balance in how to tease Alex without directly insulting his self-esteem, much to his annoyance. She is also in charge of making sure Alex doesn't kill himself due to overworking, which seems to be going exceptionally well so far. After Ophelia's creation, Kaylee is starting to feel more distant to Alex due to his newfound obsession and passion for his ACP project, and is struggling to get him back to how he was.
  • Background: Kaylee was born in Easton to a single mechanic, her powers manifesting when she was about 8 years old. Like Alex, her father quickly noticed her high intelligence, and allowed her to work in his shop. After going to college when she was 17, she quickly formed a close friendship with the shy, blue-haired teen due to his aligning interests, and helped him with raising money to rent out a workshop. She now lives there with him, supporting him with his creations and teaming up with him in the field. Kaylee also had heavy involvement in Ophelia's creation, designing schematics and helping Alex with the subtle details, such as the idea of including protective ear-defenders.

Boom. Also a leitmotif for the pair of 'em.

As promised, a character sheet for the new and... improved? Pollutrix.

Pollutrix

  • Identity:
    • Name: Rebecca Raleigh & Lhdwnr/“Elly”
    • Alignment: Hero
    • Public Identity
  • Abilities
    • Rhypokinesis - Mental control over all forms of filth, including garbage, dirt, sewage, etc.
    • Stench - Emits an offensive odor. The intensity of this odor is under her control. At its weakest she smells like she hasn’t showered in about a week. Upper limit is untested.
    • Aura of Pollution - Normally, anything she touches with her bare skin is encrusted with filth or otherwise putrefied. With effort she can expand this effect so that it works through her clothes, and with even more effort she’s able to expand it to a radius around her, turning her into a localized Walking Wasteland.
    • Immunity - She is immune to disease and other ill effects from filth
  • Appearance: A rather attractive young woman with piercing green eyes and shoulder-length blond hair. Her costume consists of skintight green spandex with the biohazard symbol emblazoned on the chest, sleeveless, and accented with yellow boots and gloves. Elly, when she chooses to manifest, appears as a little girl clothed in a dress made of soiled rags who’s clearly never come into contact with soap.
  • Personality: Rebecca is generally rather pessimistic and sarcastic, but also friendly and willing to help those in need. She’s more than a little annoyed with the disgusting nature of her powers, and with the voice in her head that came with them, but she’s learned to accept them to some extent. Elly, on the other hand, is optimistic, cheerful, energetic, curious, and childlike, though rather out of touch with humanity and seemingly incapable of comprehending the concept of hygiene.
  • Background: A struggling artist fresh out of art school, Rebecca’s life took a turn for the bizarre one morning when she woke up with an annoyingly chipper voice in her head. This turned out to be the voice of a Goddess of Filth from a forgotten culture named Lhdwnr (and promptly nicknamed Elly because Rebecca couldn’t pronounce the first one) who had been in hibernation for millennia, only to wake up sealed in Rebecca’s body with no idea of how it happened. After a couple days of getting used to both the effects of the Goddess’s power and the concept of sharing her head with another, Rebecca made the decision to use her newfound abilities to help people, with which Elly wholeheartedly agreed.

Identity: Smoker (sorta villain); actual name Tobias Bane

Abilities: •Powers

-Hallucinogenic breath - He can breathe out a mutlicolored smoke, which, when inhaled, leads to hallucinations and causes susceptibility to suggestion in those it affects. This means that he can often bend people to his will fairly easily once they breathe in his smoke.

-Smoke movement - he can turn into smoke, allowing movement through narrow areas or vents. He can't maintain this form for too long, usually ten to fifteen seconds max with twenty seconds to recover in between. •Weaknesses

-Peaceful - He's no fighter. Then again, he usually doesn't need to be.

•Skills

- He knows a lot about medical stuff. He was once interested in it as a career, after all.

•Equipment

- He has a mask he wears, a black one. The mouth slot is thin but enough for him to breathe out of.

Appearance: He's tall and thin, all bones and some muscle. His face is all angles, with pronounced cheekbones and a sharp jawline. His bright blue eyes contrast with his black hair, which is curly. He appears vaguely mixed, though what he is is hard to tell. He usually wears hoodies and jeans with boots, even when he's bring secretive.

