Tokyosaurus's first impressions:

Set in the 2020's where self-driving electric cars are ubiquitous and gasoline-powered cars are an endangered species limited only to motorsports, the story focuses on 19-year-old Kanata Livington—a genius driver who goes back to Japan after graduating at the top of the class at a racing school in England, and Aiba Jun—an MFG racer aiming to be the best.

First impressions:

  • As soon as I saw that page with the Nissan R35 GT-R drawn in loving detail, I knew I would be looking forward to it.
  • Based on other info that I could find, MFG is basically legalized street racing (probably with some safety precautions in place to avoid accidents).
  • And there's some hints that this might be a Stealth Sequel to Initial D:
    • The car tuning garage Kanata Livington goes to looks like the one used by Project D.
    • The car Kanata finds at the warehouse is a Toyota GT86—Spiritual Successor to the AE86 that cameo'd at the last episode of Initial D: Final Stage.
    • The chief organizer of MFG goes by the name Ryo Takahashi. He is described as a mysterious person who doesn't appear on stage, and is a genius. (That sounds a lot like Ryosuke, doesn't it?)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to see how it goes...and whether there are scanlations being made at this moment.

EDIT: Managed to find some rough English scanlations of MF Ghost Chapter 1, and made some corrections. Also, there's raw scans of chapter 2 and...

Huh, another one-year gap (give or take one day) between posts...

So I was just reading Chapter 40 after seeing Kanata's Toyota GT86 somehow get ahead of an Alfa Romeo 4C and a Lotus Exige S V6 (as well as navigate the Hakone fog reminiscent of what happened during Keisuke and Ryuji Ikeda's battle in Initial D: Fifth Stage) and way after reading some major reveals that drop the "stealth" out of Stealth Sequel...

Keisuke Takahashi and Kenta Nakamura are back! (Keisuke started a company with Kenta as his right-hand man. And LOL, Kenta really let himself go...) Also, I love the implication that Keisuke's the demo racer who set new record lap times in demo races for the MFG. And those record lap times remained unbeaten for three years until Beckenbauer won the previous year's MFG tournament—and even then, Beckenbauer only beat just one of Keisuke's previous records.

Still no sign of an MFG racer driving a Jaguar F-Type, sadly.

Toyota makes a concept GT86 based on Kanata Livington's ride after previously making a panda GT86 with the Fujiwara Tofu Shop livery.

Would be nice if they displayed the Initial D GT86 (or the original panda AE86, sure) and the MF Ghost GT86 side by side at the next Tokyo Auto Salon.

Anyway, as for the latest chapters... So the racing circuit for the next leg of MFG is around Lake Ashi, eh? Also, Kanata's GT86 just had its suspension and brakes upgraded by Team Spiral's Hiroya Okuyama (a.k.a.: the Fifth Stage Nissan Silvia S15 dude who gets smoked by Takumi in the span of 90 seconds). And finally, Kanata just found himself with an Unknown Rival from his past—Koki Sawatori.
