It's for a fantasy-drama story set in 21st century America

The Williams family is a poor family who lives in Houston, Texas comprised only of the mother Kathleen and 12 year old Mitchell Williams. They live in a substandard suburban house whose walls are grey, water's filthy and it is always smell bad. Kathleen always battles bills and taxes due to her low pay of her job.

Kathleen and Mitchell Williams often fear the next meal, if they have due to their poverty. Their fridge is old, and there is not enough food inside for the next day.

Until one day.

When Kathleen, strapped for cash, enters a mysterious shop in order to find food and plates to replace the only one broken by Mitchell. She finds several Tupperware containers that can be brought for bulk for a quarter and buys it to survive,

After Mitchell arrives home for dinner after school, Kathleen takes two Tupperware containers and places on their rickety dinner table so that they could pretend eating something because they ran out of food and Kathleen's next payday comes the next two weeks.

Much to Kathleen and Mitchell's surprise, they find out the Tupperware container made spaghetti for them despite Kathleen buying several empty containers. It turns out all of the Tupperware containers that Kathleen purchased from the mysterious shop is capable to generating food out of nothing.

What would the reaction be if Kathleen and Mitchell react to the food-generating Tupperware containers?

That would depend on the personalities of Kathleen and Mitchell. I would guess that most people might be really glad they found a way to avert starving to death. Some might wonder just how long the food-generating container will keep generating food.

Also, you might also want to consider if this is the first time they've experienced something as fantastical as this. If it is, it's going to change the way they view the world, since now they know that magic does exist in the world.

Okay, in the drafts for my fantasy drama, Kathleen and Mitchell are just good and normal people, if desperate and hungry.

After they take breakfast using the food-generating Tupperware, Kathleen decided on rules for usage of the magical Tupperware containers.

  1. They must keep the Tupperware containers a secret.
  2. They cannot be gluttonous on the food that the containers generate.

What other rules Kathleen can give rule on it?

I imagine #2 would have to come after gorging themselves.

I think another rule Kathleen might make is, #3 Don't press your luck with the Tupperware. As in, don't ask it to make lavish meals, don't use it when not necessary, don't try and profit from the Tupperware, don't do anything to make the universe decide you don't deserve it.

What I'm curious about is, what would they do if they encountered another personor people desparate for food? Would they try and share their gift while keeping it a secret.

In the story outline, they mostly follow those rules until Mitchell, who is 12 years old decides breaking rule 1 by secretly showing her friend, Michalski who is diabetic and causing him an insulin shock and trying to impress others in the school cafeteria.

And oh, they once give Pet the Dog moment to a hobo on the streets using a small Tupperware to conjure up beans for him.

What would happen after Michalski suffers a insulin shock due to overeating the Tupperware-conjured food and his reaction when he is awakened on the hospital bed, trying to explain everything?

I'm not familiar with the symptoms, but I can't imagine anyone would believe him. Might cause him some problems if he keeps insisting afterwards or they believe it's a symptom of some mental illness.