Personality: He's a fun-loving, chill dude who always goes with the flow. He's rarely surprised and is always calm. However, he does care deeply for his friends, especially his friend Ryan. He tends to be a bit dry-witted, using subtle digs instead of obvious jabs. He also rarely holds grudges, tending more towards forgive and forget. He can be overly trusting, especially towards friends. However, recently he, despite his personality, been engaging in self-destructive behaviors and crime, mainly abusing his powers to do so. He also has a tendency for mood swings.

Background: He was born March 15th to Jack and Judith Bane. He was raised fairly well, and Jack and Judith were good parents. When he was 16, he was looking through an antique shop with his parents when the owner came by and offered him a caramel candy. Not really thinking, he took it. It was only later that day when he began exhaling smoke, and in a panic told his parents. His parents went back to the store only to find out that whoever had given him the candy was not the actual store owner, simply a passerby who had lied. Eventually, he began to control his powers better, though he kept them secret, and eventually he moved in with his best friend, Ryan. Recently his mood swings have gotten worse and he's engaged in worse and worse behavior. One thing he's done was convince a man to break his own leg by jumping from a second story window simply because, earlier in the day, he had been bullying Ryan, his best friend. Soon enough he may be a full-fledged villain, even if he thinks he's right...

The Ginger Fairy

  • Identity: Fairy, supervillain, no dual identity.

  • Abilities:

    • Magic Food: The Ginger Fairy’s preferred method of magic is through enchanted food, usually drugged to make anyone who eats it more docile and suggestible.

    • Gingerbread soldiers: Golems made of gingerbread who do their mistress’ bidding.

    • House: The Ginger Fairy’s home is a beautifully made gingerbread house that shifts location every so often to escape notice. More than that, it’s a part of her. Crafted out of her own magic, the house is as much a part of her as her own body. As long as her house stands, she can recover from any attack or injury, even death.

  • Appearance: As a fairy, she can alter her appearance at will. The one she favors is a matronly woman wearing a 50s-style brown dress, with perfectly coiffed hair, a pearl necklace, high heels, and a perpetual smile. She never loses the smile.

  • Personality: The Ginger Fairy is very reminiscent of a 1950s housewife in appearance and behavior. Endlessly sweet and an expert in domestic work of any kind, her house is a haven for anyone who is lost or just needs a nice filling meal.

...or that’s what she would have you believe. The Ginger Fairy has crafted her persona specifically to lure in the vulnerable and the lost, all the better to make a meal out of them. The Ginger Fairy loves the taste of human flesh, but more than that, she loves the thrill of the hunt, of being able to lure in the unsuspecting and bring them under her thrall and fatten them up - and then, the meal.

  • Background: The Ginger Fairy was once a close friend of Queen Mab, but after news of her cannibalistic tendencies came to light, she was banished to the human realm. In truth, the Ginger Fairy doesn’t mind; humans are so much fun to toy with, and they taste so delicious braised.

I’m fine with that. I just figured I may as well submit a villain if you needed one.

Did somebody say 'we need more villains'?!

Apex

  • Identity: Charles Lavere, Villain, Secret Identity
  • Abilities:
    • Self-Biokinesis: Apex's power is total control over his own biology. He can change his physical characteristics at will, even shapeshifting himself into other people, regenerate his body (so long as he has organic material to work with, anyway) and push himself beyond human limits. Due to all the spare biomass he's naturally several times denser than a human being, but due to his acute muscle control is still able to do stuff like sit in chairs without them breaking.
    • Upgrades: Apex in his villain identity is clad in 'armor' that's actually just a chitinous exoskeleton of his own creation. All of his clothes are likewise actually part of his own biology. He possesses superhuman senses, strength, agility, and durability, and has functionally limitless stamina due to being able to repair his own muscles at will.
    • Skills: Due to having fought a lot of heroes, Apex is a skilled combantant and good at thinking on his feet. He's also a fairly smooth talker and mediates black-market deals in his free time.
  • Appearance: Tall, tan, shaggy blonde hair, with the body of a greek god. That's what Charles usually looks like, at any rate, though it's subject to change. As Apex, his armor is organic, dark, and faceless. Gotta get that supervillain aesthetic, ya dig?
  • Personality: Laid back, to a psychotic degree. Being shot at doesn't even bother him, and he'll talk your ear off while you're trying (and probably failing) to capture him. Even in costume he's easygoing and carefree. He generally refrains from killing, though he's rumored to have assassinated other supervillains. He'll avoid harming children or elderly at all, unless he has no other options, and also doesn't like taking hostages.
  • Background: A college dropout, estranged from his parents, who spent his days surfing and living the high life, until his landlord threatened to evict him. Realizing that the high life costs money stressed him out, which may have been the trigger for his powers appearing at the ripe young age of 20. Now, while most people might decide to be a superhero, Charlie realized he had... potential. Deciding 'hey, liquor and jewelery store owners don't really need that much money (and besides, they probably have insurance anyway)' Charlie went on a good old-fashioned robbing spree, using his shapeshifting powers to evade capture. Then he went for broke and robbed a bank. As he gained notoriety, he started getting shady offers from the criminal underground, and just sort of went with the flow. Even nowadays when Apex is well known, he makes it a point to never let anyone know his real name. Doesn't stop corrupt politicians from inviting him to parties, though.

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

You wanted a villain, here’s a villain.

Jackpot

  • Identity:
    • Real Name: Robert “Dice” Roland
    • Alignment: Villain
    • Secret Identity
  • Abilities:
    • Probability Manipulation - Can influence the likelihood of events within a fifty yard radius around him. Simply put, the odds are always in his favor, whether it’s a tiny chance of an equipment malfunction or the chances of his throwing disk rebounding at exactly the right angle to catch his opponent off guard.
    • Throwing Disk - Possesses a razor sharp throwing disk, about a foot in diameter, patterned after a roulette wheel. Combined with his probability manipulation, it makes for a very effective weapon.
  • Appearance: Wears a rather guady costume with the front patterned after a craps table, the legs resembling stacks of poker chips, shoulder pads patterned after slot machines, and a mask seemingly made of playing cards and dice over the top half of his face.
  • Personality: Roland is a thrill seeker, through and through, and will often intentionally put himself in danger simply to “raise the stakes”. He enjoys taunting his opponents, and generally operates with the kind of smug superiority that can only exist in someone who’s spent their life winning. Oddly fixated on games of chance.
  • Background: They say some people are just born lucky, and if that’s the case, “Dice” Roland was certainly one of those people. A casino high roller who was rumored to have never lost a game of chance, Roland was certainly profiting off of this luck. But there was a problem. He was too lucky. There was no challenge, no sport in anything. A desire for thrill led Roland to take greater and greater risks. Russian Roulette? Easy. Death defying stunts? What else was new. There was no challenge in anything. But during one particularly high stakes game, Roland came to a discovery. He wasn’t lucky, he could control probability! With this new discovery, Roland decided to engage in his most high stakes activity yet; supervillainy.

Identity: Conan Warren, Anti-Hero, Eldritch

Abilities: Eldritch possesses an ancient tome of arcane knowledge, which he forged from the skin of an otherworldly god. With it, he is able to cast spells once known only to alien gods, summon beasts from the foulest depths to be his familiars, and project his astral and incorporeal self to the furthest reaches of space and time. He also wears a jacket made of the dried remains of some eldritch horror, which grants him protection from the spells of his opponents, again, made by himself. Both the tome and the jacket have the essences of the vanquished deities, which Eldtrich has enslaved to his will, allowing him to use them for whatever purpose he sees fit. However, despite this vast array of equipment, Conan is vastly unprepared for hand-to-hand combat, and though he has a vast amount of knowledge about the contents of his tome, he fears what would happen if he were to use its full power. His greatest weapon, of course, is his remarkably sharp wit and cunning, as well as his vast store of knowledge he has locked away and sorted in his mind. Literally, locked away and stored, with the keys belonging only to himself.

Appearance: Pretty much this guy.

Personality: Conan is an odd fellow. He likes to study while sitting on the ceiling, doesn't wear shoes, only socks, as he levitates through the air, often seems to be a very busy man with many things to do, all of which he is currently doing, and has been noted to have a near brilliant wit and sharp tongue. He is fond of video games and anime, loves eating pringles and drinking lemonade, and will often be seen browsing the web for various new pieces of information about the world at large, to track down any cults.

Background: Once a normal boy, Conan's life was turned upside when an Eldtrich beast burned down his hometown, and he was taken in by a magic user who became his mentor in the mystic arts. That is, until he discovered he was a cult leader, who was secretly indoctrinating him in preparation for his sacrifice to the Mad Horror, G'il Mag, and summon him to the mortal plane. Some men just aren't good drinkers, really. To continue, of course, Conan decided to take action. He first began researching summoning rituals, and proceeded to use this new found knowledge to his advantage, tricking his old master into being a sacrifice to G'il Mag while sacrificing another cultist to Kiuden, King in Orange. As the two horrors battled to see who would take control of Earth, Conan then eradicated the cult, and proceeded with the third and final phase of his plan. He used the energy of the battle between the two to convert it into power, combining it with the souls of the entire cult, and then boosted it by using Celtic fairy magic. With this weapon created, Conan fired it at both as they reached the end of their battle, exhausted, obliterating them as their crawled onto Earth at last. With that done, he fashioned his tome and jacket from their remains, stored as much knowledge as he could within the tome, and set about to become mankind's protector against the creatures of the dark and the void. He accomplished this all at the age of only 19 even. Impressive, eh?

Identity: Kyle Moon, hero, secret identity, known as Crescent

  • Abilities:

    • Lycan form: He has the skill of turning into a giant humanoid wolf or an intermediate, "big hairy human" form. Both these forms come with a nice set of bonuses.
      • Super strength: He has been able to stop a moving truck with one hand, tear through steel with ease and smash through stone, among other things.
      • Super speed and reflexes: runs close to the speed of sound and can move and dodge high speed projectiles mid-sprint with little issue.
      • Durability: Can take bullets and blunt trauma without issue.
      • Enhanced senses: What you'd expect, really.
      • Healing Factor: While on his normal form it makes cuts disappear in a couple hours, and it's even stronger transformed, unless the wound was made with silver, in that case, it heals like a regular injury.
      • Sharp claws and fangs: self explanatory.

  • Skills: Knows karate, has survival skills and can track pretty well.

  • Weaknesses: Silver, if it touches his naked skin, it burns him, even in his normal form, and affects his healing. The full wolf transformation can have some effects on his mind, making him more primal, and it gets worse during the full moon. The intermediate form only gives him half his full power. And his senses have overwhelmed him on occasion.

  • Appearance: A rather handsome Caucasian young man, he has long, messy black hair and blue eyes. He tends to wear hoodies and jeans and tends to look like he just woke up. He is about 5'10 and rather toned. On his back, there is a black wolf tattoo, the symbol of his power. On his first transformation, he grows about half a foot and looks like a bodybuilder, his hair gets longer and gets some wild stubble and body hair and his face looks older and somewhat meaner. When going "Full Wolf" he transforms into a 7 feet tall humanoid wolf. To keep his dignity he wears a black bodysuit with a moon on the chest, with several metal plates.

  • Personality: While awkward on social situations, Kyle is usually a polite, laid back and good natured guy who likes a quick laugh and is generally willing to help others. Normally acts pretty relaxed and not even risk of death gives him much pause, but he is concerned about his powers and the effect they have on him and his personality. but tries to hide it. Smarter than he looks, has a lot of fun messing with people with it. Whenever he goes full wolf he feels more aggressive, primal, and on full moon he has a hard time being a wolf and controlling his base urges.

  • Background: Kyle Moon, college student who planned to study Criminal Justice felt like his life was just normal, loving his parents and his older brother, hanging out with friends and doing well on school were his simple goals, but as a good-hearted kid, and one of his attempts to help ended up changing his life forever. Coming back home from a high school party, he saw a house getting robbed. Kyle managed to knock down one of the robbers before the police or a hero arrived, but ended up breaking a talisman that was among the things, causing a wolf spirit to enter his body and forced him to transform for the first time. While scared at first, he resolved to step into the plate, evil shall now beware a hunter of the dark, the hero Crescent.

  • Identity: Presto Digitation, with secret identity Preston Robinson
    • Wants to be seen as a hero, but his powerset tends to make people think of him as more of a rogue.
  • Powers:
    • Now You Don't: Presto has the ability to quickly disappear for short amounts of time and reappear a short distance away, without being seen, in a form that seems like teleportation to onlookers.
    • Hat Trick: Presto has a small portable universe located in his hat where he can store a good amount of items, as long as they can actually fit in his hat in the first place.
    • Sleight of Hand: Presto is exceptionally good at distracting people and switching important items with replicas or fakes. Whether this is actually a superpower or just a unique skill is still up for debate.
    • Levitation: Presto can constantly float a good distance in the air and move around vertically as well as horizontally, but he can't exactly fly.
    • Escape Artist: Presto can escape almost every trap or set of bonds he is placed in, so long as they aren't meant for powered individuals, and he can usually help other heroes escape bonds relatively easily as well, although not as easily as he can free himself.
    • Etc.: Needless to say, as a whole, most of Presto's skills are suited for distracting and disorienting enemies and obtaining items that don't belong to him without being easily caught.

  • Weaknesses: Presto isn't very combat-oriented, and usually relies more on agility and misdirection to win fights. He is also young and naive, so he can be swayed and manipulated by other heroes and villains pretty easily.
  • Appearance: Presto is a caucasian, 16-year old boy weighing 160 lbs and 5' 10'' tall. He has a lanky figure with a face that still has a bit of baby fat on it, making him look younger than he actually is. He has short brown hair in a simple style, brown eyes under square glasses, and usually has a big smile on his face, accentuated by his dimples.
  • Costume: He wears a typical magician outfit of a white button-up shirt under a cheap black suit, with a red cummerbund, and matching red bow tie, a flowing cape (black on the outside, red on the inside), and a black top hat. He also carries some magic props with him most of the time, like a cheap plastic wand , a deck of cards, and a set of hankies.
  • Personality: Presto is the type of person who believes that everybody is inherently good and tends to see the glass as half-full, if not more than half-full. As a result of his idealism, presto is also pretty naive and gullible and will usually trust what the people around him say. He also believes in almost every mythological or supernatural creature and lore. If this is a universe with superheroes, spirits, and fairies running around, who says Bigfoot and Nessie aren't real as well.

Additionally, contrary to his powerset, Presto has a great appreciation for following rules and listening to authority, and hates disappointing his superiors. He sometimes feels guilty if his mission involves stealing something or lying, but if an institution tells him to do it, he'll be fine with the mission.
  • Background: Presto grew up in a normal, loving family, that wasn't any more dysfunctional than your typical family, and had a small, but close group of friends at school that usually rotated pretty quickly. As a result of his obsession with all things mythological, supernatural, and occult, Presto spent a fair bit of time exploring small shops dealing in magic and witchcraft. One day, Presto spotted a new store that had opened up in a vacant lot that had been abandoned for over 20 years, a lot which had once housed a famous theater that hosted famous magicians from all over the world. Presto walked in and was amazed by all the different oddities and curios all around him and was immediately drawn to a big book at the top of a bookshelf titled merely "The Book of Magic" and was about to spend his monthly allowance on the book, when the owner gave it away to him for free. The next day, Presto tried to go back, but the shop was gone.

Later that week, Presto opened the book to read everything that was inside and suddenly had wild visions of all sorts of symbols and words before immediately passing out. When he awoke, he suddenly had magical powers, although these were more the tricks of a stage magician than a sorcerer, which is what he would have preferred. Presto then opened the book, only to reveal a perfectly normal Magician's Guide, although a good amount of pages near the end seemed to be ripped out. Happy with his new powers, Presto started looking around for ways to practice and demonstrate his powers while helping others.
